DJ Khaled, DJ Premier, and DJ Mustard hand-picked the 50-song NBA 2K16 soundtrack
The NBA 2K franchise is well known for its expansive soundtracks, and this Fall’s NBA 2K16 will be no exception. Sporting the largest soundtrack ever included in the series, 2K Games has recruited famed producers DJ Khaled, DJ Premier, and DJ Mustard to curate a 50-song soundtrack for the game. Split into five distinct playlists, each artist also created two tracks that’ll be available only in the game.
You can listen to the entire playlist (minus the exclusive tracks) on Spotify right now, or you can find all 50 songs after the break.
NBA 2K16 will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 29 (more…)
Spike Lee will write and direct MyCareer mode in NBA 2K16
A few months ago, the rumor mill said that famed filmmaker Spike Lee would take the reins of NBA 2K16‘s MyCareer mode. Yesterday, 2K Games confirmed that Lee will indeed be writing and directing the game’s story. Lee spoke to USA Today about his first video game project and explained what he hopes to bring to MyCareer:
“We follow a kid through the trials and tribulations of being a top high school player and the decisions he has to make,” Lee tells USA Today. He says that although he managed to master the intricacies of a 12-day motion-capture shoot at 2K Games’ Bay Area studios, his video game skills leave a lot to be desired.
2K’s Ryan Peters told the newspaper that Lee shot about 90 minutes of “cinematic narrative,” which will be incorporated into the 12-hour MyCareer mode. Peters said, “We just told Spike, ‘You transform the narrative, and we’ll change that into digital polygons.’ And he did that, bringing a protagonist and antagonist to the story.”
2K Games also revealed that NBA 2K16 will have three separate covers when it hits store shelves this Fall. Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, James Harden of the Houston Rockets, and Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans will all be the face of NBA 2K16. However, only Curry is playing in the NBA Finals, and with the Warriors up 1-0, he could claim his first NBA Championship ring by the end of next week.
If so, that’ll look mighty nice on his NBA 2K16 cover, which will be available for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 29. Though players who pre-order will receive it four days earlier, on September 25, so they can take part in 2K’s “Tip-Off Weekend.”
2K has NBA 2K16, WWE 2K16, Battleborn, and a “new triple-A title” on tap for 2015
Take-Two Intereactive CEO Strauss Zelnick announced a trio of new titles during the company’s quarterly financial report yesterday. But two we already knew about and the third will remain under wraps until this year’s E3 Expo.
First, Zelnick confirmed that both of 2K’s annual franchises would receive new entries in 2015. WWE 2K16 will be released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 27 while NBA 2K16 will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and mobile platforms sometime in the Fall, though NBA 2K titles typically launch in early October.
The CEO also revealed the company will release a “new triple-A title” during their current fiscal year:
Throughout the coming year, we will continue to execute our proven strategy of launching a select array of the highest-quality titles, led by new annual releases of NBA 2K and WWE 2K; Battleborn, a groundbreaking new intellectual property from Gearbox Software; and a soon-to-be announced new triple-A title from 2K.
This unannounced game is likely in development at Hangar 13, Take-Two’s newest internal studio. Rumor has it that Hangar 13 is working on Mafia III, but we won’t find out for sure until next month. And we may not get to play it until early next year as Take-Two’s fiscal year officially ends on March 31, 2016.
Finally, Zelnick confirmed that Gearbox’s latest, Battleborn, will also be released during the current fiscal year. More details on the colorful (and character-ful) shooter will be revealed ahead of the E3 Expo and during the show itself.
So your big takeaway from this announcement should be that Take-Two Intereactive is going to have a big presence at the 2015 E3 Expo.
UPDATE: 2K Games has confirmed that their “new triple-A title” is actually XCOM 2, which is currently in development at Firaxis.
