EA goes faster and furiouser with Need For Speed Payback’s Gameplay Trailer at E3 2017

You’re forgiven if you thought Need For Speed Payback‘s “Reveal Trailer” was actually a sneak peek at a Fast and the Furious knockoff, but EA is doubling down on the similarity between the two with a new Gameplay Trailer at this year’s E3 Expo.

The Gameplay Trailer shows Payback’s crew on a mission to acquire a new car from inside an 18-wheeler. How do they do it? Well, it involves a lot of fast driving and a leap of faith between two moving vehicles…

The crew (Tyler, Jess and Mac) have learned that The House is transporting a car equipped with a new piece of technology that may be a key component in bringing them down. This calls for one thing: acquire the car, get hold of the tech, and dent The House’s plans. “The Highway Heist” is one of the set piece moments that takes place within Need For Speed Payback’s single-player campaign which follows the story of Tyler, Jess, and Mac as they set out to bring down The House.

Need For Speed Payback will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 10.

Go from The Streets to The League in NBA Live 18’s Career Mode

EA Sports is ready for the NBA Live franchise to deliver another full court press, as the publisher used their EA Play event to unveil NBA Live 18 ahead of this year’s E3 Expo.

The centerpiece of NBA Live 18 is a retooled Career Mode known as “The One,” which lets players fight for playing time and prestige in pickup games and the NBA:

Instantly play in real-time, uniquely crafted Live Events offering new challenges and rewards all year long within Solo, Co-op, and Multiplayer.

This brief introduction is just the beginning, EA Sports will bring “The One” to fans this August with a special NBA Live 18 demo that’ll be available to download through the PlayStation Store and Xbox Games Store. EA Sports introduces “Longshot” Story Mode to Madden NFL 18

After its successful debut last year in FIFA 17, EA Sports is expanding their sports-based storytelling to include Madden NFL 18. Taking most of its cues from Friday Night Lights, as well as a dash of Any Given Sunday and The Program, the “Longshot” Story Mode was revealed during their E3-adjacent EA Play event today.

“Longshot” will follow the story of Devin “Longshot” Wade, a star quarterback who stepped away from the football field for a few years after high school. Portrayed by JR Lemon, Wade wants one last shot at NFL glory. The cast also includes Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as his father, along with Scott Porter as his best friend, and Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino as himself (insert your own Ace Ventura: Pet Detective joke here).

The first trailer for “Longshot” has been embedded above, and a quick overview of the new mode can be found at the game’s official website.

Madden NFL 18 will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One on August 25.

EA teases BioWare’s Anthem; Gameplay reveal coming tomorrow during the Xbox E3 Briefing

Electronic Arts unveiled BioWare’s next project, Anthem, during their EA Play event today. The short trailer is actually a teaser for tomorrow’s full gameplay reveal, which will make its debut during Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference. As of now, the Xbox One is the only confirmed platform for Anthem, but it’s most likely coming to the PC and PS4 as well.

In addition to the strange new world, massive alien creatures, and mech suits seen in the teaser, EA and BioWare hinted at the game’s exploratory nature with a short description:

In Anthem, a new game from EA’s BioWare studio, explore a landscape of primeval beauty, confront the dangers you find, and grow in power with every step.

A slightly different version of this description can be found on Anthem’s official website:

Explore a place you’ve never seen in a time you’ve never known, in Anthem, a new game from EA’s BioWare studio.

Anthem is currently scheduled to launch in Fall 2018.

EA and Hazelight will release A Way Out in Early 2018

Electronic Arts first announced their partnership with Hazelight just before Christmas… of 2014. Since then, we haven’t heard anything about the new project from Josef Fares, the creator of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. That all changed today as EA unveiled A Way Out during their E3 Press Conference.

A Way Out is a co-op game where players will attempt to help Leo and Vincent escape from prison. The pair will face many harrowing situations during their breakout including “car chases, stealth passages, melee fights, shootouts and many more”:

The story of A Way Out begins in prison with two separate inmates, Leo and Vincent, who don’t know each other. While their individual stories progress, players will have to build a relationship based on trust as they break both men out of prison into the world beyond. This co-op only experience is meant to be played together with a friend on a couch or online.

“Josef and his team at Hazelight represent everything that EA Originals stands for,” said Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President of EA Worldwide Studios. “They are a small and very talented group with a vision and passion for a game that is truly unique in the video game industry. A Way Out is going to surprise people with its innovative co-op gameplay and the way it tells an emotional story solely through these two characters.”

“This game is going to bring a co-op experience unlike anything you have ever seen before,” said Josef Fares, Writer and Director at Hazelight. “The idea for A Way Out came when me and a friend tried to find a story driven co-op game that wasn’t a drop-in/drop-out experience. We simply could not find a game like that. We’re also bringing an innovative look into how to tell the story of both these characters. Players will be immersed in the game with the way we change the display from a full screen experience seamlessly to different cinematic split-screen formats. By focusing on the two characters in different ways, it opens up a huge variety of gameplay, as we really wanted to avoid repetitions so they will get to know the characters through very different situations.”

