Mega Man Legacy Collection retail edition will launch on February 23; 3DS Collector’s Edition will include Gold Amiibo figure
Capcom has announced we’ll all get the chance to rebuy the Mega Man games one more time as the Mega Man Legacy Collection retail edition will be released for the 3DS, PS4, and Xbox One on February 23, 2016. The Mega Man Legacy Collection Standard Edition for the 3DS, PS4, and Xbox One will include all six NES-era Mega Man games on a single disc/card, as well as a Robot Masters Cheat Sheet, a soundtrack CD containing 18 songs and four stickers.
But wait! There’s more! 3DS owners will get the chance to pick up a 3DS-exclusive Collector’s Edition, which will come packed with plenty of bonus goodies. In addition to including everything from the Standard Edition, the Collector’s Edition will include six Mega Man Postcards, 11 new Challenges in the Challenge Mode, more than 100 new items in Museum Mode, and a beautiful gold-colored Mega Man Amiibo figure. 3DS owners who opt for the Standard Edition or the digital download will also receive access to the new Challenges and Museum items, which will be unlockable with a regular Mega Man Amiibo figure as well.
If none of these bonus items appeal to you, the Mega Man Legacy Collection is currently available to download on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
NY Comic-Con 2015 attendees will get to play Capcom’s Umbrella Corps, Street Fighter V, Resident Evil 0, Mega Man Legacy Collection
Capcom has announced that they will offer four playable demos at their New York Comic-Con booth (#1420) this weekend.
NYCC attendees will be the first folks in North America to get a chance to try out Umbrella Corps, a Resident Evil-themed team shooter that was first revealed at last month’s Tokyo Game Show. And speaking of Capcom’s undead franchise, a demo of Resident Evil 0 will also be available. Both games are scheduled to be released early next year.
If you’re looking for new announcements, look no further than Street Fighter V. Capcom will offer a playable demo of the fighting game on the show floor and the publisher is strongly hinting that Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono will reveal another new challenger over the weekend. Finally, the currently-available Mega Man Legacy Collection will also be available to try out in all its retro glory.
Capcom will also host a pair of panels this weekend including a “World of Capcom” panel on Thursday, October 8 and a Street Fighter V panel on Saturday, October 10.
More details on all four playable demos can be found after the break. (more…)
Xbox Store Today: Madden NFL 16, Gears of War Ultimate, Mega Man Legacy, more
Microsoft’s Summer Spotlight comes to an end this week as the Xbox Games Store adds eight new titles to its digital shelves.
This week’s biggest release is definitely Madden NFL 16 for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. The latest rendition of EA’s popular football franchise focuses on the passing game and even features Odell Beckham’s wild catch on the cover. But a trio of classic games are also being re-released on the Xbox One this week and many gamers are no doubt looking forward to playing them again…
- Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is a remake of one of the Xbox 360’s signature shooters and brings us back to the beginnings of the war with the Locust Horde.
- Capcom’s Mega Man Legacy Collection compiles the first six Mega Man games into a single package alongside a brand new Challenge Mode and an extensive collection of trivia and concept art.
- Finally, Dishonored: Definitive Edition upgrades Corvo’s stealthy mission of revenge while including all of the game’s downloadable content.
Information on all of these games and several other new releases (including Goat Simulator: Mmmore Goatz Edition and Don’t Starve: Giant Edition) can be found after the break. (more…)
PS Store Today: Madden NFL 16, Until Dawn, Mega Man Legacy Collection, more
Are you ready to run screaming into the woods, terrified for your life because some horrible creature is chasing you? Don’t worry, I’m sure you can bring your PS4 with you. And I don’t think blood will harm the disc drive. Thankfully, if that does happen, you can still play Sony’s slasher simulator, Until Dawn, as its available to download from the PlayStation Store today.
It’s joined this week by the release of…
- Madden NFL 16 (PS3, PS4), EA’s latest pigskin package.
- Mega Man Legacy Collection (PS4), a Capcom-published compilation of the first six Mega Man games.
- Dishonored: Definitive Edition (PS4), a new-gen remake of the well-liked stealth game.
