Grand Theft Auto V is October 2013’s best-selling game
Once again, Grand Theft Auto V reigns supreme. The latest entry in Rockstar’s blockbuster franchise remains atop the NPD Group’s monthly tabulations of the best-selling games at retail.
It’s important to note that GTA5 didn’t pull off this repeat performance against a group of lightweights. The remaining spots in the top ten, all nine of them, were claimed by new releases. You can check out the rest of the top ten right here and, if you gambled that Pokemon X would sell more copies than Pokemon Y, it’s time to collect:
Bestselling Games in October 2013
1. Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360, PS3)
2. Pokemon X (3DS)
3. Pokemon Y (3DS)
4. Battlefield 4 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
5. Batman: Arkham Origins (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, PC)
6. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U)
7. NBA 2K14 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
8. Skylanders Swap Force (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, 3DS)
9. Lego Marvel Super Heroes (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, PC)
10. WWE 2K14 (Xbox 360, PS3)
According to Joystiq, GTA5 wasn’t the only big winner last month. The entire industry had a very profitable four weeks as last month’s software sales were higher than the same period from 2012, making October 2013 the third month in a row to see year-over-year sales gains.
Nintendo Download: Wii Fit U, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Castlevania IV, more
All you health fanatics, get ready, Nintendo will add Wii Fit U to the Wii U eShop tomorrow. The company is billing the title as a “Trial Version” because the free download will expire on December 1. If you want to continue your fitness goals with your Wii U, you’ll have to purchase a Wii Fit U Fit Meter, which will be available in stores (for $19.99) starting tomorrow.
If you’d prefer to spend your Wii U time in a sitting position, Nintendo has added plenty of other games to the eShop as part of this week’s Nintendo Download. Beginning today, the digital version of Lego Marvel Super Heroes can be purchased for the 3DS and the Wii U. The Virtual Console is also alive and well this Halloween with the scary Super Castlevania IV (Wii U) and the spooky Milon’s Secret Castle (3DS).
Beginning next Tuesday, November 5, Nintendo will add the family friendly Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (3DS), Ben 10 Omniverse 2 (3DS, Wii U), and Power Rangers Megaforce (3DS) to their online store.
More details on all of these games (and a few others) can be found after the break. (more…)

Stan Lee is the ultimate power in the universe in this Lego Marvel Super Heroes trailer
Who is the most powerful character in the Marvel universe? Is it Wolverine and his nigh invulnerability? Is it The Hulk and his limitless smashing ability? Or is it the big brain on Reed “Mr. Fantastic” Richards? The answer is actually none of the above. The answer is Stan Lee. Exclesior!
The famed comic book creator will be included in Lego Marvel Super Heroes and, instead of the super cameo powers he displays in the Marvel movieverse, he’s packing a boatload of superpowers of his own. Stan Lee is Wolverine and The Hulk and Reed Richards and many others, all rolled into one. Check out the trailer above and watch as he drops the hammer (sometime quite literally) on the supervillain community in the game.
Lego Marvel Super Heroes will be available for the 3DS, PC, PS3, Vita, Wii U, and Xbox 360 on October 18. A PS4 version will be released on November 15 and an Xbox One edition will follow on November 22.
Say hello to the villains of Lego Marvel Super Heroes
In honor of this year’s Gamescom expo, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a new trailer for Lego Marvel Super Heroes. In addition to confirming the game will also appear on the PS4 and Xbox One this Fall, the developers at TT Games have given us our first look at some of the game’s many villains. They include (deep breath)…
Dr. Doom, Doctor Octopus, Magneto, Sandman, Arnim Zola, Green Goblin, Sabretooth, Abomination, Loki, Mystique, and Galactus. There’s also blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpses of Cyclops, Storm, and the Silver Surfer.
Unless I missed him, I’m still holding out for Lego Blade. But I love that we’re getting Lego Punisher, even if he wasn’t in this trailer.
TT Games adds Venom, Human Torch to Lego Marvel Super Heroes
When WB Games first announced Lego Marvel Super Heroes, they confirmed that the game would include over 100 playable characters. So far, that list includes big names like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Deadpool. But two more were added to the game’s roster this weekend at the London MCM Expo.
According to a tweet from TT Games’ Joe Moore, Venom and the Human Torch will both be playable in Lego Marvel Super Heroes. With (at least) 88 more names to come, we can probably expect more of these announcements between now and the game’s release this fall on the 3DS, DS, PC, PS3, Vita, Wii U, and Xbox 360.
I’m holding out hope for Lego Blade myself.
