Persona 5 pushed back to April 4; Dual Japanese/English audio announced

Today has been a big day for fans of the Persona franchise… and not all of it has been good news. That’s because Atlus announced today that Persona 5 will miss its previously-scheduled February 14 launch date. Instead, the game will now be available for the PS4 and PS3 on April 4, 2017.

However, it’s not all bad news. Atlus also announced that everyone who purchases Persona 5 will have the option to download a Japanese voiceover for the game. And whether you buy Persona 5 at launch, or years from now, Atlus will offer the Japanese voiceover as a free download.

But wait, there’s more. The publisher also unveiled a new trailer for Persona 5, “Learn How the Phantom Thieves Live Dual Lives,” which has been embedded above. And if you want to outfit your PS4 in Persona 5’s rather distinctive red and black color scheme, a free Theme is available to download today only from the PlayStation Store.

Finally, Atlus is hosting a Persona 5 livestream on Twitch, so tune in now or catch up with the replay later. And if you’re planning to attend next PlayStation Experience event in Anaheim, be sure to head down to the Atlus Booth to try out a playable demo of Persona 5.

New Persona 5 trailer introduces players to “The Protagonist”

Atlus has released a new Persona 5 trailer introducing fans to “The Protagonist,” the leader of the Phantom Thieves and the RPG’s main character. To go along with this reveal, the publisher has also announced a portion of the game’s English voice cast:

Persona 5 Voice Cast

  • Xander Mobus as The Protagonist
  • Cassandra Morris as Morgana
  • Max Mittelman as Ryuji Sakamoto
  • Erika Harlacher as Ann Takamaki
  • Matt Mercer as Yusuke Kitagawa
  • Cherami Leigh as Makoto Niijima
  • Erica Lindbeck as Futaba Sakura
  • Xanthe Huynh as Haru Okumura
  • Robbie Daymond as Goro Akechi

“We at Atlus USA take pride in the quality and care we put into casting and dubbing for our games, and Persona 5 is no exception,” said Yu Namba, Persona 5’s Project Lead and Recording Supervisor. “This is a completely new cast of characters, so we started with a blank slate in bringing life to them with our stellar cast of voice actors. It’s hard saying goodbye to the cast of previous Persona games, but we hope to bring an entirely new tone with a new set of actors for this game.”

Persona 5 will be released for the PS4 and PS3 on February 14, 2017. But in the meantime, you can find a Q&A video with the actor behind The Protagonist, Xander Mobus, after the break. (more…)

Atlus has delayed the release of Persona 5 to second half of 2016

2015 loses another major new game as Atlus has announced that Persona 5 will not be released by the end of the year as originally planned. Instead, the PS4 and PS3 RPG will be available sometime in the latter half of 2016.

A year-long delay is never a welcome announcement, but Atlus did release a new Persona 5 trailer this week as part of their Tokyo Game Show presentation. As you might have guessed, it’s entirely in Japanese, but an English translation was published by Siliconera.

Atlus had this to say about the delay: “[We realize] the frustration and disappointment that this must cause for the JRPG-loving public, please know that we are delaying the game in order to make sure the next iteration of the Persona series lives up to the expectations of fans.”

Atlus has released a gameplay trailer for Persona 5

It’s been more than a year since Atlus gave us our first taste of Persona 5. Today, they made up for their protracted silence with a new trailer that runs nearly three minutes and is absolutely oozing with style.

I’m not entirely sure I know what’s going on, but the trailer introduced us to the main character and his friends before diving into in-game footage of their school life and a glimpse at a few battles. After dark, these characters turn into masked vigilantes of some sort as they displayed some very Batman-like maneuvers atop a moving train. Also, one of the main characters is a cat… or possibly a little kid in a full-body cat costume. You never can tell with the Persona series.

Persona 5 will be released for the PS3 and PS4 sometime in 2015.

It’s ‘Personarama’ as Atlus announces four Persona games for North America

persona5-concept

Atlus today revealed that four new titles in the highly popular Persona universe will be making their way to the North America over the next two years.

First on the list is Persona 5, set to hit the PlayStation 3 in 2015. Persona 5 will be a traditional RPG, but details are slim. The game’s director, Katsura Hashino, only provided us (via the PlayStation Blog) with one cryptic hint of what to expect: “The storyline will be about throwing off the chains of oppression to find one’s true self.’

Second is the next installment of Persona’s fighter, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. A direct sequel to last year’s Persona 4 Arena, Ultimax will host several new features, including new characters, story, and fighting modes. Expect P4AU to hit the PS3 and the Xbox 360 in Fall 2014. You can take a look at Ultimax in motion on Atlus’ YouTube page.

Next, Persona 4: Dancing All Night is a rhythm action game, using tunes from the series. This PlayStation Vita title features 30 tracks, along with a full story mode. Not many details were given about this title, other than that instead of traditional attacks, characters combat each other with dance moves. Hey, why not? It’s worked before. Hold on to your dance shoes, though; this one won’t hit the Vita until 2015.

Finally, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth will unite the Persona users across space and time on the 3DS this Fall. A teaser trailer is available through Atlus’ YouTube page.

Persona 5 will arrive on PS3 in Winter 2014 (in Japan)

Our long wait is both over and just beginning… Atlus has announced that Persona 5 will be released in Japan next Winter exclusively for the PS3. The US release date is currently unknown, but will surely be announced soon.

Aside from the short teaser trailer above, Atlus is being very quiet about Persona 5. We know that it will be directed by Katsura Hashino with art direction by Shigenori Soejima and a soundtrack composed by Shoji Meguro, but that’s about it.

Three Persona titles on the horizon including P4 Vita, Persona 5 and a fighter

Atlus is set to shower us with more Persona love and will be porting Persona 4 to the PlayStation Vita as “Persona 4: The Golden“. This remake will contain a host of new features including a new character, a new opening sequence with new music from Shouji Meguro, and more voice work than the original PS2 version.

Atlus has also announced that it will release a 2D fighting game called Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena. And though its title says “Persona 4”, it will also feature characters from Persona 3. This student/persona brawl will be the product of a partnership between Atlus and Arc System Works, the makers of fighting games such as the BlazBlue and Guilty Gear series. Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena is scheduled for a Summer 2012 release (in Japan) on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Persona 5 has also been teased and some details, such as the game’s staff, have been revealed. The regular team, including Director Katsura Hashino and composer Shouji Meguro,is returning, but no other details (including which systems it’ll land on) have been mentioned. I’m personally hoping that it’ll come to PS3 and expand on the magic I felt from stumbling around drunkenly in a bar.
