Maxis to announce next project at GDC 2012
It’s starting to look like Electronic Arts has every intention of owning this year’s Game Developers Conference. A few days ago, the publisher confirmed that a Medal of Honor 2 announcement will take place during the conference. Now, EA’s Senior Director of PR, Erik Reynolds, has also revealed that Maxis (creators of SimCity, The Sims, and Spore) will unveil their next project during the “EA Game Changers” event.
Scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 at 6:00 PM (Pacific Time), the event’s tagline is “How Can We Change the World Together?,” so whatever Maxis is cooking up, expect it to have a ton of community features like we saw in Spore. The event has also been described as “huge” and Reynolds promised that “special guests” will be in attendance.
If you can’t make it to GDC, fret not, as EA plans to livestream the announcement at EA.com/gamechangers.
Medal of Honor 2 to be unveiled at GDC 2012
EA has sent out an invitation confirming the announcement of a sequel to 2010’s Medal of Honor, according to GameSpot.
The invitation indicates that EA’s announcement will be on Tuesday, March 6, at 8 PM PST. This puts it right smack in the middle of the 2012 Game Developer’s Conference, which is in San Francisco from March 5 to March 9.
I personally am thrilled to hear that they’re releasing a sequel – I loved Medal of Honor and played a ludicrous amount of it. Also, my birthday is on March 8, so I can’t think of a better present EA could give me. Thanks, guys!

2012 IGF Awards add XBLA Prize
The organizers of the Independent Games Festival have announced that they’ve partnered with Microsoft to create the XBLA Prize.
The prize is open to any entrant in the Main Competition or the Student Showcase. And the IGF entrant who wins the XBLA Prize will receive a “guaranteed first-party publishing deal to release the selected title on Microsoft’s Live-enabled platforms, including the Xbox Live Arcade, Windows Phone, and Windows.” Funding to complete the title will also be offered to the winning development team.
Microsoft’s Ted Woolsey, Head of First Party Publishing for XBLA, said, “Playing a role in empowering creative, independent developers, and then delivering the fruits of their labor to a wide fan base on Xbox 360, Windows Phone and soon Windows 8 is an amazingly rewarding job for me and the publishing teams at Microsoft Studios. We can’t wait to see what will come next!”
The 2012 IGF Awards will be handed out during next year’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on March 7th, 2012. The complete list of entrants for next year’s IGF Awards can be found here.
