It has been nine long years since Max Payne last graced our game consoles and PC monitors. That’s nearly two lifetimes in the video game world. But all that changes next week when Rockstar releases Max Payne 3 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Yup, Max is back, and he’s got the launch trailer to prove it.
So check out the trailer above and if you’re holding out for the PC version, remember that it launches on May 29.
Rockstar announces multiplayer DLC plans for Max Payne 3
Today, Rockstar announced a bunch of multiplayer DLC for Max Payne 3 that will be made available in the coming months, and a “Rockstar Pass” that can be preordered now through Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network.
The first available DLC will be the The Local Justice Map Pack, which is coming in June, and will include the Police Precinct map for Gang Wars, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Payne Killer modes. It will also have two additional maps for Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Payne Killer, new avatar items, multiplayer challenges, and more.
Packs that will be available this summer, but whose dates have yet to be announced, are the Disorganized Crime Map Pack, Deathmatch Made In Heaven Mode Pack, Hostage Negotiation Map Pack, and the New York Minute Co-Op Pack.
The Painful Memories Map Pack and Trickle Down Economics Map Pack will be available in the Fall.
The Rockstar Pass will set you back 2400 Microsoft Points or $29.99 on the PlayStation Network or PC, and will get you access to all available content at a 35% discount compared to buying the packs separately.

Rockstar reveals cover for first issue of Max Payne 3 comic
Max Payne is drunk and he just shot somebody and left them to die in the street. Welcome back to Max’s world and welcome to the cover of “Max Payne 3: After the Fall,” a three-issue limited series comic created by Marvel and Rockstar Games.
Issue #1 of “After the Fall” is written by Rockstar’s Dan Houser (he also wrote the story for the game) and Remedy’s Sam Lake. The cover art was created by Greg Horn with pencils and inks by Fernando Blanco. The series will “[feature] characters from all three Max Payne games as the series weaves together events from various points in Max’s life.”
“After the Fall” will be available as a free digital download through the Rockstar Newswire and on the Max Payne 3 official site this Thursday, May 3. A “limited run” of print copies will be also available later in the month.
Max Payne 3 will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on May 15.

A fresh storyline, intuitive gameplay features, and vibrant graphics make this a game you won’t want to miss. (more…)
Rockstar takes gang warfare to the next level with “Crews” in Max Payne 3, GTA 5
Rockstar has announced a new feature for their Rockstar Games Social Club platform that’ll make its debut in Max Payne 3: Crews.
Crews are sort of like clans, except that they’ll exist outside of any individual game. Players will be able to join a Crew in Max Payne 3’s multiplayer mode and they’ll still be a member of that same Crew when future Rockstar games like Grand Theft Auto V, and other “appropriate titles,” are released.
In an interview with IGN, Rockstar’s Vice President of Creativity, Dan Houser, laid down some details on what you’ll be able to do with Crews:
How will Crews be able to interact?
Houser: One major way will be with Feuds. In multiplayer games we have a feature called Vendettas – if someone kills you twice, you can initiate a vendetta against them, which lets everyone know that you’re out to get that person. For you, a special X marks their blip when they’re visible to you on the map. If you take that person down, you get extra XP. If they survive your vendetta though, they get that XP.
Crew Feuds are essentially Crew Vendettas: impromptu skirmishes between crews that can spring up in multiplayer matches that quickly spawn a first-to-10-kills battle. You can be playing any team-based game with a completely new set of players, but if you spot two or more members of a crew you’re feuding with on the opposite team, any kills you get against them will count to the overall feud so rivalries will spring up automatically – and when they do, you’ll be notified and the grudge will come to the forefront of the game.
We’ll track who you’re feuding with, how long you’ve been feuding, and who’s winning. You’ll get extra XP for taking down members of crews you’re feuding with, so you’ll be able to remember those grudges for future matches. Again, we want to create more drama out of the interactions that go down in typical multiplayer matches.
And the beauty of this system is that crews persist over time and across future games. Multiplayer is an ever-more important part of all our games moving forward, and by creating crews through Social Club the crews that you create in Max Payne 3 will be ready and available for you to play in Grand Theft Auto V from day one. It’s all part of our larger approach to make multiplayer deeper and richer than what’s currently available, much more easily accessible to the newcomer and rewarding for the hardcore.
Whoa. Why didn’t anybody think of this before? Max Payne 3 will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on May 15 with the PC version following on May 29.
Max Payne 3 trailer #2 has a lot of grit
Max Payne is back in this new trailer for Max Payne 3, which is made from in-game footage, if you can believe it. It looks gritty, badass, and realistic. You can practically smell the alcohol on Payne’s breath. Great job, Rockstar.
Max Payne 3 will be on May 15 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and May 29 on PC.
Max Payne 3 shoots up Sao Paolo on May 15
After years of false starts, delays, and possible cancellation, Rockstar Games has announced that, after one more delay, Max Payne 3 will be available in stores (for the PS3 and Xbox 360) on May 15 (May 18 for countries outside of North America)! PC gamers will have to wait until May 29 (June 1 for countries outside of North America) to get their hands on Max’s next case.
“Max Payne 3 brings powerful storytelling back to the action-shooter genre,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “Rockstar Studios are delivering a game that’s both incredibly cinematic and very, very intense to play.”
Max Payne 3 takes the titular anti-hero outside his New York City home and drops him in the sunny landscape of Sao Paolo, Brazil. There, he works as a bodyguard for Rodrigo Branco, a wealthy executive. But trouble finds Max wherever he goes when Branco’s wife is kidnapped and Max is tasked with finding her.
In addition to the game’s new locale, Max Payne 3 will also add a multiplayer component to the series for the first time.
