20XX will exit Early Access this Summer and come to PS4/Xbox One by end of the year
20XX is currently available on Steam through Early Access (the latest trailer for the beta version is embedded above), but we learned the final version should be finished sometime this Summer. We spoke to Zack Urtes, the Art Director at Batterystaple Games, during this weekend’s PAX East expo, and he shared that the team also plans to bring their Mega Man-like platformer to the PS4 and Xbox One by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the show floor, Capcom continued to ignore the Mega Man franchise.
UPDATE: Urtes may have jumped the arm cannon with his comments. Batterystaple’s Chris King told us the team isn’t ready to confirm a final release date or a possible PS4/Xbox One launch:
We have no official release date, and while we’re very interested in coming to XB1/PS4 and are exploring what it’d take to do so, we’re nowhere near ready to talk about when that might happen.
Dear Diary: Friday at PAX East 2016 I Played…
The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center has opened the doors for PAX East once again. And once that overwhelming feeling went away, I managed to pay a visit to more than a few indie developers on Friday. So here’s a quick look at what I managed to play on the first day of PAX East 2016… (more…)
Gearbox mentions Borderlands 3 at PAX East 2016… and the crowd goes wild
Let’s face it, with Battleborn still a few weeks away, Gearbox is just not ready to talk about Borderlands 3. But that didn’t stop them from telling the crowd the game will be their next project at this year’s PAX East expo.
During the annual “Inside Gearbox Software” panel, CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed that Gearbox is planning to begin production on Borderlands 3 soon: “It’s no secret. Obviously there is going to be another Borderlands.” Art Director Scott Kester even referred to the game as “Borderlands 3,” though Pitchford later added, “We don’t even know if we’re going to call it that.”
Writer Mikey Neumann also revealed he’ll be writing Borderlands 3, and Pitchford slyly said that if players “look deeply” into Battleborn’s downloadable content, they may find a few Borderlands 3 easter eggs.
But again, none of this should really be a surprise.
Nintendo is bringing Kirby: Planet Robobot, Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, more to PAX East 2016
Nintendo will showcase five upcoming games at this weekend’s PAX East convention… unfortunately, The Legend of Zelda Wii U didn’t make the cut. However, Star Fox Zero, which will also be available in stores on April 22, did.
Congoers will also have the chance to try out a few games making their playable debut including Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE (Wii U) and a trio of 3DS games. Fans of Nintendo’s handheld will be able to try Kirby: Planet Robobot, Monster Hunter Generations, and Metroid Prime: Federation Force on the show floor for the first time. And speaking of Metroid Prime: Federation Force, Nintendo also confirmed this morning that it’ll be released on August 19.
If you’re unfamiliar with any of the games in Nintendo’s PAX East 2016 lineup, more details are available after the break. (more…)
Pyre announced by Supergiant Games… and it’ll be playable at PAX East 2016
Supergiant Games will return to PAX East this weekend with their third game, Pyre. Set to be released in 2017 for the PC and PS4, Pyre is a party-based RPG that combines “expressive decision-making on the world map with fast, action-packed confrontations against rival groups.”
Supergiant is attempting to build another unique and interesting world for Pyre, and a small glimpse at that world can be seen in the trailer embedded above. The developer also a bit more ato say bout the mystery at the heart of the story on their official website:
The Story So Far: At the beginning of the game, your luck has almost run out when several masked wanderers find you and revive you from the brink. With your help, they seek to learn the truth about the Rites, a secretive competition through which the worthiest exiles can return home, absolved of their transgressions. As you journey across the Downside in the wanderers’ custom blackwagon, you’ll meet a variety of characters of all shapes and sizes, and learn what’s in store for each of them should they prevail in the Rites. Your actions will determine who returns to glory, and who remains in exile to the end of their days.
As with Bastion and Transistor, Pyre will feature original music written by Darren Korb, with vocals performed by Korb and Ashley Barrett. A video for “In the Flood,” the song featured in the trailer, can be found after the break. (more…)
Get your revenge in Mafia III on October 7
2K Games is heading down to N’awlins (excuse me, New Bordeaux) this October to treat PC, PS4, and Xbox One owners to the blood-soaked tale of revenge at the center of Mafia III. Set in the swingin’ sixties, a new Story Trailer for the game gives us another glimpse into Lincoln Clay’s war on the organized crime families that ruined his life:
Mafia III is set in the open world of 1968 New Bordeaux, a reimagined version of New Orleans bustling with activity and complete with era-inspired cars, fashion and music. After years of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. Now, back home in New Bordeaux, Lincoln is set on escaping his criminal past. But when his surrogate family, the black mob, is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family from the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible. Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white-knuckle driving, hard choices and street smarts will all be required to survive the mean streets of New Bordeaux. But with the right crew, it’s possible to make it to the top of the city’s underworld.
Mafia III is in development at Hangar 13, and the developer plans to release a number of downloadable add-ons and expansions for the game after its launch. A Season Pass will be available, and a special Deluxe Edition (priced at $79.99) will bundle together the main game and the Season Pass. A Collector’s Edition (Retail Price: $149.99) is also in the works, and it’ll include the main game, the Season Pass, the original game score on vinyl, a collectible art book, art prints, and more. Everyone who pre-orders any version of Mafia III will receive the Family Kick-Back Pack, which will contain three exclusive vehicles and weapons.
“Mafia III introduces a true open world, rich with its own criminal ecosystems to the franchise, while still upholding the strong narrative storytelling and immersive setting that the previous Mafia games are known for,” said Haden Blackman, Studio Head and Creative Director at Hangar 13. “New Bordeaux in 1968 provides a unique and powerful backdrop for our hard-boiled story of crime, betrayal, loyalty and revenge.”
Developers from Hangar 13 will travel to Boston this weekend for the annual PAX East convention. The Saturday panel, “Defining a New Era of Organized Crime,” will explore how the team brought the franchise into the modern day and what it was like creating a new protagonist to take on the Italian mob.
Mafia III will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 7.
New trailer shines a spotlight on Doom’s character customization system
Players who plan to jump into Doom‘s multiplayer modes will find a deep player progression system and loads of customization options for weapons, armor, and taunts. And you can get a glimpse at some of the ways you can make your characters yours in the brand new trailer from Bethesda that’s been embedded above.
And if you’re interested in trying out the customization options for yourself, you won’t have to wait until Doom’s May 13 launch. An Open Beta for the game is now available to download on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and it’ll stay open all weekend long. Beta participants will get to try out two maps (the hellish “Infernal” and the industrial “Heatwave”) and two modes (Warpath, a King of the Hill mode, and Team Deathmatch).
Bethesda is also bringing Doom to next weekend’s PAX East expo. This Bethesda.net post has more details on all the festivities, but congoers will get the chance to try out an all-new map and all-new mode against a never-before-seen demon.
