New Releases: Mass Effect 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, MLB 2K12/MLB 12, More
It’s here. It’s finally here. The grand finale of the Mass Effect trilogy, Mass Effect 3, will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 6. It’s been a long wait (made longer by EA’s decision to delay the game from its original Fall 2011 release date), but it’s almost over.
However, other companies aren’t backing down from the juggernaut that is Commander Shepard…
- Capcom is bowing their 2D crossover fighter Street Fighter X Tekken (PS3, Xbox 360).
- A twin bill of baseball games will be available including Sony’s MLB 12: The Show (PS3, Vita) and 2K’s more inclusive Major League Baseball 2K12 (DS, PC, PS2 (!), PS3, PSP (!!), Wii, Xbox 360).
- Namco Bandai is bringing back the Ridge Racer series in Ridge Racer Unbounded (PS3, Xbox 360), a title that has really managed to stay under the radar.
- Zipper Interactive (creator of the SOCOM series) will make their Vita debut with Unit 13.
- And Nintendo wants everyone to do the Mario one more time on the Wii with Mario Party 9.
Even EA isn’t afraid to compete against itself, as the publisher plans to ship The Sims 3: Showtime for the PC this week in both a Limited Edition and a Katy Perry Special Edition (scandalized muppets not included).
Believe it or not, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are even more new releases after the break. (more…)
Mass Effect 3 Hands-On Preview: Big Damn Heroes
Commander Shepard is coming back to finish the fight! Wait, that’s from another game. Regardless, s/he is returning in the final installment of the epic Mass Effect trilogy, looking to kick Reaper butt, save Earth, and maybe get a little alien snoo-snoo on the side. To help facilitate excitement for the March 6 release, BioWare and Electronic Arts have put out a demo to get fans hungry for the third act of this space opera. Is it more unbridled, space-faring fun? Or will it make you want to punch a reporter in the face? (more…)
Mass Effect 3 goes live action with new “Fight” trailer
BioWare has released another trailer for Mass Effect 3, but this one’s different… it’s live action! If you watched last night’s episode of “The Walking Dead,” you’ve already seen it. But if not, prepare to fight and “Take Earth Back” by watching the above video.
Mass Effect 3 will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 6. But you knew that already.
Mass Effect 3 unboxing video features reversible FemShep cover
Your typical unboxing video usually features a nifty special edition packed with goodies. But BioWare chose to go a different route with their Mass Effect 3 unboxing, focusing on the standard edition instead. But towards the end they reveal a goodie nonetheless: a reversible cover featuring FemShep!
If this is what makes you resolve to buy Mass Effect 3, you can do so on the PC, PS3, or Xbox 360 on March 6.
Razer making Mass Effect 3 accessories
Razer has teamed up with BioWare to make some sleek, fancy peripherals for Mass Effect 3. These drool-worthy accessories include:
- Razer Imperator gaming mouse
- Razer Vespula dual-sided gaming mouse mat
- Razer BlackWidow Ultimate gaming keyboard
- Razer Onza Tournament Edition Xbox 360 controller
- Razer Chimaera Xbox 360 gaming headset
Plan on playing Mass Effect 3 on the PlayStation 3? Womp womp. No accessories for you. There will also be an iPhone case and a messenger bag for sale as well. (If you’re me, then you’re doubly screwed: I’ve got a PS3 and an Android phone!)
Mass Effect 3 peripherals are currently available for pre-order at the Razer store. The game is due out on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
Mass Effect 3 demo is now available on PC, PS3, Xbox 360
Did you spend Valentine’s Day with the one you love? Well, if you one you love is FemShep, then the answer is surely “yes.”
That’s right, as of 9:00 PM (Eastern Time) last night the demo for Mass Effect 3 is now available to download for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 owners. PC users will have to use EA’s Origin service to get the demo while PS3 and Xbox 360 users can just use their system of choice’s built-in online store.
But that’s not all, EA and BioWare will open up the multiplayer portion of the demo starting on February 17. However, players who have purchased Battlefield 3 can battle it out with other Shepards online right now. And if you grab the demo on your Xbox 360, you’ll get free Xbox Live Gold access for the next three weeks and a chance to try out the game’s Kinect features. There’s definitely something for everyone here!
The full version of Mass Effect 3 will be available in stores (and on Origin) March 6.
BioWare planning more Mass Effect after ME3
In a move surprising to no one, producer Casey Hudson expresses certainty that there will be more Mass Effect even after the trilogy ends on March 6 with Mass Effect 3.
Hudson – who said they’re too busy to feel sad right now – expressed that he thinks this third chapter is going to be the best in the series, according to Computer and Video Games.
Hudson said, “We had ambitious goals, but to make a whole series that spans recessions, BioWare’s independence, different publishers… Well, we did it in the end… We don’t know exactly [what happens next], but there will be more Mass Effect for Mass Effect fans, I’m sure.”
This is interesting – but unsurprising – news, especially on the tail of Mike Gamble’s announcement for fans to hold onto their Mass Effect 3 saves. Not for any reason, you know. Just in case. You digital hoarders you.
