All Articles: Hyper Light Drifter
Hyper Light Drifter, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1+2, Tumblestone, more added to PS Store
The PlayStation Store is now home to a massive list of new releases, including a few sought-after indies, an RPG re-release, and a pair of surprise remasters from Marvel…
Hyper Light Drifter (PS4) is an overhead action RPG from Heart Machine with a uniquely “glitched” retro style. Meanwhile, Tumblestone (PS4) is a multiplayer match-3 puzzler that also includes a massive Story Mode. And Mutant Mudds Super Challenge (PS4 + PS Vita Cross-Buy) is a challenging side-scroller from Renegade Kid.
Looking to new games we’ve seen before, Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force (PS4) is a remastered re-release of an RPG from the PS3 era. And previously available for the PS3, Activision re-released the superhero team-ups Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 for the PS4 this week as standalone downloads and a two-game bundle.
Finally this week, Telltale continues their Minecraft: Story Mode with Episode 7: Access Denied on the PS4 and PS3. This time, Jesse and friends challenge an AI that’s run amok.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. And a complete list of this week’s new add-ons and discounts is available at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
Hyper Light Drifter will be available for PS4 and Xbox One next week
Gematsu is reporting that Hyper Light Drifter, Heart Machine’s beautiful action RPG, will be available to download for the PS4 and Xbox One next Tuesday, July 26.
The Zelda-like adventure smashed all expectations (and its $27,000 funding target) on Kickstarter in 2013, with backers ultimately pledging more than $645,000 towards its development. The expanded budget substantially increased the game’s scope, and the originally-announced Summer 2014 release date was pushed back again and again. But after launching to almost universal acclaim this past March, Hyper Light Drifter will hopefully find just as warm a welcome on consoles.
Hyper Light Drifter is also in development for the Wii U and Vita, but the last Kickstarter update revealed that it’s unlikely the game will debut on either platform before the Fall.
Disasterpeace’s soundtrack to Hyper Light Drifter is now available to download
The haunting music of Hyper Light Drifter has captivated prospective players ever since the game’s first trailer was released way back in 2013. Of course, I wouldn’t expect anything less from Richard “Disasterpeace” Vreeland, the maestro behind Mini Metro, Fez, and It Follows.
Yesterday, the composer released the full soundtrack to Hyper Light Drifter through his official website. You can listen to the entire album, which clocks in at just over two hours, in your browser or you can download it via Bandcamp for $5.
Hyper Light Drifter, a Zelda-like adventure in a heavily pixelated world, was released for the PC on March 31. A PS4, Vita, Wii U, and Xbox One release is planned for later this year.
Hyper Light Drifter will be released for the PC (Windows/Mac) on March 31
Hyper Light Drifter, the overhead action RPG from Heart Machine, finally has an officially release date… and it’s next week. The Kickstarter success story will be released for the PC (Windows/Mac) on March 31. A Linux launch will hopefully happen on the same day, though it may slip if the team needs a bit of extra time. To celebrate the release date announcement, Heart Machine has also uploaded a brand new trailer for Hyper Light Drifter that feels suitably epic and looks absolutely gorgeous.
Hyper Light Drifter will also make its way to consoles (PS4, Wii U, Xbox One) and Sony’s Vita handheld sometime this year.
Hyper Light Drifter release date will be revealed next month; Wii U launch might not happen
The latest Kickstarter update for Hyper Light Drifter has delivered some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that a release date for Hyper Light Drifter will be announced next month. The developer, Heart Machine, previously said the overhead action RPG would be available for the PC in Spring 2016, with a console release to follow sometime after that. Unfortunately, that leads us directly into the bad news…
Hyper Light Drifter is still on track for a PS4, Vita, and Xbox One launch sometime this year, but the Wii U port is in “limbo” as of today. Heart Machine’s game is built using the GameMaker engine, which was expected to be compatible with the Wii U when development on Hyper Light Drifter began, but a contractual dispute between Nintendo and the people behind GameMaker have put that assumption in jeopardy. An agreement between the two sides is still a possibility, so the Wii U launch might happen without a hitch.
Heart Machine is also looking at other options to bring the game to Wii U owners if the situation can’t be resolved. So literally anything could happen with the port and “limbo” is probably the best way to describe it.
If a Wii U release for Hyper Light Drifter isn’t possible this year, Heart Machine will offer Kickstarter backers the opportunity to receive the game on a different platform.
A Day-By-Day Guide to All of 2016’s New Video Games (April – September)
The Spring and Summer months are currently less dense with new releases than the first three months of the year, but that should change fairly soon, especially since publishers have staked a claim to every week from the beginning of April to the end of June with at least one big new release dropping every seven days.
Are you ready? Because here… we… go… (more…)
Hyper Light Drifter gets a new trailer as Spring 2016 release date is confirmed
First, the bad news… Hyper Light Drifter won’t be released before the end of the year as originally planned. Instead, Heart Machine announced today that their dreamy action RPG will be released for the PC in Spring 2016 with a console release to follow “as quickly as possible” after that.
So what’s the good news? Well, the developer did release a beautiful new trailer for the game, which has been embedded above. They’ve also confirmed that a playable demo of Hyper Light Drifter will be available in the Indie Megabooth at this weekend’s PAX Prime expo.
It’s always disappointing when a game is delayed, but you can read more about Heart Machine’s reasons behind the decision in the latest Kickstarter update from Lead Developer Alex Preston.
Heart Machine will release Hyper Light Drifter on PC in 2015, consoles may slip to 2016
The good folks at ICXM‘s TIC Podcast recently got the chance to speak to Alex Preston of Heart Machine. The ensuing discussion got right to the heart of why everyone’s excited for Hyper Light Drifter, Preston’s retro-styled action RPG.
But Preston also delivered some bad news. Because of the game’s ambitious scope (backers obliterated Hyper Light Drifter’s $27,000 Kickstarter goal with $645,158 in pledges), it may not make it out in 2015 as originally planned. According to the interview, Preston still wants to release the PC version this year, but the console launch of Hyper Light Drifter will likely be pushed into 2016:
TIC Team: With so many games releasing this year, we know it can be hard to find a perfect time to release.
Alex Preston: We have not yet announced the release date. We have only said 2015 for PC first. Consoles take some time so, for example, Xbox One has a certification process that you have to go through. There are hundreds of things on that list you have to make sure are good to go on that system. It takes time. We’re a small team to do that. We want to get it out the door on PC first and we will give ourselves the correct amount of time after. Sometimes it takes months, sometimes it takes much longer depending on the certification process. It’s all about getting it on the platform as quickly as we can, but doing it the right way. That stuff can be really intense and expensive.
TIC Team: It sounds like we will see it on the Xbox One in 2016.
Alex Preston: It’s possible. We’re trying to get it all out as quickly as possible. We can’t rush the certification process. We don’t want to release a broken game. We don’t want to release a bad game. We’ll take the time that we need to. Those are the realities of it and those are the goals.
After its PC release, Hyper Light Drifter will ultimately be released for the PS4, Vita, Wii U, and Xbox One. However long the game’s development takes, it’ll probably be worth it. A closed beta was held last year for Kickstarter backers and we loved it.
