Journey, The Walking Dead lead 2013 BAFTA nominations
Journey and The Walking Dead continue to rack up nominations in the remaining “Best Games of 2012” competitions.
This time, the two titles have dominated their peers during the nominations phase of the 2013 BAFTA Awards. “The British Oscars” have been handing out their Games Awards since 2003 and thegamecompany’s Journey leads the pack this year with nine nominations. Telltale’s The Walking Dead wasn’t far behind with seven nominations.
Both games are up for the coveted “Best Game” award, along with Dishonored, Far Cry 3, FIFA Soccer 13, and Mass Effect 3.
They might not have earned a spot in the “Best Game” category, but many of 2012’s other big hitters scored multiple nominations at the BAFTAs. Borderlands 2 received four nominations while Assassin’s Creed III and Call of Duty: Black Ops II both received three.

Halo 4: Spartan Ops Episode 9 Review: Back On (Treaded) Track
Halo 4 Spartan Ops has had its ups and downs, but here in the second half of Season 1, things have generally been on the upswing. Sure, Episode 8 felt a little like a step backward, but that’s only because it was preceded by the outstanding Episode 7. CoD: Black Ops II is the bestselling game of January 2013
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is the bestselling game of the month for a third month in a row, according to the NPD Group’s January 2013 report of retail game sales.
Capcom’s Devil May Cry reboot, DMC: Devil May Cry, was the only new release to crack the top ten. The game, the first created by UK developer Ninja Theory, clawed its way to sixth place.

Halo 4: Spartan Ops Episode 8 Review: Two Steps Forward, One Step Back
The latest episode of Halo 4 Spartan Ops has a tough act to follow, since Episode 7 was a tight, thrilling package that finally delivered the promised blend of action, intensity and story integration. While Episode 8 isn’t bad, it unfortunately pales in comparison. (more…)
Journey, The Walking Dead clean up at 2013 DICE Awards
A pair of downloadable games came away with almost half of all the awards handed out at last night’s D.I.C.E. Awards show. Journey, developed by thatgamecompany exclusively for the PS3, was the big winner of the night, nabbing eight awards including Game of the Year. Telltale’s The Walking Dead was also a multiple award winner, collecting four trophies.
Halo 4 (Visual Engineering and Connectivity) and XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Gameplay Engineering and Strategy/Simulation) were the only other games to win in more than one category.

Halo 4: Spartan Ops Episode 6 Review: Crimson’s Back… With a Vengeance
Rejoice, Halo 4 Spartan Ops fans: 343 Industries has kicked off the second half of Season One with Episode 6, the first of five new weekly releases for the popular four-player co-operative mode (and yes, I tried to squeeze in as many numbers into that sentence as humanly possible). And it is immediately apparent that 343 has listened to fan’s criticisms, because it starts you in the middle of a frantic battle and never lets up. (more…)
2013 Writers Guild Award for Videogame Writing nominees announced
The Writers Guild of America has announced the nominees for their 2013 Writers Guild Awards, and with them, the nominees for “Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing.”
To be eligible for consideration, this year’s nominees include games that were released between December 1, 2011 and November 30, 2012 on featured on-screen writing credits. This year, the Guild has continued their love affair with Ubisoft and the Uncharted series by bestowing nominations on Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Other nominated games for 2013 include Halo 4, 007 Legends, and Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.
