Nintendo scored both the best-selling game (Mario Tennis Aces) and console (NES Classic) of June 2018

Nintendo can lay claim to the top-selling console in June 2018… but it wasn’t the Nintendo Switch. Instead, it looks like the relaunched NES Classic was the month’s best-selling console.

However, that’s not to say that the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch (as well as the Super NES Classic and 3DS) were slouching. According to the NPD Group (via GamesIndustry.biz), the three major consoles, both of Nintendo’s retro microconsoles, and the 3DS created a 52% increase in overall hardware sales versus June 2017.

All told, the game industry tallied $1.1 billion in sales in June, which was good for a 25% year-over-year increase.

June is typically a slow month for new releases, and that was reflected in the NPD’s companion report on best-selling games. Mario Tennis Aces was the top-selling game during the month, with The Crew 2 (#4), and Lego The Incredibles (#7) also breaking into the top ten. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy‘s debut on the PC, Switch, and Xbox One also helped it re-enter the list at #9.

A quick rundown of the remainder of June 2018’s best-selling games can be found after the break. (more…)

Jurassic World: Evolution, Super Bomberman R, Lego The Incredibles, more coming to Xbox Store this week

It’s E3 Week, but if you want to take some time out from gawking at what comes next, you can take a look at what’s available now. And that includes the four new games that were added to the Xbox Games Store this week…

Frontier Developments’s Jurassic World: Evolution… uh… finds a way to the Xbox One this week. Players are tasked with building the best dinosaur-themed amusement park they can, but they’ve also got to make sure the guests don’t get eaten. Thankfully, Jeff Goldblum, Bryce Dallas Howard, and B.D. Wong are around to offer advice (though I’m not sure I’d trust Dr. Wu).

Also available this week is Lego The Incredibles, the latest “Lego-ization” of a popular film series from WB Games and TT Games. Two players will battle supervillains from The Incredibles and Incredibles 2 in “action-packed” story levels and an “epic” hub world.

And speaking of epic, Konami will bring Super Bomberman R to the Xbox One this week and players will be able to play as Bomber Master Chief in the game’s multiplayer mode.

Finally this week, Omega Strike is a new a MetroidVania-style game for the Xbox One where players will have to overcome deadly enemies and learn new abilities to survive.

You can learn more about all of these games after the break. (more…)

Jurassic World: Evolution, Super Bomberman R, Lego The Incredibles, more coming to PS Store this week

It’s E3 Week, but if you want to take some time out from gawking at what comes next, you can take a look at what’s available now. This week, the following games were added to the PlayStation Store…

WB Games and TT Games are back with the next Lego game, Lego The Incredibles (PS4). Based on both Incredibles movies, two players will be able to team up and bring the supervillains to justice. Also available to download this week is Jurassic World: Evolution (PS4), a theme park builder with dinosaurs… and the soothing voice of Jeff Goldblum (and several other Jurassic Park alums).

Konami’s Super Bomberman R will bring the celebrated franchise to the PS4 for the first time, and Betehsda launched the free-to-play Fallout Shelter on the PS4 earlier this week.

You can learn more about the rest of this week’s additions to the PlayStation Store after the break. (more…)

New Retail Releases: Lego The Incredibles, Super Bomberman R, Yonder, Moss

The 2018 E3 Expo is almost upon us, and once again, game publishers are mostly taking the week off to hobnob down in Los Angeles. But a few brave souls are taking the plunge…

Things come together in an incredible way this week for Lego The Incredibles, which will be released for the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Players will be able to relive their favorite moments from the first film, as well as the upcoming The Incredibles 2 in WB Games’s latest Lego-ized adventure.

More supervillains will need to be vanquished in Super Bomberman R, which comes to the PS4 and Xbox One this week after debuting exclusively on the Switch in 2017. The new “Shiny Edition” will include the single-player Story Mode, as well as Battle Mode (offering both local and online play), and a brand new cooperative Grand Prix Mode.

Elsewhere in your local game shop this week, you’ll be able to spot new retail editions of Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles, an adventure game for the Switch, and Moss, a PSVR-powered action-adventure.

That’s it for this week’s New Retail Releases… so sit back and enjoy the rest of the E3 Expo!

WB Games officially announces Lego The Incredibles

After a leak earlier this month, it looks like WB Games and TT Games are ready to officially announce Lego The Incredibles.

The action-adventure game will include scenes from both The Incredibles and the upcoming Incredibles 2, and according to WB Games, “players [will] work together by combining the Parr family’s abilities and unique powers to conquer crime and family life.” Like all Lego games, Lego The Incredible will also include drop-in/drop-out multiplayer for up to two players.

“The Incredibles franchise, full of super-powered characters, adventures and teamwork, combined with all of the humor, puzzle-solving elements and unexpected surprises of LEGO games makes for the perfect combination for players,” said Tom Stone, the Managing Director of TT Games. “With Lego The Incredibles, fans can experience the non-stop action from both movies while fighting crime together as a super hero family.”

Lego The Incredibles will be released for the PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One on June 15 (the same day the movie opens in theaters). The “Announce Trailer” has been embedded above.

Lego The Incredibles game teased by Lego

It looks like Lego The Incredibles will be coming to the PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One later this year.

The news comes via Lego fansite The Brick Fan, who spotted an advertisement for the game on the back of the instruction booklet included with an upcoming Lego set based on The Incredibles 2.

It’s unknown if Lego The Incredibles will pull its story solely from the upcoming sequel or both movies in the series, but we do know that TT Games has once again been tapped to develop the Lego-ized adaptation.

I’d guess an official announcement from WB Games will be happening soon.
