Nintendo Download: Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, more

legocityundercover-header

This week’s Nintendo Download should really be referred to as “next week’s Nintendo Download” as most of the new addition to the 3DS/Wii U’s download services won’t be available until March 19.

That’s when Lego City Undercover and Need For Speed: Most Wanted U will make their Wii U debut. That’s also when Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and The Croods: Prehistoric Party! will be released for the Wii U and the 3DS. Next week will also see the release of the next Wii U Virtual Console game, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream, on Wednesday, March 20.

So what’s available today? On the 3DS eShop, there’s Mega Man III, Rayman Origins, and Reel Fishing 3D Paradise; and on the DSiWare Shop there’s Forgotten Legions and Goony.

More details about this week’s new games and next week’s releases can be found after the break. (more…)

Nintendo has announced new release dates for many of the Wii U’s “launch window” games including Lego City: Undercover and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

The Grand Theft Auto-like Lego City: Undercover will be released on March 18 while the monster mash that is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be available a day later on March 19 (a demo will be added to the Wii U eShop on February 21). Sadly, two of the biggest “launch window” games, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Bit.Trip Runner 2, are still without release dates.

Nintendo also took this opportunity to tag the Lego City 3DS spinoff, Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins, with an official release date. Lovers of all things Lego will be able to purchase it on April 21.

Hit the break for a look at the complete Winter/Spring release calendar for all four of Nintendo’s currently active platforms. (more…)

Latest Nintendo Direct dates Fire Emblem: Awakening, Brain Age 3DS, more

Another Nintendo Direct presentation is in the books and, while we didn’t get to see anything new, we did get a good idea on when some of next year’s big 3DS and Wii U titles will be available.

Hosted by Reggie Fils-Aime, the Nintendo of America President revealed that Lego City: Undercover, Game & Wario, and Wii Fit U will all be available in early 2013. They’ll be joined by a Google Maps Street View app, which will be available on the Wii U eShop.

The Big N also reiterated that Pikmin 3 is no longer a “launch window” title and will instead be released in Spring 2013. Also available next Spring will be Wii U Panorama View an entertainment app available exclusively on the Wii U eShop. A demo of the travelogue-like game will be made available to download before its release.

Over on the 3DS side of things, we’ve learned that Fire Emblem: Awakening will be released on February 4 and Brain Age: Concentration Training will be in stores less than a week later, on February 10. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is still scheduled for a Spring 2013 release.

Finally, two 3DS eShop titles were highlighted: Tokyo Crash Mobs, a Bust-A-Move-like game that involves throwing Tokyo residents into a mob of people; and Harmonite, an action platformer from Pokemon developer Game Freak that looks wild.

That’s it from this Nintendo Direct episode. If you want to see it for yourself, the video has been embedded above.

Lego City: Undercover trailer makes it look like GTA for kids

When I was watching the Lego City: Undercover trailer yesterday during Nintendo’s E3 2012 Press Conference, it felt very familiar to me. Obviously, the formula that developer TT Games refined with Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Batman, and Lego Harry Potter was self-evident. But there was something else…

Today it hit me. Lego City: Undercover is basically “Grand Theft Auto: Legoland” and that is quick possibly the coolest realization ever. Watch the trailer above and judge for yourself.

Nintendo @ E3 11: Lego City Stories announced for 3DS, Wii U

After discussing a variety of prototypes of possible Wii U software (including New Super Mario Bros. Wii with a Mii included in the action!), Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime announced the first third party Wii U game: Lego City Stories. Developed by Lego gurus TT Games, Lego City Stories will be an open world Lego game that includes “a whole city full of Lego vehicles.”

No release date was announced, but it’ll be exclusively available for the 3DS and Wii U.