- SteinsGate (PS3, Vita), a console/handheld rendition of the groundbreaking visual novel.
- One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 (PS3, PS4, Vita), the latest game based on the popular anime from Bandai Namco.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. And don’t forget to visit the PlayStation Blog for a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons and discounts. (more…)
Mega Man Legacy Collection Review: A Potent Mixture of Retro Perfection
The Mega Man series is built on patterns. Every time out, a robotic warrior clad in blue battles eight “Robot Masters” in an order chosen by the player. As he pushes through the game, Mega Man acquires an arsenal of new weapons from the vanquished Robot Masters. And after defeating all of them, he challenges the evil Dr. Wily in a fiendishly hard multi-leveled fortress. After delivering the final blow (usually with the game’s worst weapon), Mega Man rides off into the sunset, ready to return if the world needs him again.
I know these patterns. I first learned them in 1987 with the release of Mega Man for the NES, and I received a refresher course roughly every year thereafter thanks to the five sequels that followed. Through trial and error (and believe me, there were many, many trials), I eventually learned how to traverse each game’s set of levels with near flawless accuracy.
After ignoring the series for several years, Capcom decided to compile the first six entries into the recently released Mega Man Legacy Collection. I still know the patterns, but even two decades removed from their original release, the games included in the Mega Man Legacy Collection hold up in a way that few do. (more…)
Mega Man Legacy Collection to be released on August 25; Physical Version coming early 2016
Have you been eagerly awaiting more news the Mega Man Legacy Collection since it was announced during this year’s E3 Expo? Well today’s the day, because Capcom has confirmed the compilation will be available for download on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on August 25. Sadly, the 3DS version of the game won’t be available to download until sometime in early 2016.
Capcom also announced that the Mega Man Legacy Collection will be available in a special physical version for the 3DS, PS4, and Xbox One in early 2016. Priced at $29.99 (twice the digital download’s $14.99 price tag), more details on the physical version will be announced at a later date.
Both versions of the Mega Man Legacy Collection will include all six Mega Man games originally released on the NES. A Challenge Mode (with “remixed gameplay sections”), a Music Player, and an extensive collection of vintage production documents will also be included.
It looks gamers interested in the Mega Man Legacy Collection will have to weigh their options very carefully. You can buy the compilation in about three weeks for a lower price, but you’ll never actually “own” it. Or you can wait and pay double the price, but you’ll receive a shiny disc in return that will better preserve the legacy of the first six Mega Man games.
Check out 45 minutes of gameplay from Mega Man Legacy Collection right here
Do you love the Mega Man franchise? And do you have 45 minutes to spare? If you answered yes to both of these questions, I think you should check out the Mega Man Legacy Collection video embedded above.
Hosted by Greg “GregaMan” Moore and Brett “Minish Capcom” Elston of the Capcom-Unity blog, the video dives deep into the compilation and explores the brand new Challenge Mode, as well the Museum Mode, which includes a very extensive collection of Mega Man arcana.
The Mega Man Legacy Collection will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this Summer. A 3DS version will follow this Fall.
Mega Man Legacy Collection art contest launched by Capcom
Here’s something that might interest you if you’re an artist. Capcom is holding an art contest as part of their promotional efforts for Mega Man Legacy Collection. They’re asking fans to re-imagine the covers of the first six Mega Man games for a chance to win a copy of the upcoming compilation. The contest runs until August 14th, and you can find all the details at the Capcom-Unity blog.
With all the great Mega Man fan art online, I’m sure this is going to be a tough challenge. At the very least, I’m sure a lot of the drawings will be better than the original Mega Man cover. But who knows, this is the Internet we’re talking about.
Alternatively, you could go online and pick up the Mega Man Anniversary Collection on Amazon for around $10. Granted it’s not free, but it does come with Mega Man 7, Mega Man 8, and two games that were never released in the US. That’s more than you can say for the Legacy Collection, which only goes up to Mega Man 6 (though it does include HD visuals and a Challenge Mode). Not to mention Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 that came out after the Anniversary Collection.
But hey, winning a competition and getting free stuff is always great. Even if the thing you win is inferior to a product released 10 years ago.
