New Retail Releases: For Honor, Sniper Elite 4, Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition, More
Five new games will be available on store shelves this week, and three of them will ask players to study the art of war…
The combat-heavy For Honor certainly fits the theme, and Ubisoft’s action game will pit some of history’s strongest warriors against each other. Coming to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this week, For Honor asks players to choose their Faction (Knights, Vikings, or Samurai) and take them into battle in a single-player Campaign and an online Multiplayer Mode.
Another historical skirmish will be waged on the PS4 and Xbox One this week in Sniper Elite 4. Once again developed by Rebellion, Sniper Elite 4 transports players back to World War II and provides them with a series of missions for the Allies on the Italian front. The Day One Edition will also give early adopters the chance to kill Hitler in the “Target: Fuhrer” bonus mission.
It’s unlikely that future conflicts will play out like they do in science fiction, but Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition will give fans of the franchise a chance to try out 21st century tactics against Atriox and his Banished followers. The real time strategy game will be available for the Xbox One and as an Windows 10 Digital Code (which also includes an Xbox One download thanks to the Xbox Play Anywhere program), and the Ultimate Edition will be bundled with the Season Pass and a digital copy of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition.
And speaking of bundles, an Xbox One S 1TB + Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition Bundle will also launch this week, alongside a brand new Xbox One S 500GB + Forza Horizon 3 Bundle.
A different kind of war will take place on the racetracks of Ride 2, which will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this week. The hyperrealistic motorcycle racing sim will include more than 230 licensed bikes, as well as 1,200 real-world parts, 800 accessories, and over 30 tracks.
Finally, a special Retail Edition of Earthlock: Festvial of Magic will be released for the PS4. Currently available to download from the PlayStation Store, Earthlock is a turn-based RPG that features a very retro sensibility.

Conan plays For Honor with Tom Brady, Dwight Freeney, and a severed head on a stick
As much as some people don’t want to admit it, Super Bowl Sunday is an American institution. The cultural behemoth has even birthed its own batch of spinoff traditions (Commercials! The Puppy Bowl! Clogged Pipes at Halftime!), but none is as enjoyable as Conan O’Brien’s annual trip to the Super Bowl for a football-themed episode of Clueless Gamer.
In “Clueless Gamer at the Super Bowl III,” Conan invited Erin Andrews to serve as the sideline reporter in an epic clash between New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Atlanta Falcons defensive end Dwight Freeney. The two athletes crossed swords in Ubisoft’s For Honor, and the button-mashing brawler was perfect for two guys who clearly don’t play a lot of games. Thankfully, Conan called up a few ringers and got Marshawn Lynch, Rob Gronkowski, and LeGarrette Blount to liven up the action.
So who won this battle of the titans? You’ll have to watch the video to find out, but I’m sure the similarities between For Honor’s “Knights Vs Vikings Vs Samurai” storyline and all the gladiator imagery from Any Given Sunday didn’t go unnoticed by Conan’s crew.
However, who wins the For Honor fight might be in for a disappointment because Conan’s Clueless Gamer has become something of a reverse-predictor of Super Bowl glory. In 2015, Lynch beat Gronkowski in Mortal Kombat X, but the Seahawks went home empty-handed from Super Bowl. A year later, Josh Norman of the Carolina Panthers out-Doomed Von Miller of the Denver Broncos, but it was Miller who won the MVP award and Super Bowl 50.
For Honor will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 14.
For Honor Collector’s Edition will be available exclusively at GameStop
GameStop has revealed that they’re all set to be the exclusive retailer for the Collector’s Edition of Ubisoft’s multiplayer Knights-Vikings-Samurai mashup For Honor.
Priced at a wallet-busting $219.99, the Collector’s Edition will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One who want everything the game has to offer. The package includes a copy of For Honor’s Gold Edition, along with a statue, and other goodies:

