Battlefield 3 blows away the competition in October NPD report
The NPD Group has released their report on the ten bestselling titles in October and, not surprisingly, Battlefield 3 takes the top spot. EA’s modern warfare sim likely won’t hold onto the crown for long as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released to record-breaking sales earlier this week.
Battlefield 3 was followed by a slew of new releases including Batman: Arkham City, NBA 2K12, Rage, Just Dance 3, Dark Souls, and Forza Motorsport 4. That’s right, the brutal action RPG Dark Souls outsold Microsoft’s big racing franchise.
Holdovers for this month include Madden NFL 12, Gears of War 3, and that other football game, FIFA Soccer 12. The complete top ten for October can be found after the break. (more…)
New Releases: Rage, NBA 2K12, Dark Souls, More
The Fall release rush began with some big titles in September, but now that we’re moving into October the new release list is going to get a lot more interesting from here on out.
This week’s biggest new release is id Software’s first game in over seven years, Rage (PC, PS3, Xbox 360). The post-apocalyptic shooter will also include Mad Max-style vehicle chases and more deserted lanscapes can you can shake a cactus at.
Speaking of deserted landscapes, 2K Sports will release NBA 2K12 (PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, Xbox 360) even though the 2011-2012 NBA season is currently in limbo.
If battling the forces of darkness is more your thing, perhaps you’ll want to look into Namco Bandai’s Dark Souls. The spiritual sequel to Demon’s Souls brings the series to the Xbox 360 for the first time.
Also available this week, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 will have to do battle with the forces of darkness in two time periods if they want to save Peter Parker’s life in Spider-Man: Edge of Time (3DS, DS, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360).
Finally, Ubisoft is serving up another dance lesson, on the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 this time, with Just Dance 3. And speaking of Kinect-powered games, Majesco will release Hulk Hogan’s Main Event for the Xbox 360.
Check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)
Just Dance with Scorpion, Smoke, Sub-Zero and Reptile at PAX
Ubisoft brought Just Dance 3 to this weekend’s PAX Prime and in between giving gamers the chance to try out the new Kinect-powered Xbox 360 version, a quartet of ninjas from the Mortal Kombat universe stopped by to shake their groove things to “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” by KISS. OK, it was just a bunch of guys cosplaying as Scorpion, Smoke, Sub-Zero and Reptile. Still pretty awesome though.
Just Dance 3 will be released for the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 on October 11. Ninja costumes not included.
New tracks, 4-player support for Just Dance 3
You now can have the choice to humiliate yourself at a party along with three of your friends: Ubisoft has announced 4-player support for Just Dance 3 at Comic-Con. Just Dance 3 is out on October 11 for the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360, so you might want to start limbering up now.
Along with the new mode that allows four simultaneous players to “jump in and jump out” of gameplay, Just Dance 3 will now allow you to record your own choreography to share online. Challenge your friends to match your own herky-jerky movements and join you on the Facebook tag wall of shame.
In addition to all of this, there are some new tracks to shake yo’ booty to:
- The Sugarhill Gang – “Apache (Jump On It)” (You all know the dance and don’t want to admit it)
- The Girly Team – “Baby One More Time” (The Britney Spears song?)
- Cee Lo Green – “Forget You” (Doesn’t this have another name?)
- Madness – “Night Boat to Cairo” (Walking like an Egyptian is optional)
- Tommy Sparks – “She’s Got Me Dancing” (I would hope so… I mean, it is in the game title)
- The Buggles – “Video Killed The Radio Star” (Hopefully not choreography featured in GTA: Vice City)
I don’t need a game to teach me how to dance. I can do the Macarena all by myself, thank you.
