New Releases: Remember Me, Skyrim Legendary Edition, Minecraft Xbox 360, More

newreleases060213

Welcome to Summer! As is customary in the video game industry, the Summer is a notoriously slow time for new releases, but several new games and several big re-releases will be available in stores this first week of June.

This week’s biggest new release is Capcom’s Remember Me. The developers at Dontnod will bring their dystopian future of memory hunters and arena fighting (it’s like two great Arnold movies in one!) to the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC through Steam.

Also available this week is the disc-based edition of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. Complete with all of the game’s updates, if you don’t like the idea of the Xbox Live Arcade (and considering Microsoft’s new policies, it’s understandable), now’s the best time to get Minecraft on your Xbox 360. And speaking of re-releases repackaged with tons of DLC, Bethesda will release The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Legendary Edition this week for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Skyrim’s Legendary Edition will be joined this week by Mojang’s similarly-named card battler Scrolls (PC). It will available through their website as a “paid beta,” much like the original release of Minecraft.

Finally this week, the epic “Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness” storyline comes to an end as Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4 will be released for the PC and Xbox Live Indie Games Channel on Friday.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition retail version delayed until June

minecraft360-header

Microsoft has delayed the release of the retail disc version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. The game was previously scheduled to hit stores on April 30, but has been pushed back to add in “the very latest content.”

The “very latest content” likely includes the upcoming “Title Update 10,” which will fix most of the bugs introduced in “Title Update 9.” With the delay, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will now be available in stores on June 4.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition sails past 6 million copies sold

minecraft360-header

The meteoric rise of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has become the stuff of legend. The PC version was nothing short of a phenomenon, but I’m not sure anyone expected the game to sell five million copies in its first seven months of availability. It took a bit longer to tally their next million, but the team at 4J Studios is happy to announce that Minecraft’s Xbox 360 edition has now sold six million copies:

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will get a chance to sell even more copies when the disc version of the game is released to stores on April 30.

Disc version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition set for April 30 release

minecraftxbox360-retailboxNow this is an unexpected surprise.

Microsoft has announced that a retail disc version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will be released on April 30. The game will carry the same $19.99 price as the Xbox Live Arcade version and will work with the same Skin Packs and Title Updates as its downloadable brother.

The disc version will include all of the content from the eight Title Updates released for the game so far as well as the upcoming ninth Title Update, which will contain The End, the Ender Dragon, and a variety of other additions and tweaks.

Minecraft might come to PlayStation platforms, Wii U release unlikely

minecraftMojang may bring Minecraft to one or more PlayStation platforms after their exclusive agreement with Microsoft is complete, according to Lead Designer Jens Bergensten.

Speaking to iGamer, Bergensten said, “Microsoft has an exclusivity deal for consoles. When it runs out we’ll consider Minecraft for PlayStation, but Wii U is very unlikely.”

Obviously, any deal between Mojang and Sony is still in the early stages, so exactly which platform Minecraft might come to (PS3, PS4, Vita) is still up in the air.

Bergensten was later contacted by Polygon and clarified the company’s position on a Wii U port, saying, “First of all, no doors are closed, but the reason I said that was that during the last couple of months we’ve been discussing the future of the console version of Minecraft, Wii U has barely been mentioned.”

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition sold 5 million copies in 2012

minecraft360-header

Since it’s release in May, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has sailed past numerous sales records. Xbox Live Arcade users scooped up two million, then three million, and finally four million copies of pixelated favorite. What comes next? Why, five million, of course.

Daniel Kaplan, Mojang’s Business Developer, has revealed that on December 31, the Xbox 360 Edition of Minecraft surpassed five million copies sold:

Minecraft really is the little game that could and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before it reaches six million. Say it with me: I think I can… I think I can…