A Way Out is currently in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and the first trailer has been embedded above.

Sink your teeth into Vampyr’s E3 2017 trailer

The dark alleyways and rat-infested streets of Dontnod’s Vampyr are the furthest things from the more modern confines of their previous game, Life Is Strange. But the French development studio has put just as effort into recreating Victorian London as they did with the fictional Blackwell Academy.

For further proof, check out the epic new Cinematic Trailer the developer released in honor of next week’s E3 Expo.

DontNod Entertainment’s upcoming action-RPG Vampyr today unveils its E3 trailer and draws you deep into the heart of a flu-stricken 1918 London. Set out on three minutes of uncut footage through the city’s dark alleys, deadly underground passages, and corrupt neighborhoods. Get a first glimpse at The Ascalon Club, a society formed from the richest vampires, unbeknownst to the mortals.

Dontnod also confirmed that the action RPG will be released in November 2017 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Project CARS 2 races into E3 2017 with a new trailer and onto store shelves on September 22

Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios have announced that Project CARS 2 will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on September 22. The two companies have also released a brand new (and very shiny) E3 2017 trailer for the game. It’s been embedded above.

Slightly Mad is adding a number of new features to the racing simulation sequel, and they’re on full display in the E3 2017 trailer:

Multi-Class Action
Passion for motorsport is embodied in the fan-requested multi-class racing that enables drivers to compete in any car and track in a field of multiple car classes which replicates the world’s most famous endurance racing championships, past and present. Whether it’s iconic cars from the golden age of sports cars, modern prototypes, or GT3, all classes of cars can now race together in either single or championship mode as Project CARS 2 scores the driver’s position not just overall, but in-class too.

Capturing all the thrills of motorsport means drivers are able to competing in any car, anytime, anywhere, off- and-online, against both in-class competitors and other classes too.

Feel the adrenaline rush as you close-in fast on a GT race car in the coldness of night at Le Mans in your Le Mans Prototype; scan your mirrors on a wet day at the Nurburgring as a Porsche 911 GT3 R monster bursts from the fog and cuts past your Renault Clio as if you were standing still. This is motorsport in Project CARS 2.

Career Mode Showcased in E3 Sizzle Trailer
Showcasing the accessibility of the Project CARS franchise, the game’s “sandbox” approach to its career mode gives drivers an open path to achieving their motorsport dreams. Drivers can begin their motorsport career in grassroots series such as karts and race their way to the very top echelons where many of the world’s most prestigious brands and cars await; they can choose to begin in any motorsport discipline; or even go straight into one particular type of motorsport, and spend one or multiple seasons in that championship. With nine motorsport disciplines to choose from, a racing career has never been more rewarding or challenging.

Optimized Handling
Project CARS 2 delivers an unparalleled racing experience for players of all skill levels and driving desires. Players can hop in and drive any car, on any track, at any time. Bleeding-edge visuals, precise car physics, revamped confidence-inspiring gamepad controls combined with advanced and newly refined tire grip and slip physics provide drivers with optimized control and feel in all situations. Recalibrated and highly realistic A.I. make Project CARS 2 the most immersive and technically-advanced racing simulation on the planet.

Players who decide to pre-order Project CARS 2 will be upgraded to the Day One Edition, which include four bonus cars (2016 Honda Civic Type R (Euro Spec), 2015 Honda 284 Concept, 1981 Nissan 280ZX IMSA GTX, and 1990 Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 Group A) as part of the Japanese Cars Pack.

Sega and Atlus announced their E3 2017 lineup

Sega originally acquired Atlus in 2013, but the two companies continued to operate separately in the years that followed. But they’ve been growing closer in 2017, and this year’s E3 Expo marks the first time that Sega and Atlus are presenting a joint booth to the industry.

As you might expect, the Sega half of the booth will be anchored by Sonic the Hedgehog… more specifically, this Summer’s Sonic Mania and this Fall’s Sonic Forces. Both games will share space with two upcoming Yakuza games (Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and Yakuza Kiwami), as well as Total War: Warhammer II and a bevy of Atlus-branded RPGs.

“We’re really pleased to see Yakuza and Sonic back on the biggest stage for video games, and having the first public hands-on for Total War: Warhammer II underlines a really strong showing from Sega and Atlus this year,” said John Clark, the Senior Vice President for Sega Europe. “We look forward to welcoming trade visitors but we’re especially looking forward to having the public come and see our line-up this year, it’s great for E3 and it’s great for publishers. We’re confident there’s something for everyone on the Sega stands this year.”

The 2017 E3 Expo opens its doors this Tuesday, June 13, and you can find Atlus and Sega’s full lineup after the break. (more…)
