Super Smash Bros. Ultimate includes EVERY character from EVERY Smash Bros. game ever (plus Daisy, Inklings, and Ridley)

Nintendo introduced the world to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this morning, and they definitely made a huge first impression.

Staring directly into the camera, Director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that every character from every previous iteration of the series would appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. That means Mario, Link, the Ice Climbers, Solid Snake, Little Mac, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Sonic… 65 characters in all. That includes the previously-announced Inklings (which will be available in eight different costumes), as well as Daisy (an “Echo Fighter” for Peach), and Metroid’s Ridley.

Yes, Ridley is going to be in the next Smash Bros. game.

It’s possible that Nintendo may add more characters to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s roster as we get closer to launch, but watching the E3 reveal of the current roster is 25 minutes well spent.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also include a variety of controller options, including GameCube controllers, Joy-Con controllers, and the Switch Pro Controller. All Amiibo figures from the Super Smash Bros. Series will be compatible with the game, as will any other Amiibo figure of a featured fighter (such as the Splatoon Series of figures).

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on December 7. And you can find a list of every character set to be included in the game after the break. (more…)

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be available in an “Edition of Lost Time” on PS4

Square Enix is pulling out all the stops for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age‘s North American debut this Fall.

Fans who pre-order Dragon Quest XI for the PS4, or purchase it during its initial print run, will be upgraded to the special “Edition of Light,” which includes a reversible cover and instant access to three in-game items (Supplicant, an accessory with the power to restore Magic Points; Healer, an accessory with the power to restore Hit Points; and three Seeds of Skill, a consumable item which confers extra Skill Points on a player).

For players who prefer a digital download, the reversible cover will be swapped out for a “The Legend Reborn” Theme on the PlayStation Store and an exclusive PC Wallpaper Set on Steam.

Meet the characters from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age in its E3 Trailer

It’s been nearly a decade since Nintendo and Square Enix helped bring Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies across the Pacific, but the beloved RPG franchise will make a splashy return this Fall with the launch of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age for the PC and PS4.

Yesterday, we got a new look at Dragon Quest XI during Square Enix’s E3 Showcase. This trailer, dubbed “The Legend of the Luminary,” aims to introduce fans to the game’s new characters:

Watch the Dragon Quest XI E3 2018 trailer to learn of the fate that awaits the Luminary and his loyal companions. Dragon Quest XI tells a captivating tale of a hunted hero and is the long-awaited role-playing game from series creator Yuji Horii, character designer Akira Toriyama, and composer Koichi Sugiyama.

While it is the eleventh mainline entry in the critically acclaimed series, Dragon Quest XI is a completely standalone experience that features entirely new characters, a beautifully detailed world, finely tuned turn-based combat, and an immersive story that will appeal to long-time fans and franchise newcomers alike.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is looking like an absolutely epic adventure, and it’ll be available for the PC and PS4 on September 4.

Square Enix and Platinum Games will bring Babylon’s Fall to PC and PS4 in 2019

Led by the Nomads, Humanity strikes back against Gaia.

There’s a lot to unpack in the E3 Trailer for Babylon’s Fall, the latest collaboration between Square Enix and Platinum Games.

The game’s world looks to be dense with lore, and viewers are hurtled through hundreds of years of human history in a few brief flashes. After the discovery of the “Oversoul,” a new kind of energy, the citizenry began to worship a goddess known as Gaia. But the goddess was displeased, and she delivered an apocalyptic punishment to the world.

Here is where the game begins, as players take control of the Nomads, beings with some kind of magical ability, to exact a vengeance on Gaia. It looks like Platinum Games owes quite a debt to Dark Souls, but the trailer doesn’t give us any idea what type of game Babylon’s Fall actually is.

I guess we’ll all find out together when Babylon’s Fall is released for the PC and PS4 in 2019.

Resident Evil 2 remake will arrive on PC, PS4, Xbox One on January 25, 2019

Capcom’s ground-up remake of Resident Evil 2 made a huge splash at Sony’s E3 Showcase yesterday.

This new version of the horror classic will flip the static perspective of the original game to an over-the-shoulder viewpoint familiar to fans of Resident Evil 4, but it’ll retain the separate storylines for rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield.

The Capcom-Unity blog has a nice overview of other changes fans should expect from the remake, including “a visceral sense of wetness and gore.” That’s gross, Capcom…

A complete remake of the original from 1998, Resident Evil 2 revisits the nightmare of Raccoon City with modern gameplay mechanics, new and unprecedented visuals, and a photorealistic style powered by the RE Engine that was behind the stunning graphics of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Keeping in line with the survival horror that defines Resident Evil 2, grotesque hordes of the undead are brought to life with a visceral sense of wetness and gore, reacting to attacks in real time with visible damage from every bullet and shotgun shell. True to the series’ roots, you’ll need to make every one of those shots count if you want to survive, with a new over-the-shoulder camera bringing you even closer to the shambling undead standing between you and your escape.

Rather than release a single trailer to promote the Resident Evil 2 remake, the publisher debuted a second trailer on their blog after the end of Sony’s E3 Showcase. You can find both trailers after the break.

And we won’t have to wait long to get our hands on it. The Resident Evil 2 remake will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on January 25, 2019. (more…)

Bethesda teases The Elder Scrolls VI with first trailer at E3 2018

All the way back in 2015, Bethesda’s Todd Howard told the world that it would be a “very long time” before the publisher was ready to announce The Elder Scrolls VI. Well, I guess we’ve waited a “very long time,” because Bethesda unveiled the first Teaser Trailer for the game during their E3 Showcase yesterday.

However, I think it might be another “very long time” before we get to play The Elder Scrolls VI, because the RPG just entered pre-production, and it doesn’t even have a subtitle yet.

Kingdom Hearts III’s E3 Trailer introduces Elsa and Frozen to the franchise

For everyone grumbling about Square Enix’s decision to delay Kingdom Hearts III into 2019, this E3 Trailer’s for you…

Let it go (go, go, go go, go go, go go, go, go, go go)
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go

Featuring the world of Disney’s Frozen for the first time in the franchise, fans can catch a glimpse of Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and a lot of snowy locales. The trailer also includes new footage from the Toy Story, Hercules, and Tangled areas of the game.

“I have been so impressed working with the Kingdom Hearts team. Their artistic commitment and attention to detail creating the world of our films is truly extraordinary. It’s been a great partnership,” said Roy Conli, a producer with Walt Disney Animation Studios.

“With the release set for next January, I apologize for having to ask for a little more time than what was previously announced” said Tetsuya Nomura, the Director of Kingdom Hearts III. “The entire development team is pouring their love for the franchise into Kingdom Hearts III and is striving to create a game that all players will enjoy. We are currently at the last stages of development but will work tirelessly until the end to deliver the very best Kingdom Hearts game to date.”

Kingdom Hearts III will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One on January 29, 2019.
