PlayStation Store update for 1/18/11 brings Mass Effect 2 to the PSN
This week’s PlayStation store update brings a ton of great content, most notable of which is the digital version of Mass Effect 2. Coming in at 12GB, the game is accompanied by a load of free and priced downloadable content, as well as a free game trial for PSN Plus Subscribers. Other notable releases include Modern Combat: Domination at a reasonable $7.99 (with a demo if the low price point isn’t enough for you to give it a shot) and a handful of Neo Geo games now available on PSP, including Alpha Mission II and The King of Fighters ’94. New Releases: LittleBigPlanet 2, Mass Effect 2, Mindjack, More
What this week’s new releases lacks in quantity, it makes up for it in quality.
Sony’s second Sackboy adventure on the PS3, LitleBigPlanet 2, will be released this week. The sequel will add even more level creation options as well as include an expanded single-player campaign.
As PS3 owners get their second crack at Sackboy, they’ll get their first chance to experience BioWare’s Mass Effect series with a PS3 port of Mass Effect 2. Sticking with the science fiction theme, Square Enix will be bringing their body-hopping shooter Mindjack to the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Finally, PopCap Games has shrunk down Plants vs Zombies for a DS release.

Mass Effect 2 PS3 re-hash looks to be ‘massively effective’
Anticipation is rising as BioWare’s highly-acclaimed Mass Effect 2 blasts its way over to the Playstation 3 next week, promising a visual successor to the Xbox 360’s version which was released early last year. Fueling the hype is the game’s launch trailer, which you can view above. And through a limited time offer, BioWare’s PS3 customers will be able to download Terminus Gear for free on the PlayStation Network. The free gear download increases in-game stats for players, offering a bonus to (possible) second-time buyers of the game.
For those who haven’t been filled in on Commander Shepard’s excursion from exclusivity, the upcoming PlayStation 3 version will be fully loaded with story content from the first Mass Effect game, with the help of Dark Horse Comics’ illustration skills. Though the first Mass Effect is not included with Mass Effect 2, the comic aims to flesh out all important story details from the first game, fully gearing players for the Q4 2011 multiplatform release of Mass Effect 3.

Limbo, Red Dead Redemption lead 2011 Game Developers Choice nominees
The nominees for the 2011 Game Developers Choice Awards, which will be handed out on March 2 during the Game Developers Conference, have been announced.
The monochromatic XBLA puzzle-platformer Limbo took seven nominations, more than any other game. But Rockstar’s cowboy opus Red Dead Redeption was close behind with six while BioWare’s Mass Effect 2 received five.
Other big nominees include God of War III, Heavy Rain and Minecraft, all of which received three nominations. Minecraft’s inclusion among the nominees marks the first time a game has received a GDC Award nomination and was selected as a finalist in the Independent Games Festival.

Warp Zoned Podcast: Episode 1
In Warp Zoned’s inaugural podcast, Mike Gutierrez, Nicole Kline, and Ryan Littlefield wax poetical about… what else? Video games. Broadcasting to you from the most secluded parts of their houses, they give Warp Zoned’s intentions with your daughter for the future, talk about games they got for Christmas and games they want to pick up on the cheap, what they’ve been playing lately, and, perhaps most importantly, what is coming out in January.
