Star-studded Launch Trailer reveals June 29 release date for Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow
Twentieth Century Fox, Jam City, and TinyCo have announced that Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will be available to download for iOS and Android devices on June 29. And to help celebrate the game’s launch, they’ve recruited a quartet of celebrities to “head”line its Launch Trailer.
In addition to appearing in the trailer, Stephen Hawking, George Takei, Bill Nye, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson will also be playable characters in Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, and all four will have their own unique storyline THe original animation team and Futurama‘s producers, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, are working closely with the development team on Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, and they will continue to produce more animated sequences like this Launch Trailer after the game’s launch.
Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will be a free-to-play title that blends “simulation, combat, galactic exploration, and choose-your-own-adventure gameplay” in an all-new adventure starring Fry, Leela, Bender, Professor Farnsworth, and the rest of the Planet Express crew.
Yes, even Zoidberg.
Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow teaser trailer features a new animated short starring the show’s cast
Futurama gave fans an epic series finale back in 2013, but an upcoming mobile game from producers Matt Groening and David X. Cohen will give everyone one more chance to pilot the Planet Express with Fry, Leela, and Bender.
After initially teasing the game a few months ago, developer Jam City revealed today that Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will be a retro-styled RPG with simulation and exploration elements:
Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will blend simulation, combat, galactic exploration, and choose-your-own-adventure mechanics together to bring the escapades of the Planet Express crew to life. The game features two main settings: New New York, which focuses on simulation and character progression gameplay, and Space Adventures, in which players will explore and battle their way through planets, nebulas, and other weird stuff across the Futurama universe.
In New New York, players will focus on rescuing characters, collecting special items and materials, expanding their characters’ capabilities by leveling them up and crafting ability-defining character outfits, and tackling story-driven quests. Events that occur in New New York will often move the game’s overarching narrative forward, by allowing players to assemble a crew of their favorite Futurama characters and take to the stars for Space Adventures.
While traversing the depths of space, players will fight alien enemies in retro arcade-style combat, rendered in beautiful 16-bit graphics, and explore strange lands in which their choices determine their fate.
Worlds of Tomorrow will also include new animation featuring voice work from Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, and the rest of the Futurama cast. You can get your first taste of these mini-adventures (the first original animation created for the show since the finale) in the teaser trailer embedded above.
Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will be available to download “soon” through the iOS App Store and Google Play Store.
Matt Groening and David X. Cohen will help bring Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow to mobile devices
Good news, everyone! Futurama, Matt Groening’s cartoon chronicle of the year 3000, will rise from the sitcom graveyard a third time as Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, an upcoming mobile game from TinyCo.
TinyCo is best known as the developer of Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, and in addition to working with Groening, they’ve recruited Executive Producer David X. Cohen and the show’s original animators at Rough Draft Studios to help produce the game.
“Futurama is back, bigger and better than ever! Or possibly smaller and equally good. But either way, it’s back!” said Cohen. “We’ve got completely new stories from the original writers, cast, and animators. This is the real Futurama deal.”
“I love this game because it feels just like Futurama,” added Groening. “Except now you get to jab the characters in the face.”
TinyCo will unveil more details about Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow soon, and the game is expected to launch later this year for iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire devices.
