New Killer Instinct trailer introduces Sadira, reintroduces B. Orchid
After a bit of teasing, Microsoft has pulled back the curtain on the first original fighter to join Killer Instinct, which will be available for the Xbox One as a digital download on November 22.
As we glimpsed in an earlier trailer, Sadira is part-Baraka (she has claws that she uses in close quarters combat and as projectile weapons) and part-Spider-Man (she has spider powers). She also may or may not have a harem. The trailer above wasn’t too clear on that.
What was clear was the stinger at the end, which revealed fan favorite B. Orchid would also join the game as part of the “Season One” character set. Jago, Sabrewulf, Glacius, and Chief Thunder were revealed earlier, so the game’s roster of eight still has two fighters unaccounted for.
Fingers crossed for Fulgore.
New Killer Instinct trailer shows Chief Thunder combos and a NEW CHARACTER
Microsoft has released a new trailer for Killer Instinct starring the world’s most second-most third-most popular Native American fighting game character… Chief Thunder. Watch as the Chief puts the smackdown on Jago with his special “Thunder Combos” in the video above.
And be sure to stick around until the end of the trailer, because developer Double Helix has revealed their first original addition to the Killer Instinct lineup. The unnamed female ninja has the fashion sense of Mileena, the dagger arms of Baraka, and the spider powers of Spider-Man.
Killer Instinct is playable on the PAX Prime show floor this weekend. It’ll be officially released for the Xbox One in November.
Microsoft planning “second season” of Killer Instinct DLC characters in 2014
During last week’s Gamescom expo, Microsoft announced two additional bundles for their free-to-play reboot of Killer Instinct If fans want to obtain all eight characters, they’ll want to purchase the “Combo Breaker Pack” or the “Ultra Edition” (which also included an emulated version of the original Killer Instinct. But these eight characters (which include Jago, Chief Thunder, Sabrewulf, and Glacius) will only comprise “Season One” of Killer Instinct.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Microsoft’s Ken “GoldenEye‘s Klobb is Named After Me” Lobb revealed that eight additional characters will be released for the game in 2014 as part of “Season Two.” Both sets of characters will be able to battle it out together in Killer Instinct and Lobb hinted that a complete collection of Season Two characters would also be priced at $19.99.
Finally, Lobb revealed that Jago wouldn’t be the only free character in Killer Instinct. Currently, the plan is to switch the free character every three months. “[I]n that sense you can play for free over years and sample more than just Jago,” he Lobb.
MS bringing Killer Instinct, Battlefield 4, Forza 5, Ryse, “other suprises” to PAX Prime 2013
PAX Prime practically takes place in Microsoft’s backyard and the consolemaker will have a large presence at the show, taking over three booths (#412, #422, and #432) and a hefty chunk of the Washington State Convention Center. But they only plan to have eight games on display, and one of them is on loan from Electronic Arts.
Four Xbox One games will be playable on the show floor including Crytek’s Ryse: Son of Rome, Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport 5, Double Helix’s Killer Instinct reboot, and DICE’s Battlefield 4.
Microsoft also plans to erect a massive theater in their booth that will showcase developer-guided demos of four additional games on a 30-minute rotation. The rotation includes new looks at Rare’s Kinect Sports Rivals:, Capcom’s Dead Rising 3, the game creation game Project Spark, and the lone Xbox 360 game in their booth, Fable Anniversary. According to Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb, “other surprises” may be in store for the Xbox booth as well.
This year’s PAX Prime expo runs from August 30 through September 2. More details on all of the demos can be found after the break. (more…)
Killer Instinct: Ultra Edition announced
Along with revealing Chief Thunder as the latest character in their long-awaited Killer Instinct reboot, Microsoft and Double Helix today announced a few different purchasing options for the game. They are as follows:
Free To Play (Free) – Includes the game plus one playable character. Additional characters (including Thunder, Jago, Sabrewulf, and Glacius) will be available to download for $4.99 / £3.99 / €4.99 each.
Combo Breaker Pack ($19.99 / £16.99 / €19.99) – Includes the first eight characters, six at launch and two as DLC.
Ultra Edition ($39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99) – Includes all of the above, plus character accessory packs, costumes, and (best of all) the original Killer Instinct arcade game!
Killer Instinct will be available when the Xbox One launches in November.
Killer Instinct will be Free-To-Play and available on launch day
Killer Instinct will look very different from what fans remember when it’s released for the Xbox One later this year.
The fighter isn’t being developed at Rare. Instead, the game’s next-generation debut will be handled by Double Helix Games (probably best known for Silent Hill Homecoming). It will also be… brace yourself… free-to-play.
The “base game” will consist of a single character, Jago, and all other characters (including Sabrewulf and Glacius, along with other returning and new characters) will be available to download for a to-be-determined charge. It’s definitely an odd offer, and it’s unknown if there will be a “full game” charge or if each character will have to purchased piecemeal.
Killer Instinct will be available to download for the Xbox One on the system’s launch date in November.

MS @ E3 13: Killer Instinct confirmed for Xbox One
This is both a surprise and not a surprise, but Microsoft has announced that a new Killer Instinct is in development for the Xbox One.
I’d say this certainly qualifies as the resurrection of an “historic” property from Rare. Killer Instinct will be available for the Xbox One this year.
