All Articles: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Kingdoms of Amalur’s story continues March 20 with The Legend of Dead Kel
The story for EA’s Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will expand next month thanks to the recently announced expansion, The Legend of Dead Kel. Man, I hope Kenan didn’t do it, that would break my heart.
Mildly obscure mid-90s references aside, The Legend of Dead Kel opens up the land of Gallows End, “a gigantic new continent to explore.” There, players will claim ownership of an estate and “experience new weapons, Twists of Fate and other perks against new enemies.” Finally, the expansion will offer “numerous side quests, multiple dungeons to explore and a colorful cast of characters.”
All this can be yours on March 20 for 800 Microsoft Points (from the Xbox Live Marketplace) or $10 (from Origin, Steam, or the PlayStation Store).
New Releases: Resident Evil Revelations, Kingdoms of Amalur, The Darkness II, More
Some ambitious games that have been a long time coming will be available in stores this week.
Chief among them is Resident Evil Revelations, Capcom’s second zombie-killing game for the 3DS, but the first to tell a new tale in the franchise’s lengthy saga.
Also available is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the first game from Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios. The game has been in development practically since Mr. Bloody Sock retired back in 2007. It’ll be interesting to see what his dream team of developers came up with when it releases for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this week.
2K’s The Darkness II (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) is neither the start of a new franchise nor is it the latest entry in a long-runner. But fans have been clamoring for a sequel to the 2007 shooter and now they’ll finally get it.
If you prefer your “new” games in collected form, two new ones round this week’s major releases: the PS3-exclusive Jak and Daxter Collection (which brings together the first three games in the series) and the Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition (which collects the main game and all of the DLC in a PC, PS3, or Xbox 360 package).
You can check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)
Curt Schilling talks Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
There are a lot of big names behind Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Executive Designer Ken Rolston, is a veteran developer who has worked on The Elder Scrolls series. Fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore created Amalur’s world and the lore within it. And Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn and those strangely sexual action figures based on The Wizard of Oz, assisted with the art direction. But the biggest name connected to Kingdoms of Amalur is one that doesn’t get mentioned very often: Curt Schilling, the founder of 38 Studios and former Major League Baseball player.
Schilling’s bloody sock may be immortalized in Cooperstown, but aside from being a staunch World of Warcraft advocate, he’s still toiling away in the Minors when it comes to game development. We’ll find out if he gets the call up to the big show next week when Reckoning ships to stores, but like any leader in the locker room, Schilling has plenty to say about the journey that brought him (and the rest of the team at 38 Studios) to this point… (more…)
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Hands-On Preview: The Elder Fable of War Effect
Imagine, if you will, that there was an action RPG that incorporated elements from games such as God of War, Fable, The Elder Scrolls series, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect. Now imagine that the development of this game involved Ken Rolston, the lead designer of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the lore of fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore, and the art of Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn. Well, imagine no longer! Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is on its way and is ready to drown you in an amalgam of role-playing goodness. More from EA at E3 including Insomniac’s Xbox 360/PS3 game
Electronic Arts already unveiled the majority of their E3 2011 lineup earlier this month. But the megapublisher wasn’t done and has a few more titles to add to their expanding slate of games.
The big news, confirmed by the developer’s Twitter feed, is that Insomniac’s PS3/Xbox 360 game will make its worldwide debut during EA’s E3 press conference (Monday, June 6 at 3:30 PM Eastern Time).
A trio of other games will also be on hand at this year’s E3 Expo including The Sims 3: Pets (3DS, PC, PS3, Xbox 360); Curt Schilling’s Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (PC, PS3, Xbox 360); and NHL 12 (PS3, Xbox 360).
