Electronic Arts will display a dozen games during E3 2015 Press Conference
Sports! Sports! Sports!
When you think of sports video games, you think of Electronic Arts (or, more specifically, EA Sports). The powerhouse publisher loves sports so much that they plan to feature five athletic adaptations (FIFA 16, Madden NFL 16, NBA Live 16, NHL 16, and Rory Mcllroy PGA Tour) at the 2015 E3 Expo. However, the company’s E3 Press Conference will have plenty of other non-sports games on display, including Star Wars: Battlefront, Need For Speed, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and the world premiere of Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst. But wait… there’s still more. The publisher plans to showcase “a dozen” games during their Press Conference, which means an additional three games will be have to be announced on stage. That said, we have a pretty good idea what EA’s internal studios are working on…
- Visceral is developing another Star Wars game, possibly starring Han Solo.
- Criterion is experimenting with some kind of wild transportation game.
- PopCap is making a “bigger and bolder” Plants vs Zombies game for consoles.
- BioWare is developing a Mass Effect game with a “MASSIVE” single-player campaign.
- And DICE is hard at work on Battlefield 5, which will launch in Fall 2016.
It’s likely that all of these titles will get at least a cursory mention during EA’s E3 Press Conference. And you can watch the presentation in the comfort of your own home as EA plans to broadcast the Press Conference live at LiveToPlay.EA.com on Monday, June 15 at 4:00 PM (Eastern Time). More details about all of this year’s previously-announced titles can be found after the break. (more…)
Odell Beckham wins Madden NFL 16 Cover Vote… and here’s a “First Look” trailer
The one-day Madden NFL 16 Cover Vote is over and New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham has emerged victorious New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. Beckham won in a very close vote (53% to 47%, according to ESPN.com/MaddenVote), perhaps due to lingering anger over “Deflategate.” Or perhaps “Deflategate” is the dumbest sports controversy in years and it had nothing to do with the vote. Yeah, I’m going with the latter.
“Odell Beckham Jr. is a true playmaker and a perfect fit for this year’s game,” said Randy Chase, Senior Director of Marketing for EA Sports. “He’s an unstoppable force out on the field, and the Madden NFL 16 cover is further vindication that the fans believe he’s a player to watch in the coming years.”
As always, Madden NFL 16 is in development at EA Tiburon and it’ll be released for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360 on August 25. You can check out a “First Look” trailer embedded above, but it is a very early look at the game, so don’t expect much insight into what this year’s Madden will look like.
Gronk and Odell Beckham are the finalists for the Madden NFL 16 cover… vote now!
The preliminary round voting for the Madden NFL 16 Cover Athlete is over, which means its the end of the line for two of the four semi-finalists. The Internet has spoken and Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown and Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson won’t be part of today’s online vote.
Instead, fans are encouraged to head to ESPN.com/MaddenVote to cast their lot behind Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski or Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham. The polls are open all day and the winner will be announced during the 6:00 PM (Eastern Time) edition of SportsCenter.
Voting will surely be close as Gronk’s got a shiny new Super Bowl ring, but Beckham is the owner of the most ridiculous catch in NFL history.
Vote: Patrick Peterson, Odell Beckham, Gronk, or Antonio Brown for Madden NFL 16 cover
In years past, EA Sports has used the Madden NFL Cover Vote to pit dozens of professional football players against each other to decide who deserves the right to be represent the game on store shelves. This year, only four players will duke it out in a shortened contest that will be completed by next Wednesday.
The voting procedure has also been considerably revamped this year as only owners of Madden NFL Mobile and Madden NFL 15 will be able to cast a vote in the semifinal round. Voting starts today and will end on Monday, May 11 at 3:00 AM (Eastern Time). Players can earn up to five votes per day, and the two highest vote-getters will go head-to-head in an ESPN.com poll on May 13. Full details on the voting rules are available at the official Madden site.
So who’s in the running for the Madden NFL 16 cover? Glad you asked…
- Odell Beckham Jr. (WR) – New York Giants
- Antonio Brown (WR) – Pittsburgh Steelers
- Rob Gronkowski (TE) – New England Patriots
- Patrick Peterson (CB) – Arizona Cardinals
Which man has your vote? Does Odell Beckham’s catch still make you gasp? Is Antonio Brown’s 2014 offensive line still impressive? Is you reaction to Patrick Peterson something other than “Who?” Or are you still charmed by Rob Gronkowski’s Mortal Kombat X prowess?
Madden NFL 16 will be released on August 25
We don’t know who will grace Madden NFL 16‘s cover yet, but we do when it’ll be released. EA Sports has announced, via the publisher’s “The Beat” blog, that the game will be released in its typical end-of-Summer spot on August 25. No platforms were confirmed, but a PS4/Xbox One launch is a surety and a PS3/Xbox 360 release seems likely.
EA also promised that more information on Madden NFL 16 will be unveiled in May.
