David Fincher-produced Halo 4 trailer premieres October 18
343 Industries’ Halo 4 will see its next trailer premiere during the October 18th episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. David Fincher, director of Fight Club and The Social Network, served as Executive Producer on the project, while Tim Miller, the visual effects artist who designed Fincher’s title sequence for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, helmed the ambitious trailer.
The extended two minute cut, dubbed “Scanned,” was shot in Prague, and promises to be an action-packed rollercoaster ride offering insight into the past of our helmet-clad protagonist, Master Chief, while also introducing the new threat he will face in this new installment.
Miller spoke very excitedly about leading the project: “Halo is one of the most iconic sci-fi universes, with a depth that allows for amazingly cinematic and emotionally riveting stories. The chance to tell a story that explores never-before-seen facets of Master Chief’s journey is an honor. Our goal is to deliver a blockbuster, Hollywood-quality trailer that raises the bar for the award-winning legacy of live-action ‘Halo’ storytelling and gets fans stoked for the return of Master Chief.”
The Xbox 360 exclusive hits stores worldwide on 6th November.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn premieres October 5; full-length trailer released
As promised, 343 Industries and Machinima Prime have unveiled the full-length trailer for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn at Comic-Con. The almost four-minute video has also revealed an October 5 premiere date for the episodic series. Five episodes will be produced, with a new episode appearing every week, culminating with the November 6 launch of Halo 4.
Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn tells an exciting story of heroism and sacrifice on a scale never before seen in the Halo universe, taking fans back to the beginning of the human and Covenant war and leading into the events of Halo 4. Set against the backdrop of a United Nations Space Command (UNSC) military academy, a group of highborn cadets are training to be the next generation of soldiers in the UNSC’s ongoing war with insurrectionists in the outer colonial planets. Among these cadets, Thomas Lasky struggles with his doubts about this war, and with the burden of expectations he may not be able to carry. As Lasky comes to terms with his potential as a military leader, the terrifying alien alliance known as the Covenant arrives and turns his world upside down. Inspired by the Master Chief, he must decide what it means to be a hero. Microsoft’s “Halo studio,” 343 Industries, is hard at work on this Fall’s Halo 4, which is the start of a brand new trilogy starring the Master Chief. But they’re also hard at work on the live-action episodic series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, which will also make its debut this Fall.
Over the weekend, Machinima unveiled the first Forward Unto Dawn teaser trailer, which you can view above.
It’s not quite a Halo movie, but I am definitely excited to learn more about Forward Unto Dawn at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which begins on July 12.
The Last of Us wins five Best of E3 2012 awards
It’s hard to argue with those who believe The Last of Us reigned supreme at this year’s E3 Expo. That claim has been given some further validation by the Game Critics Awards, which handed five “Best of E3 2012” statues to Naughty Dog for The Last of Us.
The game, which stars two survivors of a post-apocalyptic America, won “Best of Show,” “Best Original Game,” “Best Console Game,” and “Best Action/Adventure Game.” It also took home a “Special Commendation for Sound.”
No other game came close, though Dance Central 3, Halo 4, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown all won two awards and Watch Dogs collected two Commendations.
The Wii U was mostly shut out of the awards show, though the system itself won “Best Hardware” and the multiplatform Injustice: Gods Among Us won for “Best Fighting Game.”
A complete list of winners can be found after the break. (more…)
Game Critics Awards announce nominees for Best of E3 2012
The world’s biggest gaming websites, including Kotaku, IGN, Nintendo Power, Joystiq and The Escapist (don’t worry, Warp Zoned will be there one day!) have released their full list of nominees for awards pertaining to what was shown and played at this year’s E3 Expo. Some of the highlights of the show, such as Star Wars: 1313 or Ubisoft’s surprise Watch Dogs do not qualify, as the rules state the journalists must be able to “manipulate a game in real-time while running on its native platform.” However, it seems there was not much love for Nintendo’s Wii U, with no mention of the system’s most-anticipated game, ZombiU. Although both Wii Fit U and Game & Wario made it into the “Best Motion Simulation” category.
The awards will be handed out at GameCriticsAwards.com on June 26. The full list of nominees is available after the break. (more…)
