Get your first glimpse at Kevin Durant in NBA 2K15
Are you a basketball fanatic that followed all the Lebron James hullabaloo this Summer like it was a Presidential election? If so, then you might like to know that 2K Games has released about a dozen seconds of footage from NBA 2K15 featuring coverboy Kevin Durant.
NBA 2K15 will be available for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 7. Everyone who pre-orders the game will receive the Kevin Durant MVP Bonus Pack, which includes “5,000 in Virtual Currency, Kevin Durant Throwback MyTeam Card, Two MyTeam Card Packs, and MyPlayer Leg Sleeves Inspired by Kevin Durant.”
Pharrell Williams will curate the NBA 2K15 soundtrack
I’d like to believe that the timing of this announcement is because someone in 2K’s press relations department has a sense of humor.
2K Games has announced that Pharrell Williams will “curate” the NBA 2K15 soundtrack. Previously, this job has gone to LeBron James (NBA 2K14) and Jay-Z (NBA 2K13). Pharrell is best known for unleashing “Happy” on the world as well as singing background vocals on Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and producing Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.”
“It was a cool experience. I tried to curate songs that were diverse but yet still proved to be motivational to gamers,” said Pharrell. “It was important to me that the music complemented the on-court action of NBA basketball in NBA 2K15. I hope everyone enjoys it.”
Pharrell’s NBA 2K15 soundtrack will be revealed later this Summer, but in a wonderful bit of synergy, “Weird Al” Yankovic released his latest album, Mandatory Fun, today. In addition to making “Blurred Lines” 100% less rapey with “Word Crimes,” Yankovic turns “Happy” into “Tacky” and he enlisted Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal and Jack Black to help with the video. It’s a thing of beauty.
I’m sure Pharrell’s NBA 2K15 soundtrack will be just as interesting when the game is released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 7. Um… maybe not.
NBA 2K15, WWE 2K15 to be released for next-gen this Fall; GTA V on PC still MIA
2K Games has announced that NBA 2K15 and WWE 2K15 are currently in development for release next Fall on next-generation consoles. It’s currently unknown if either game will also be released for last-generation systems like the PS3 or the Xbox 360, but Karl Slatoff, the President of Take Two Interactive, revealed that it’s a very real possibility during the company’s quarterly conference call:
“In terms of the old gen versus new gen question, I would say that any of our announcements that we have made to date don’t necessarily reflect our plans whether something is going to be specifically for next get or old gen. It really is more a function of what we have announced, what platforms we have announced that they are going to be on at this point. […] We have haven’t said anything about our NBA titles — our sports titles — but for next gen platforms. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that we are not going on current gen, rather we are going on current gen, it’s not related at this point. It just means we haven’t had anything to share.”
Slatoff also shot down all the Grand Theft Auto V on PC rumors, saying, “At this point there is really nothing for us to say about that.”
Hopefully, the time to say something “about that” will be soon.
