New Releases: Madden NFL 25, Final Fantasy XIV, Lost Planet 3, More
Are you ready for some football? EA Sports’ annual gridiron game, Madden NFL 25, is in stores for the PS3 and Xbox 360 this week. A next generation version for the PS4 and Xbox One will be available in November.
“Made in Japan” is the theme for the rest of this week’s releases as Square Enix will bring their rebuilt MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn to the PC and, for the first time, the PS3. The psychotically-minded Suda 51 also has a new game this week as XSEED Games will publish his Killer Is Dead for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Finally, Capcom is bringing back the Lost Planet series in Lost Planet 3 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
More new releases can be found after the break. (more…)
Madden NFL 25 brings together the the best players of the last 25 years with All-25 Team
Boom! John Madden will return to the sidelines of an NFL game next month in Madden NFL 25. The bombastic coach (and turducken fan) will manage the All-25 Team, a collection of the best players of the last 25 years.
EA Sports plans to unveil the All-25 Team over the next two weeks on the official Madden website. So far, only two players have been revealed as part of the All-25 Team: running back Marshall Faulk (formerly of the St. Louis Rams) and fullback Mike Alstott (formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers).
Madden NFL 25 will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 27. The All-25 Team will also strut their stuff on the PS4 sometime this Fall and on the Xbox One this November.
EA will release The Sims 4 in early 2014; 10 other titles planned for 2013/2014 release
EA announced earlier this week that The Sims 4 would be released sometime next year. Yesterday, company President Frank Gibeau confirmed that the next entry in the popular franchise will be available for the PC and Mac in early 2014.
The Sims 4 will be joined by ten other titles in EA’s “fiscal 2014” lineup. All of these games will be in stores before March 31, 2014, but most are already on the schedule for 2013:
- Fuse (May 28)
- NCAA Football 14 (July 9)
- Madden NFL 25 (August 27)
- NHL 14 (September 10)
- FIFA Soccer 14 (September)
- FIFA Manager 14 (October)
- Battlefield 4 (Fall)
They’ll be joined by the free-to-play Command & Conquer (which is expected to be released sometime in 2013), the next Need For Speed game (NFS games are typically released in the Fall), and NBA Live 14. Many of these titles were also confirmed for release on the PS4 and the Xbox 720/Durango during the same briefing.
EA to reveal next-gen games from BioWare, DICE, Need For Speed, NBA Live at E3 2013
For more than a decade, Electronic Arts has greeted the launch of a new console from Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft with a huge lineup of new games. This Fall’s release of the PlayStation 4 and (presumably) the Xbox 720/Durango will be no exception.
Speaking at the company’s quarterly financial briefing yesterday, EA President Frank Gibeau announced that the publisher will release multiple games that are “breakthroughs in graphics and gameplay for some of our biggest franchises” on the PS4 and Xbox 720 this year. Gibeau specifically confirmed that Madden [NFL 25], FIFA [Soccer 14], Battlefield [4], and a new game in the Need For Speed series will be available this year.
All four of these titles will make their worldwide debut at this year’s E3 Expo along with new next-generation games from BioWare, DICE, and the EA Sports group. A smattering of “brand new games” will round out the comapny’s next-generation announcements at E3.
The 2013 E3 Expo begins on June 11.
Barry Sanders is your Madden NFL 25 cover athlete
The votes have been tallied and the fans have spoken… Barry Sanders, former running back for the Detroid Lions, has been chosen as the cover athlete for Madden NFL 25. The Hall of Famer absolutely destroyed his competition, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, and collected 58% of the vote.
In all, 700,241 votes were cast in the final round and more than 40,000,000 were cast throughout the entire tournament. It was an uphill climb for most of the “New School” players and even a final round matchup featuring today’s top running back felt like a lost cause. Of course, that’s what happens when you go up against the greatest running back of all time.
To celebrate the choosing of this year’s cover athlete, EA Sports has released the first Madden NFL 25 gameplay trailer, which you can find after the break. Nadden NFL 25 will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 27. (more…)
Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote: Barry Sanders vs Adrian Peterson
Barry Sanders, a man who needs no introduction, squares off against Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings in the final round of the Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote.
Sanders played his entire career with the Detroit Lions and retired in 1999 as one of the greatest running backs of all time. He previously appeared on the cover of Madden NFL 2000 as well as All-Pro Football 2K8. Some say Sanders’ retirement mere weeks before he became the first player to appear on the cover of a Madden NFL game was the impetus of the infamous “Madden Curse.” Up to that point, only John Madden had been pictured on the game’s cover.
Peterson, nicknamed “All Day” for his ability to running prowess, holds the record for most rushing yards in a single game (296). He joined the exclusive “2,000 Yard Club” last season on the way to the NFL MVP Award.
So who’s it going to be? Cast your vote now at ESPN.com/MaddenVote. The winner will be announced on ESPN2’s SportsNation on Wednesday, April 24 at 8 PM (Eastern Time).
Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Arian Foster, Adrian Peterson advance in Madden 25 Cover Vote
Down goes Deion! Down goes Deion!
The man with 47 nicknames has been bounced from the Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote by Jerry Rice, the greatest wide receiver of all time. I guess if you’re going to lose, there’s no shame in losing to someone like Jerry Rice (who, if you recall, had to earn his spot in the Cover Vote). The remainder of the quarterfinals included a Barry Sanders win over Joe Montana and victories by Arian Foster (over Russell Wilson) and Adrian Peterson (over Robert Griffin III).
So the final “Old School” matchup features Jerry Rice (#1) vs Barry Sanders (#3) and the final “New School” matchup will be Adrian Peterson (#2) vs Arian Foster (#4). Be sure to get your votes for the semifinals in today at ESPN.com/MaddenVote. Voting is open now through April 17.
Madden NFL 25 will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 27.
