No Goblin’s 100 Ft Robot Golf is exactly what you’d expect it to be
One hundred foot robot golf.
Close your eyes and let your imagination do its magic to those words. Are you picturing giant robots running between skyscrapers while smacking golf balls with giant clubs? Congratulations, you’ve perfectly sussed out everything you need to know about No Goblin’s upcoming PS4 game, 100 Ft Robot Golf. Oh, and open your eyes, because No Goblin’s Dan Teasdale used a little golf pencil to write up a post on the PlayStation Blog further describing the game:
I love telling people about 100 Ft Robot Golf, because the name instantly describes what this game is. It’s impossibly huge robots playing golf! The twist is that not only are the robots directly controllable in real time, but they’re playing golf in a fully destructible environment. You can now destroy that pesky obstacle that’s blocking your shot to the green, or even push it in the way of one of your golf buddies!
100 Ft Robot Golf will be released for the PS4 sometime in 2016 and also include four-player splitscreen play, a unique single-player Campaign Mode (that focuses on the “stories behind some of the world’s most famous robot golfers”), and support for Sony’s PlayStation VR headset.
MLB The Show 16 will be released for the PS4, PS3 on March 29
Major League Baseball’s free agency period is in full swing, but Sony has confirmed that the MLB The Show series will be staying put in 2016. Announced today at the PlayStation Experience keynote, MLB The Show 16 will be released for the PS4 and PS3 on March 29, 2016. The development team at Sony San Diego laid out their plans for some of MLB The Show 16’s new features, including the slow motion ShowTime mechanic, at the PlayStation Blog:
In MLB The Show 16, you’ll experience baseball’s most epic moments like never before with ShowTime. Using ShowTime, you can slow down critical moments for maximum control. ShowTime offers gamers a powerful new tool to help them excel in those big baseball moments.
Josh Donaldson of the Toronto Blue Jays has been selected as MLB The Show 16’s cover athlete. The third baseman won the Anerican League MVP award earlier this year, along with the MLB Players Association’s Player of the Year award and the AL Outstanding Player award. Naturally, this gave Sony the idea to also release MLB The Show 16 for the PS4 in an MVP Edition, which will retail for $69.99 and include the following goodies:
- Limited Edition Steel Book and Packaging
- 5,000 Stubs
- 1 Sponsor Pack
- 10 Standard Packs
- 31 PS4 MLB Themed Avatars
- 1 Opening Day Pack
A Digital Deluxe Edition (priced at $99.99) for the PS4 will bump up the number of in-game extras to 11,000 Stubs, 20 Standard Packs, and three Opening Day Packs.
Sadly, it looks MLB The Show 16 isn’t in the works for the Vita, marking the first time the franchise won’t be released for Sony’s handheld.
Final Fantasy VII, Nuclear Throne, Bastion Vita, more added to PS Store today
Have you taken a look at the ridiculous new trailer for the Final Fantasy VII Remake yet? If not, I suggest you should. And if you’re feeling nostalgic, the planned PS4 port of the PSone original is now available to download from the PlayStation Store. Believe it or not, Sony actually added a huge number of games to the PlayStation Store today, check ’em out:
- Vlambeer’s roguelike-like top-down shooter Nuclear Throne is now available for the PS4 and Vita. This one has been available through Steam Early Access (and on the convention circuit) for a long time, but it’s exciting that it’s finally complete.
- Supergiant’s action RPG Bastion, which was previously released for the PS4, is now available for the Vita as a Cross-Buy title.
- The Bit.Trip, the entire Bit.Trip series collected in a single PS4/Vita Cross-Buy package.
- Fat Princess Adventures, a “comical co-op action RPG” for the PS4 for one-to-four players.
- Guns Up!, a free-to-play side-scrolling strategy game for the PS4 that merges “enemy base invasion with tower defense”
More details on all of these titles can be found after the break. And don’t forget about all the new PS2-On-PS4 games, which are also available today. (more…)
Final Fantasy VII Remake gets an action-packed new trailer
You can’t have a PlayStation event without talking about the Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Square Enix did just that at today’s PlayStation Experience keynote.
