The Golden Pixel Awards 2012: Gaming’s Best, Worst, and Everything Else
Welcome to Warp Zoned’s second annual Golden Pixel Awards. It was definitely a good year for gaming. With the fight over Mass Effect 3‘s ending, the resurrection of Sleeping Dogs, and the launch of the Wii U, we were treated to 12 months of interesting stories.
So sit back and relax as we reward the best (and worst) games of 2012 with a series of accolades based on their rather unique accomplishments.
The Apocalypse List
The bombs have fallen, the economy has collapsed, food is scarce, the zombie hordes are scratching at your door, and you’ve boarded yourself up in a bunker that’ll stand for a hundred years. What better way to spend your time in “The Vault” than by playing Warp Zoned’s favorite games from 2012? It doesn’t matter if you call it a “Top Ten List” or “Our Favorites From 2012,” but these are the games we plan to keep playing even if there was no game industry to keep making games. (more…)
Microsoft reveals what’s being planned for next Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition update
Microsoft has used their PlayXBLA blog to reveal the contents of the next Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition update. Without further adieu, the seventh title update will include:
- Animal Breeding
- Potion Brewing
- Experience Points
- Enchantment Table
- Mushroom Biome
- Nether Fortress
- New Tutorial World
- Villagers
- Mooshrooms
- Blaze
- Snow Golems
- Magma Cubes
- Baby Animals
More details were promised to be made available “soon,” but the publisher did confirm that “The End” won’t be included in this update. Instead, Microsoft and 4J Studios are saving it for the eighth title update.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition 1.8.2 update will be available tomorrow
Tomorrow… tomorrow… it’s only a day away! Microsoft has officially announced that the 1.8.2 update for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, the so-called “Adventure Update,” will be available tomorrow, October 16.
The 1.8.2 update will add Creative Mode, new mobs, the hunger mechanic (players must eat to maintain their health), new items to mine, new food stuff to eat, NPC villages, abandoned mineshafts, and much, much more. The complete list of changes and bug fixes is available in the patch notes.
The update will go live at 5 AM (Eastern Time), but may take up to 24 hours to propegate to all Xbox Live users.

According to Microsoft, the “Adventure Update” for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will be available “soon.” And while they refuse to give us an actual release date of the long-awaited patch, you can find a massive list of new additions to the game (Creative Mode! Survival Mode! New mobs!), bug fixes, and other changes.
And if you’d prefer to see the new features in action, Microsoft is hosting a special livestream tomorrow on their Twitch TV channel. But, and they couldn’t stress this enough, the update will NOT be available to download tomorrow.

Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition: Over four million served
The Minecraft train just keeps rolling. Over the weekend, 4J Studios announced that over four million copies of the Xbox 360 Edition have been sold since its release in May:

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition players can expect more good news from the developer very soon as work on the “Adventure Update” is almost complete.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition Adventure Update is “still weeks away”
Ever since Minecraft was released for the Xbox 360, gamers have been asking, “where’s the Adventure Update?” Well, developer 4J Studios wants us to know that they’re still toiling away at it, but that the release of the update (version 1.8.2) is “still weeks away.” See for yourself:

Almost four million copies of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition have been sold since its release in May, making it the bestselling Xbox Live Arcade game of all time.
Skin Pack 2 adds 45 skins to Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
Microsoft has released a second Skin Pack for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and it is packed with 45 more skins for all your Minecraft adventuring. The pack is priced at 160 Microsoft Points ($2) and includes characters from Castle Crashers, Gears of War (pictured above), Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, Left 4 Dead, Viva Pinata, and a bunch of indie favorites.

Minecraft becomes bestselling XBLA game ever with 3 million copies sold
Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has just shared some milestone news relating to the sales figures of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. Posting to Twitter, the developer confirmed that the XBLA version of the popular open-world game has sold three million copies:

By itself, that’s pretty impressive. But according to XBLA Fans, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has become the bestselling XBLA game of all time. According to their quick and dirty math, this new total pushes Minecraft past Castle Crashers, which has sold 2.9 million copies over a period of four years.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition did it in two months, almost to the day.
