Batman is prepared for this Injustice: Gods Among Us Comic-Con trailer

All you need to know about the Comic-Con trailer for Injustice: Gods Among Us is that Batman uses a remote control Batmobile to take out Harley Quinn. Sure, some other stuff happens, but none of it matters because, again, this trailer features A REMOTE CONTROL BATMOBILE TAKING OUT HARLEY QUINN!

Injustice: Gods Among Us will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U sometime next year.

Cyborg, Nightwing join the cast of Injustice: Gods Among Us

NetherRealm slowly dripfed gamers the complete character roster to the Mortal Kombat reboot and it looks like they plan to do the same thing with their next game, Injustice: Gods Among Us. A playable demo of the game available during Comic-Con’s preview night revealed that Cyborg and Nightwing will be joining the game.

So Cyborg is Jax and Nightwing is Jade, right?

Check out this 15-minute Injustice gameplay video

Ed Boon made an appearance at this weekend’s Evo 2012 tournament to show off Injustice: Gods Among Us, NetherRealm’s DC Comics fighter that is currently scheduled for a 2013 release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.

The Mortal Kombat creator demoed four characters: Superman, The Flash, Batman (voiced by Kevin Conroy!), and Solomon Grundy. In total, 24 character slots were visible during a quick glimpse of the selection screen. Each character takes plenty of inspiration from their comics counterpart and Boon was particularly keen to show Injustice’s destructible environments, multi-level arenas, hidden weapons, and the Clash System.

Most of these features have made appearances in many of NetherRealm’s previous games. But everything looks bigger and… dare I say it… more super in Injustice: Gods Among Us.

The Last of Us wins five Best of E3 2012 awards

It’s hard to argue with those who believe The Last of Us reigned supreme at this year’s E3 Expo. That claim has been given some further validation by the Game Critics Awards, which handed five “Best of E3 2012” statues to Naughty Dog for The Last of Us.

The game, which stars two survivors of a post-apocalyptic America, won “Best of Show,” “Best Original Game,” “Best Console Game,” and “Best Action/Adventure Game.” It also took home a “Special Commendation for Sound.”

No other game came close, though Dance Central 3, Halo 4, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown all won two awards and Watch Dogs collected two Commendations.

The Wii U was mostly shut out of the awards show, though the system itself won “Best Hardware” and the multiplatform Injustice: Gods Among Us won for “Best Fighting Game.”

A complete list of winners can be found after the break. (more…)

Game Critics Awards announce nominees for Best of E3 2012

The world’s biggest gaming websites, including Kotaku, IGN, Nintendo Power, Joystiq and The Escapist (don’t worry, Warp Zoned will be there one day!) have released their full list of nominees for awards pertaining to what was shown and played at this year’s E3 Expo. Some of the highlights of the show, such as Star Wars: 1313 or Ubisoft’s surprise Watch Dogs do not qualify, as the rules state the journalists must be able to “manipulate a game in real-time while running on its native platform.” However, it seems there was not much love for Nintendo’s Wii U, with no mention of the system’s most-anticipated game, ZombiU. Although both Wii Fit U and Game & Wario made it into the “Best Motion Simulation” category.

The awards will be handed out at GameCriticsAwards.com on June 26. The full list of nominees is available after the break. (more…)

Injustice ditches block button, adds Clash System

I think NetherRealm’s Injustice: Gods Among Us announcement was met with a worldwide chorus of, “It looks like Mortal Kombat with DC characters.” But there’s apparently more going on here under the hood.

For one thing, the game has jettisoned the block button, which was a staple of the Mortal Kombat series. Instead, Injustice will use Street Fighter-style blocking (pressing Back on the control pad).

Injustice will also use something called the Clash System, a chatty combo breaker system that attempts to emulate the verbal tet-a-tet often found in comic book fights.

“Once you go into this Clash thing, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, the characters will interact with each other. Batman will say specific stuff to Superman and vice-versa, different things than he would say to one of the other characters,” Lead Designer John Edwards said.

After they exchange a little smack talk, both characters will enter a “betting” phase, where they wager all or part of their super meter. The bets are kept secret (Edwards didn’t say how), and the higher bet wins the Clash.

“So if the defender wins the Clash, then he gets back all the health from that combo that he would have lost,” Edwards said. “If the attacker wins, [the defender] takes that damage plus a little bit more.”

It sounds a bit confusing, but hopefully it’ll all make sense when we see it in action ahead of Injustice’s 2013 release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.

First Injustice trailer, screenshots released

A day after the announcement of their first non-Mortal Kombat game in a long time, NetherRealm Studios has released the first trailer and screenshots for Injustice: Gods Among Us. And what do you know, it looks just like Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, just minus the Mortal Kombat characters.

Not that that’s a bad thing of course.

Injustice: Gods Among Us will be released for the PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 sometime next year. You can check out the first screenshots after the break. (more…)

NetherRealm’s next game is the DC Comics fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us

WB Games has announced that the next game from NetherRealm Studios, the creators of the Mortal Kombat series, will be Injustice: Gods Among Us. Described as a “bold new fighting game franchise,” Injustice will pit heroes and villains from the DC Comics universe against each other in “in epic battles on a massive scale.”

Think of it as Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, but without all those pesky ninjas.

Like the last two Mortal Kombat titles, Injustice will have a “deep, original story” that features such DC mainstays as Batman, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and many others.

“We can’t wait to reveal Injustice: Gods Among Us because it will give our fans and gamers an epic experience as they battle like gods as their favorite DC Comics villains and heroes,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios. “Our team is excited to make a fighting game that is filled with fast-paced action, incredible story-telling and iconic DC Comics characters.”

Warner Bros. will be bringing Injustice: Gods Among Us to the PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 sometime in 2013.