The new trailer gives us our first look at many of the game’s characters, as well as a chance to hear the game’s voice acting. We even got a very short glimpse at some gameplay and it almost looks like an action RPG to me. It’s unknown if Square Enix is moving away from the turn-based style of the original for the Remake, but they have found a lot of success with that gameplay style with the Kingdom Hearts series.
There’s still no release date, but Square Enix reiterated the Final Fantasy VII Remake will be coming “first” to the PS4, implying that a PC and/or Xbox One release is also in the cards.
Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is exclusively in development for PS4
Once again collaborating with Studio Ghibli, Bandai Namco and Level-5 have announced Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, a sequel to 2013’s well-liked Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, is exclusively in development for the PS4. There’s no release date yet, but you can get your first glimpse at the adventures of a boy king and his otherworldly companion in the “Director’s Cut” trailer embedded above.
“With its emotional storytelling, innovative gameplay, and breathtaking aesthetics, the original Ni No Kuni broke new ground in the RPG genre and became one of the most beloved and well-received games of 2013,” said Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing at Bandai Namco Entertainment America. “With Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, the artistic visionaries behind the first game are back to take their creative vision of a grand adventure to even higher heights that are sure to delight video game fans.”
Somewhere, Senior Editor Nicole Kline just started jumping for joy.
Yakuza 5 will be released on December 8; Yakuza Zero NA/EU release officially confirmed
After promising that it would be released in 2015, Sega snuck in just under the wire by announcing that Yakuza 5 will be available to download from the PlayStation Store on December 8 during today’s 2015 PlayStation Experience keynote. More than a simple crime story, Sega’s John Hardin tried to explain the appeal of the Yakuza series to those who’ve never played it (and his aunts) at the PlayStation Blog:
Taking place across five different cities in Japan, Yakuza 5 follows five protagonists who have been involved with various yakuza syndicates in the past. Through a series of events, the protagonists are forcibly dragged back into the seedy underworld of Japan and will need to rely on their fighting, driving, shooting, and dancing skills to survive. Moreover, we like to call the game “The Japan Simulator” because the game’s numerous side-missions and mini-games genuinely make the game feel like being in Japan.
Hardin also revealed that a 1980s-set prequel, Yakuza Zero, will also finally make its way to North America (and Europe too). In development exclusively for the PS4, players will “witness the rise” of Kazuma Kiryu in Yakuza Zero:
Not yet the Dragon of Dojima, Kazuma Kiryu tries to regain his honor after a botched debt collection that ended in murder. Additionally, for the first time in a numbered game, gamers will be able to play as Goro Majima, the Mad Dog of Shimano, as he tries to rejoin his clan. You don’t get nicknames like “Dragon of Dojima” or “Mad Dog of Shimano” for being soft, so expect each character to have his own unique fighting style and abilities that can be unleashed on poor rival gangsters. The game is set in Tokyo, December 1988, and players will experience the cold weather and cold hard cash that is flooding the city. Cash is king and everyone, especially the yakuza, needs to have more of it. Thankfully, Kiryu and Majima are the “entrepreneurial” type and will have plenty of ways to make, spend, and take money. From telephone clubs to disco halls, there will be ample opportunities for Kiryu and Majima to flex their colorful suits, gold watches, and fat stacks.
We don’t know when Yakuza Zero will be released, but unlike Yakuza 5 and its digital-only launch on the PlayStation Store, Yakuza Zero will be available as a downloadable title and on a Blu-ray disc.
First Call of Duty: Black Ops III DLC Pack will be known as Awakening
Activision and Treyarch have announced that the first Call of Duty: Black Ops III DLC Pack will be known as Awakening. As expected, the pack will include four new multiplayer maps (“Skyjacked,” “Rise,” “Splash,” and “Gauntlet”) and the next chapter for Zombies Mode, “Der Eisendrachen.” The Awakening DLC Pack will launch for the PS4 first, before arriving on the PC and Xbox One a month later.
We don’t know when the Awakening Map Pack will be released (other than sometime in 2016), but you can get a glimpse at a brand new teaser image right here…
