Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair will invade Steam on July 18
D3 Publisher has announced that Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair, their bonkers “bugs versus humans” shooter, will be released for the PC through Steam on July 18.
Earth Defense Force 4.1 is an expanded and enhanced remake of Earth Defense Force 2025, which was originally released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2014. The re-release debuted on the PS4 last December, and now it’ll be invading Steam in just three days. In addition to slightly slicker graphics, Earth Defense Force 4.1 will include a series of bonus levels and the option to lead a squad of NPC soldiers into battle against the alien menace.
D3 Publisher plans to sell Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair through Steam for $49.99, but the game will get a big 30% discount during a limited-time Launch Sale.
Yakuza 5, Earth Defense Force 4.1, Earth Defense Force 2, more added to PS Store
Yakuza 5 was originally released in Japan in 2012, and three years later it has finally made its way to North America courtesy of the PlayStation Store. Faster than you can say, “just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in,” Kazuma Kiryu has been pulled away from his quiet life as a taxi driver and back into the Japanese underworld in the PS3 game.
Also available to download this week is a pair of bug-hunting games in the Earth Defense Force franchise. Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair brings the series to the PS4 for the first time in an enhanced and expanded remake of Earth Defense Force 2025. Meanwhile, Earth Defense Force 2: Invaders From Planet Space for the Vita brings the second game in the series to North America for the first time. EDF! EDF! EDF!
You won’t find any giant bugs in Among the Sleep for the PS4, but the psychological horror game does feature frightening images from a two year old child’s vivid imagination. And finally this week, there’s nothing imaginary about the zombie outbreak occurring in Guns, Gore, & Cannoli, a cartoony side-scroller set in the gangster’s paradise of the 1930s.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)
New Releases: Devil’s Third, Earth Defense Force 4.1, Earth Defense Force 2, More
We’ll probably never learn the truth about what happened with Devil’s Third‘s. But development on the third-person action game is finally complete and the game will be released for the Wii U this week. Originally announced in 2010 as the first game from Tomonobu Itagaki’s Valhalla Game Studios, Devil’s Third was scheduled to launch in 2012 before a series of development difficulties and THQ’s bankruptcy created a huge bottleneck. No one’s really sure what happened in the intervening years, but eventually, Nintendo stepped up and agreed to publish Devil’s Third exclusively for the Wii U. Even with that relationship in place, the publisher has been extremely quiet about Devil’s Third over the last year.
Also on the “New Release Shelf” this week are a pair of bug-bashing sci-fi games: Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair for the PS4 and Earth Defense Force 2: Invaders From Planet Space for the Vita. XSEED Games has stepped in for D3 Publisher and completely reworked Earth Defense Force 2025 for the PS4, while also publishing the second game in the series in North America for the first time.
Finally this week, EA is expanding The Sims 4 with The Sims 4: Get Together.

Warp Zoned’s 2014 Golden Pixel Awards: Honoring Our Favorite Games
With the PS4 and Xbox One entering their first full year on store shelves, 2014 turned out to be a bit of a transition year. A lot of games were delayed into 2015 and a few others were delayed even further. With the other two consolemakers taking a step back in 2014, it was Nintendo’s time to shine and the wizards behind the Wii U responded with nearly a dozen major titles. But that doesn’t mean the PS4 and the Xbox One (or the PS3 and Xbox 360, for that matter) went hungry in 2014.
There were plenty of great games to go around last year and you can read all about them as we hand out our annual Golden Pixel Awards… (more…)
EDF 2025: The Shadow of New Despair TGS 2014 trailer pits mechas versus kaiju
D3 Publisher unveiled a new trailer for Earth Defense Force 2025: The Shadow of New Despair at the Tokyo Game Show today. Best of all, this trailer gives us our first glimpse at “The New Despair,” a massive Godzilla-like creature with glowing blue plates all over his body. Thankfully, the EDF has a counter weapon in the form of a towering mecha that looks like something out of The Transformers. If you’re a fan of the franchise, I strongly suggest you make time to check out this new trailer.
The PS4 upgrade of the bug-hunting favorite is currently on track for a 2015 release in Japan. Hopefully, an American release will be announced soon.

The game, which will be released in Japan as Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair, will either be a self-contained expansion or an expanded re-release of the original game with new content.
You can check out the game’s debut trailer above and prepare to purchase more Raid by the pallet, the “New Despair” looks like he won’t go down easy. Hopefully, a North American release date will be announced soon.
