Game Awards 2016 Trailer: Prey

Raphael Colantonio of Arkane Studios took the stage at this year’s Game Awards to show off the next trailer for Prey, which is still on track for a 2017 launch. The trailer showed a good amount of gameplay, featuring plenty of puzzle-solving and alien-blasting action. The game looks to blend the feeling of space isolation with intense combat.

Game Informer will feature Prey on an upcoming cover, but in the meantime you can find a short demo playthrough of the game after the break. (more…)

Game Awards 2016 Trailer: Dauntless

Another new trailer shown during this year’s Game Awards was for Dauntless, a co-op RPG title coming to the PC in 2017. Not much is known about Dauntless, but we know its in development at Phoenix Labs and that it’ll be free-to-play. However, we also have the description below the YouTube video (“Discover a shattered world, forge powerful weapons, and hunt the ferocious behemoths threatening our survival.”) and a little more information found at PlayDauntless.com

More on Dauntless as it becomes available. But in the meantime, enjoy the announcement trailer.

Game Awards 2016 Teaser: Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy

The term “teaser” couldn’t be any more apropos for this Game Awards trailer. The latest episodic series from Telltale Games is none other than Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series. There wasn’t a whole lot to show off in this trailer. It simply showed Star Lord’s iconic Walkman floating in space. No release window was given, but the five-part title is coming to mobile devices, consoles, and PC in 2017.

More on Guardians of the Galaxy as it develops.

Game Awards 2016 Trailer: Death Stranding

The 2016 Game Awards kicked off with a belated round of applause for Hideo Kojima, who was unable to attend last year’s event due to his falling out with Konami. Geoff Keighley introduced Mr. Kojima on stage to present him with the Industry Icon Award, and after delivering his acceptance speech, the developer showed off the next trailer for his highly-anticipated title, Death Stranding.

This trailer gave us a better idea of the game’s world. There is literally an army of the undead causing destruction… skeletons decked out in army fatigues patrol a dystopian world. One man (who resembles director Guillermo Del Toro) appears to be hiding from the army, and tries to take refuge in a viaduct. He uses an embryo in a jar, possibly to keep the evil army at bay, when a platoon of skeletons approach, being led by a living person (played by Mads Mikkelsen).

The trailer raises more questions than it answers, but it looks amazing. Keighley also confirmed that the trailer is running in 4K, realtime, on a PS4 Pro. No release date was given, but knowing Kojima’s talent, it’ll probably be worth the wait.

Host Geoff Keighley has promised plenty of surprises for this year’s Game Awards, but another eager developer has spilled the beans on a World Premiere trailer we’ll get a peak at tonight. In a short tweet, Yacht Club Games confirmed they’ll debut a new trailer for their next project during the show:

While it’s possible that Yacht Club will unveil something brand new, the pun-loving developers are most likely referring to Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment with that “reap what we show” line. Specter of Torment will be the second (of three) planned expansions for Shovel Knight, and it’s currently on track for a Spring 2017 launch on the 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, and Xbox One.

The 2016 Game Awards will be held tonight at 8:30 PM (Eastern Time), and you can watch the show at TheGameAwards.com.

It looks like Telltale fans will have to shamble into December to get their next Walking Dead fix. Today, the developer announced that the (currently untitled) first episode of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier will premiere on December 20.

Like with Telltale’s previous games, fans will be able to download it for a large number of platforms including the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and mobile devices. Telltale also announced that everyone who pre-orders A New Frontier on the PS4 will also receive The Walking Dead Season 2 and The Walking Dead: Michonne for free.

The digital downloads will be followed by the release of a Season Pass Disc for the PS4 and Xbox One on February 7. The Season Pass Disc will include the first episode of the season, along with downloadable access to all subsequent episodes as they become available.

When family is all you have left… how far will you go to protect it? Four years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to find the family taken from him, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last.

Telltale debuted A New Frontier’s first trailer this past Summer at the E3 Expo, but they plan to give fans a closer look at the game during this year’s Game Awards on December 1.

The Game Awards will once again be produced and hosted by Geoff Keighley, who will honor this year’s best games and look to the future with a number of huge World Premieres, including the first gameplay footage from BioWare’s Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Before we blast off to a far away galaxy, let’s stop and recognize Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which received eight nominations this year from the Game Awards Advisory Board.