FOUR new trailers highlight For Honor’s Faction War mode, single-player campaign, and upcoming Closed Beta
Ubisoft wants players to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day in 2017 with For Honor, a game devoted to the eternal feud between Knights, Samurai, and Vikings. It’s an absolutely silly premise, but the publisher is building a plot-heavy single-player campaign around the conflict, which is on display in the brand new trailer embedded above:
Three legendary warrior factions – The noble Knights of the Iron Legion, the deadly Samurai of the Dawn Empire, and ferocious Vikings of the Warborn clans – are under threat from a mysterious and bloodthirsty warlord named Apollyon. Storm castles, defeat invading armies, and win epic duels as you battle for the survival of your people.
In addition to the single-player campaign, Ubisoft revealed a bit more about For Honor’s Faction War contest, which appears to be patterned after Mortal Kombat X‘s similarly-named metagame. In For Honor’s Faction War, players will choose a side and earn War Assets after competing in multiplayer matches. Players can use these War Assets to help other players fight for territory, and members of each faction will receive rewards based on their performance during each ten-week season.
Prospective players will get a taste of the Faction War metagame during For Honor’s Closed Beta, which will take place in January, and registration for a chance to join is now available at ForHonorGame.com/war.
Finally, Ubisoft wants to help with your faction decision by unveiling three new trailers (available after the break) that focus on a prominent Knight, Samurai, and Viking:
- The Peacekeeper: Selected from the desperate, the humbled or the devoted, they are sworn to secrecy by unbreakable oaths. Quick and lethal, they fight with a short sword in one hand and a dagger in the other. Peacekeepers are the deadliest duelists of all Assassins, capable of winning a fight before their enemy even knows they are here.
- The Shugoki: Once the guardians of the Samurai, they have become as family. Massive and fierce, their weapon of choice is the kanabo, a huge stick that they only can wield efficiently. The Shugoki might not have the same agility as the other Samurai, but their rock-like resistance and demon-like strength make them an unavoidable force on the battlefield.
- The Warlord: Warlord is a name from an ancient Viking tradition, a name that is earned by only the true leaders in combat, those who are ready to spend their whole life servicing all who need it. Warlords’ shields are as versatile as they are strong and their sword, while simple in design, is sharp and deadly.

Ubisoft will release Watch Dogs 2, For Honor, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and South Park: The Fractured But Whole before March 31, 2017
Ubisoft may have put the kibosh on a new Assassin’s Creed game for 2016, but they have big plans for the rest of their portfolio in the near-term, including an official announcement for Watch Dogs 2. Ubisoft has been teasing a sequel to their techno-thriller for quite some time, so it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise that it’s taking over the release window for Assassin’s Creed (at least temporarily).
However, the further adventures of Aiden Pearce won’t be the only game that Ubisoft will release throughout their 2016-2017 fiscal year. The company also plans to launch For Honor, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and a new “high-potential AAA brand” between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017.
Ubisoft plans to reveal more information about their upcoming slate of games sometime in the next two weeks.

Ubisoft will bring AC: Syndicate, The Division, For Honor, Rainbow Six: Siege to PAX 2015
As always, Ubisoft will have a commanding presence at this year’s PAX Prime expo. The publisher will ask players to take command of four demos on the show floor including Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, For Honor, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, and Tom Clancy’s The Division.

Ubisoft’s For Honor asks the most important question ever… Knights, Vikings, or Samurai?
The fighting prowess of historical societies is one of those great lunchroom debates that will never go away. During this year’s E3 Expo, Ubisoft revealed For Honor, a melee fighter that will put all those theories to the test:
Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, For Honor drops gamers into the chaos of a raging battlefield during an ongoing war between three Great Factions: the bold Knights (the Legions), the brutal Vikings (the Warborn) and the enigmatic Samurai (the Chosen). For every battle, players can choose which warrior they want to embody amongst the unique Heroes from this pantheon and use their distinct skills and weapons to fight for land, people and honor, decimating all soldiers, archers and opposing Heroes who stand in their way.
For Honor includes both a thrilling multiplayer and an engaging, single-player campaign, letting players conquer their foes alone or with friends. Tense gameplay mixes the skill and ruthlessness of a shooter with the quick, heat of the battle decision-making of team-based tactical games.
For Honor will include a very unique control scheme, allowing players to have maximum control over their weapon. Dubbed the “Art of Battle” system, Ubisoft’s Jason Vandenberghe dove into the nuts and bolts of the control scheme in a development blog at For Honor’s official website. A second trailer, which discusses the control scheme, as well as gameplay from For Honor’s 4v4 “Dominion Mode,” is available after the break.
