DICE will unveil Battlefield 4 on March 26 at GDC 2013
A little over a week ago, Electronic Arts sent out an email to members of the media inviting them to “Save the Date” for a special announcement during the Game Developers Conference. Yesterday, they sent out a second round of invitations confirming that the event, which will take place on March 26 at 7 PM (Pacific Time), will feature a first look at Battlefield 4.
Back in 2011, Battlefield 3 made its debut during a similar presentation at the Game Developer Conference. And it was available in stores less than a year later. So I think it’s safe to assume that Battlefield 4 will follow a similar schedule and we should all be playing it by Christmas.
Previously, the only we’d received of Battlefield 4 was the promise that Medal of Honor: Warfighter purchasers would be invited to take part in the game’s beta. So it’s assumed that the game will launch on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, with a PS4 port a possibility.

Princeton Review names University of Utah the best undergrad game design program for 2013
The Princeton Review has released the latest update to “Top Schools to Study Video Game Design,” their annual list of the best colleges for game design in the country. After dominating the undergrad list for three straight years, the University of Southern California has been dethroned by the University of Utah. However, USC still holds the top spot on the list of graduate programs.
The Princeton Review studied and ranked 50 different game design programs for this year’s report focusing on “the school curriculum, faculty, facilities, and infrastructure, plus career services, student scholarships, and financial aid.” The rankings can be found after the break and the complete report, which includes profiles of the schools, can be found at PrincetonReview.com. Bungie will unveil Destiny at GDC 2013
Bungie’s Destiny, the first game in their multi-year, multi-project deal with Activision, has been hidden behind enough security to make a man in black blush (discounting that unfortunate leak back in November). But the developer is ready to blow the doors off of their “New Universe” this March with an eye-opening presentation at the Game Developers Conference that will delve into their world building skills.
Design Director Joe Staten and Art Director Christopher Barrett will be on hand to describe the Bungie process, including “a glimpse” of Destiny. Here’s what your GDC 2013 program will say about the presentation:
Two decades of success in the gaming industry is no small feat, but after ten years of Halo, Bungie found themselves faced with a tremendous challenge: to build a whole new world, filled with even more amazing mysteries, places, creatures, and opportunities for player investment. For the first time ever, Bungie creative directors will discuss their world building techniques, from concept to production. Attendees will walk away with key insights into Bungie’s battle-tested design process. They’ll get a glimpse of the brave new world that has been built, a place where the next ten years of great Bungie adventures will unfold.
Destiny is expected to be available this Fall.
2013 Independent Games Festival nominees announced
The finalists have been announced for this year’s Independent Games Festival, and the lists are full of games I love, and games I can’t wait to love. I’m sad that 10000000 isn’t on there, considering that’s what would get my vote for the game that totally destroyed my life for two days. Well, I guess that might not be what developers want to be known for, but I promise – it’s a compliment.
Whether or not my favorite time on the iPad is represented here, there are plenty of great games being celebrated. Kentucky Route Zero is up for Excellence In Visual Art, Pixeljunk 4AM has been nominated for Excellence In Audio, and another one of my favorites, Super Hexagon, might just win Excellence In Design. The games will be playable at GDC in March on the expo floor. Hit the jump for the full list of categories, finalists, and honorable mentions. (more…)
