Midna stars in the last Hyrule Warriors character trailer

Hyrule Warriors will include six playable characters when it’s released this September and Koei Tecmo Japan has released five character-specific trailers thus far. Today, they unveiled the final trailer, which stars Midna of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Midna can ride a wolf and use its powerful jaws to bite through the hordes of enemies in Hyrule Warriors. And if she’s feeling bored, she can scoop up the wolf and throw it into a group of monsters. The Twili will also be able to grow a “hair hand” and use it to smack around her enemies.

Hyrule Warriors will be released exclusively for the Wii U on September 26.

The latest Hyrule Warriors character trailer stars Agitha

Koei Tecmo Japan has released a fifth character trailer for Hyrule Warriors. This time, we get to spend a few minutes with Agitha, the “Bug Princess” from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Agitha uses her parasol as a club, but her real power is in summoning giant insects to dispatch the mobs. Death by butterfly!

Hyrule Warriors will be released exclusively for the Wii U on September 26.

Meet Lana, an original character created for Hyrule Warriors, in this trailer

Koei Tecmo Japan has released another character trailer for Hyrule Warriors. This time we’re introduced to Lana, a new character created exclusively for the game.

Lana is a magic user who can blast enemies with magic bolts. In addition, she can create glass walls to keep enemies back, but they also serve an offensive purpose as the walls can be pushed into groups of enemies or shattered to shower the screen in sparks.

Hyrule Warriors will be released on September 26 in North America, though Japanese gamers (where it is known as Zelda Unrivaled) will get a chance to purchase it a month earlier on August 14.

Hyrule Warriors: Tecmo Koei Japan has released new trailers for Zelda and Impa too

hyrulewarriors-japan-header

Does anybody else remember when Impa was a frail old woman who collapsed after sending Link on his way to rescue the Princess in the original Legend of Zelda? Yeah… that’s not the Impa we’re going to get in Hyrule Warriors. Like the Link trailer they released last week, Tecmo Koei Japan has given us a glimpse of this Impa in a brand new trailer for the game. Between using a sword that’s taller than she is and the jagged scar across her face, this Impa is wicked intimidating.

The publisher has also released a new trailer featuring Zelda herself. The Princess uses magical light abilities to vanquish the monsters threatening Hyrule including a phantom bow and a portal that rains down meteors. She is no damsel in distress.

Hyrule Warriors will be released in Japan on August 14. We in America will get a chance to hack and slash our way through Hyrule on September 26. Both trailers can be found after the break. (more…)

Continue Countdown #5 – Mortal Kombat X, Forza Horizon 2, Pre-E3 Predictions, More

It’s the most wonderful time of the year as the 2014 E3 Expo is right around the corner. The Warp Zoned staff spent a recent night chatting about some of the big pre-E3 announcements during the latest episode of “Continue Countdown.” We pre-pre-judged Mortal Kombat X, Homefront: The Revolution, Forza Horizon 2, BattleCry, Battlefield Hardline, and Hyrule Warriors in the first six segments of the show.

But we also wanted to worry and fret over a trio of delayed games (Batman: Arkham Knight, The Order: 1886, and Quantum Break) as well as speculate about what a Smash Bros.-style Mario Kart game would be like (spoiler alert: it would be AWESOME). And the eternal question (How much would you pay for an E.T. cartridge excavated from a landfill?) was answered.

Finally, we slipped a few E3 predictions in there. We’re probably way off the mark, but it’s that magical pre-E3 time when anything seems possible.

Team Ninja is assisting with Hyrule Warriors development

hyrulewarriors-japan-header

We still don’t know much about Hyrule Warriors (Princess Zelda gets kidnapped again is about it), but it looks like Nintendo and Tecmo Koei have built an all-star team to develop it.

Omega Force, Tecmo Koei’s internal team that’s assigned to the Dynasty Warriors series, is handling the bulk of the game’s development. But according to the latest issue of Famitsu (via Siliconera), Team Ninja’s Hisashi Koinuma and Yosuke Hayasahi will also be involved in the game’s creation as producers. Hayashi has been the driving force behind the Ninja Gaiden series since Tomonobu Itagaki left Team Ninja in 2008 as well as one of the producer of Metroid: Other M. And as expected, Eiji Aonuma, the Series Producer of the Zelda franchise at Nintendo, is supervising the development of Hyrule Warriors to ensure it lives up to the Zelda name.

Hyrule Warriors (which is known as Zelda Unrivaled in Japan) will be released in Japan on August 14. The game will also be released in North America and Europe by the end of the year.
