Quantum Conundrum revealed by Square Enix
Square Enix has finally released the details on one of the new titles they’ve been working on, entitled Quantum Conundrum. Squenix has been working with Airtight Games and the co-creator of Portal, Kim Swift, to make this “quirky and engaging first-person platform puzzle game.” Set for release in early 2012, the game will be coming to the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
The game sounds pretty amazing so far:
In Quantum Conundrum, players take on the role of a young kid dropped off on his uncle’s doorstep for the weekend; his uncle just so happens to be the brilliant, eccentric inventor, Professor Fitz Quadwrangle. Upon entering the Professor’s vast manor home retrofitted with crazy technology to test his latest hypotheses, players quickly realize their uncle has gone missing. Fortunately, players soon gain access to Professor Quadwrangle’s latest invention, the Inter-Dimensional Shift Device, which, at the press of a button, will shift the world around them to an entirely new dimension. In order to find him, players must use the newly found IDS Device to dynamically change the world to and from a variety of different dimensions to progress through the complicated Quadwrangle Manor. While on the journey, becoming adept at utilizing the various dimensions will help them trek from one bizarre and challenging room to the next. It might sound easy enough, but it is a tall order for a kid in a giant puzzle of a manor!
If you’re at PAX this weekend, be sure to check out their exclusive panel on Saturday, August 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pegasus Room.
Penny Arcade Adventures: Episode 3 announced – FOR REAL
No, this is not a drill, or a joke, or a test of any sort. The third episode of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, HAS JUST BEEN ANNOUNCED. If you knew me very well, you would know that I do not joke about these things, and that this is a thing that I have been wishing for. The Penny Arcade team will be joining forces with Zeboyd Games to make this happen. Episode 3 will launch in 2012 on “as many systems [as possible].”
Robert Khoo – who mentioned on Facebook that they had quite a few new projects coming out – said, “We originally had the idea of an NES-style RPG last year, but we couldn’t find the right people to do it. After we saw Zeboyd’s Breath of Death VII and Cthulhu Saves the World, we knew we didn’t have to look around anymore. Zeboyd was a perfect match.”
Now please pardon me whilst I faint. *vapors*
Halo 4’s Warthog pulls into Forza 4’s garage
Dubbed “car porn” by more than one commentator, Forza Motorsport 4‘s Autovista Mode is a Kinect-powered look inside some of the world’s coolest cars. And also some of the coolest cars that aren’t even of this world. That’s right, the new Warthog that the Master Chief will drive in next year’s Halo 4 will be available to ogle in Forza Motorsport 4.
Turn 10 has stressed that you won’t be able to drive the heavy duty vehicle in the game, but if you want a closer look at the Chief’s ride, the trailer above is definitely for you.
Sega officially laces up Sonic CD for PC, PSN, XBLA, mobile devices
A few days after Sonic’s CD adventure was inadvertently revealed by Major Nelson, Sega has officially announced that Sonic CD will be coming to the PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in late 2011. The game will also be available for mobile platforms including iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone and Android.
Featuring the first appearances of Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, the Sonic CD port will include widescreen graphics, the original Japanese soundtrack, special iOS features, Achievements/Trophies and the same story every Sonic fan knows and loves:
Following the classic story of the original, Sonic CD sees Dr. Eggman plan to cause chaos and take control of the future by stealing Time Stones from the Little Planet. Sonic must speed through levels and travel through time while fending off Eggman’s robots to recover the Time Stones, and save Amy Rose from his mechanical twin, Metal Sonic!
Sonic CD will make its public debut this weekend at PAX Prime. The game (actually, the XBLA version) will be available to play at the Microsoft booth.
Kirby Wii gets new title, October 24 release date
Kirby Wii has inhaled some of that fresh PAX air and spit out a new title (Kirby’s Return to Dreamland), a new release date (October 24) and the new trailer you see above.
The pink puffball leads an impressive lineup of playable demos that Nintendo plans to bring to this weekend’s PAX Prime. If you’ve got tickets (the show has been sold out for months), I highly recommend stopping by Nintendo’s booth (No. 462).
Check out the publisher’s full PAX lineup after the break. (more…)
Microsoft showing Sonic CD at PAX Prime
Now this is an awesome surprise. Microsoft’s Major Nelson laid out the company’s PAX Prime lineup in a post on his blog. Mixed in among other Xbox Live Arcade titles like Trials Evolution, Crimson Alliance and Orcs Must Die is an XBLA port of Sonic CD.
Sonic’s Sega CD adventure was last made available through the GameCube-exclusive Sonic Gems Collection (OK, it was on the PS2 too if you lived in Europe). It’s inclusion on the Xbox Live Arcade is a bit of a no-brainder as Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic 4: Episode 1, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Adventure are all already downloadable from the service.
Sega has yet to formally announce Sonic CD for the XBLA, so this could be a mistake, but it sounds pretty legit to me.
Square Enix and Airtight Games bringing secret project to PAX
Even though Gamescom just ended, Square Enix has a new secret project they plan to premiere at this weekend’s PAX Prime.
Developed by Airtight Games (Dark Void), the untitled game is said to be “incredibly fascinating and quirky.” Square Enix and Airtight have also confirmed that the game’s Creative Director is ex-Valve employee Kim Swift. Swift was one of the creative minds behind Narbacular Drop as well as its successor, Portal, and Left 4 Dead.
The game will be make its public debut on Saturday, August 27 at 7:00 PM during a panel in the Pegasus Room.
Borderlands 2 teaser trailer goes guncrazy with the Gunzerker
Well here’s a nice late night surprise. A few minutes ago, 2K Games released the first teaser trailer for Borderlands 2! The short clip focuses on new character Salvador the Gunzerker and his “shoot first, ask questions never” gameplay style.
Borderlands 2 will be available for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012, but if you can’t wait that long the game will be playable at both Gamescom 2011 (from August 17 – August 21) and PAX Prime (Booth #3417 from August 26 – August 28).
