New Retail Releases: Crackdown 3, Far Cry: New Dawn, Metro Exodus, More
It’s time once again for some big new sequels as a few of gaming’s biggest franchises will receive new installments this week.
After several very long years in development, Microsoft will bring Crackdown 3 to the Xbox One this week (and it’ll also be available to download for Windows 10 PCs). Players will take control of Commander Jaxon, a superpowered Agent played by Terry Crews, and blast their way through a futuristic city to stop a ruthless criminal empire. There’s also the option to compete in Wrecking Zone, a multiplayer mode that asks teams of Agents to tear down the opposing team’s stronghold as fast as they can.
PS4 and Xbox One owners will also find a strange new future in Ubisoft’s Far Cry: New Dawn. Set within a post-apocalyptic world based on Far Cry 5’s Hoep County, New Dawn will pit players against highwaymen and their ruthless leaders, The Twins. Far Cry: New Dawn will also be available to download for the PC.
Yet another dystopian future is on display in 4A Games’s Metro Exodus for the PS4 and Xbox One this week. The third entry in the series based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels will further explore the Russian Federation during the aftermath of a nuclear war. An Xbox One X 1TB + Metro Exodus Bundle will also be available on store shelves, and the game can also be purchased for the PC exclusively through the Epic Games Store.
Finally this week, Bandai Namco will release Jump Force, an anime-inspired crossover fighting game for the PS4 and Xbox One (and downloadable for the PC), and NIS America will release the adventure platformer The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince for the PS4 and Switch.
The full list of this week’s new retail releases can be found after the break. (more…)
Metro Exodus will bring players back to a post-apocalyptic Russia in 2018
Late last year, author Dmitry Glukhovsky teased that a third game in the Metro franchise was in development at 4A Games. Today, Microsoft confirmed the game will be known as Metro Exodus at their E3 Press Conference.
Players will return to the grim landscape that is post-apocalyptic Russia in Metro Exodus, but their fight for survival will take them far away from the tunnels of the Metro this time:
A quarter-century after nuclear war devastated the earth, a few thousand survivors still cling to existence beneath the ruins of Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro. They have struggled against the poisoned elements, fought mutated beasts and paranormal horrors, and suffered the flames of civil war. But now, as Artyom, you must flee the Metro and lead a band of Spartan Rangers on an incredible, continent-spanning journey across post-apocalyptic Russia in search of a new life in the East.
Metro Exodus is an epic, story-driven first person shooter from 4A Games that blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created. Explore the Russian wilderness across vast, non-linear levels and follow a thrilling story-line that spans an entire year through spring, summer and autumn to the depths of nuclear winter.
Publisher Deep Silver later shared more about what players can expect from Metro Exodus:
Metro Exodus Features
- Embark on an Incredible Journey – Board the Aurora, a heavily modified steam locomotive, and join a handful of survivors as they search for a new life in the East
- Experience Sandbox Survival – A gripping story links together classic Metro gameplay with new huge, non-linear levels
- A Beautiful, Hostile World – Discover the post-apocalyptic Russian wilderness, brought to life with stunning day / night cycles and dynamic weather
- Deadly Combat and Stealth – Scavenge and craft in the field to customize your arsenal of hand-made weaponry, and engage human and mutant foes in thrilling tactical combat
Your choices determine your comrades’ fate – not all your companions will survive the journey; your decisions have consequence in a gripping storyline that offers massive re-playability- The Ultimate in Atmosphere and Immersion – A flickering candle in the darkness; a ragged gasp as your gasmask frosts over; the howl of a mutant on the night wind – Metro will immerse and terrify you like no other game…
Metro Exodus is currently in development at 4A Games, and will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2018.
Deep Silver denies release of Next Metro Game in 2017… but confirms it’s in development
Yesterday, a timeline on the official website for Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Metro trilogy revealed that a new game set after the events of the third novel, Metro 2035, would be released in 2017. Today, publisher Deep Silver confirmed that “The Next Metro Video Game” is in the works, but it won’t be released next year.
In a statement to Destructoid, a Deep Silver spokesman said:
“As the exclusive rights holder to video games set in the Metro 2033 universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series. But just to manage our fans’ expectations — releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them. When we have more news to share, we will. Thank you for your patience.”
The timeline on Metro2035.com has been amended to reflect this new state of affairs with a question mark next to the release date for the upcoming Metro game.
The third game in the Metro trilogy will be released in 2017
The final novel in Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Metro trilogy, Metro 2035, will be published in English for the first time on December 10. Naturally, that means another Metro video game is also on the way.
A timeline available on the novel’s official website includes an entry for “The Next Metro Video Game,” along with a release date of sometime in 2017. We don’t know which platforms it’ll land on yet, but the game is expected to build on the events of the third novel and eventually lead to “an era of great discoveries”:
Metro 2035
The final part of the trilogy takes us back to Artyom and his struggle to get the people back to the above world they once ruled. This is a standalone story that can be read independently from the previous books and games — yet for those who have been following Artyom from the very beginning, Metro 2035 crowns the saga in its own way. Characters of all the books and games meet here, their destinies intertwine, and everything you knew about the world of Metro is turned upside down…The Next Metro Video Game
It all adds up to something. Where the books end their story, the game will pick it up. An era of great discoveries lies ahead…
Deep Silver, the publisher of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, declined to comment about the possibility of a new Metro game next year after they were contacted by Destructoid.
