F.A.N.G. is the final Street Fighter V character; Capcom also announces 2016 Season Pass

Capcom had one last Street Fighter V character to announce before the game’s February 16 launch, and they did it today at the 2015 PlayStation Experience. F.A.N.G. is a gangly behatted weirdo that’s the new second-in-command of Shadaloo. He’s also got a way with toxins and flings poisonous gas around the arena like your old college roommate:

About F.A.N.G.
F.A.N.G. is an assassin whose unique poison attacks leave him second only to M. Bison himself! Besides overseeing Shadaloo’s operations, his true passion comes from the evil experiments conducted within Shadaloo’s research facilities. F.A.N.G. introduces a series first mechanic; poison. Whenever his poison attacks connect, they continuously deal damage to the opponent’s life bar until he gets hit or the poison runs its course. F.A.N.G.’s sinister long range attacks and slippery movements, paired with his ability to poison, will leave his opponents feeling ill.

V-Skill: Nishodoku
F.A.N.G. sends out a slow moving poison-filled projectile. If it makes contact with the opponent, it will begin to slowly deal damage.

V-Trigger: Dokunomu
The ultimate defense, F.A.N.G. emits a poisonous cloud around his body that constantly deals damage to the opponent as long as they’re near him.

The Capcom-Unity blog also confirmed that six characters will be added to Street Fighter V over the course of 2016: Alex, Guile, Balrog, Ibuki, Juri, and Urien. A Season Pass (priced at $29.99 and available now) will include access to all six characters, as well as a premium costume for each. Players can also opt to purchase “Zenny” or earn “Fight Money” by completing challenges to gain access to the new characters. It’s currently unknown exactly how players will earn “Fight Money” and how much they’ll need to unlock these characters for free.

PS4 owners can now download PS2 games from the PlayStation Store

Sony is getting back into the backwards compatibility game with the announcement that PS4 owners will now be able to download PS2 games from the PlayStation Store. Eight titles, most priced at $14.99 apiece, will be included in the first wave of releases, which features the famed Grand Theft Auto III Trilogy, Twisted Metal Black, Dark Cloud, and several others:

  • Dark Cloud
  • Grand Theft Auto III
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  • The Mark of Kri
  • Rogue Galaxy
  • Twisted Metal Black
  • War of the Monsters

So what do you get for your $14.99? Sony has confirmed, in a post on the PlayStation Blog, that all PS2-On-PS4 games will be uprendered to 1080p and include support for Trophies, Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, and Activity Feeds. For the Trophies, Sony consulted with the original development teams to ensure that they “capture the spirit and feeling” of each game.

Sony plans to add new PS2-On-PS4 games to the PlayStation Store “on a regular basis,” and will be showcasing many of them during this weekend’s PlayStation Experience. So if you’re in San Francisco for the big show, you’ll be able to play most of the games listed above (minus GTA3 and Twisted Metal Black) on the show floor, along with future releases PaRappa the Rapper 2 and The King of Fighters 2000.

In case your memory of these games has been lost to the mists of time, more information on all of them can be found after the break. (more…)

Vblank announces Shakedown Hawaii, a 16-bit sequel to Retro City Rampage

Two weeks ahead of this year’s PlayStation Experience, Vblank Entertainment has announced Shakedown Hawaii, a sequel to Retro City Rampage. Set to be released for the PS4 and Vita sometime in the “to be announced” future, the game will be playable on the show floor at Sony’s big showcase. Developer Brian Provinciano teased a tiny bit about Shakedown Hawaii, which will have a 16-bit art style, on the PlayStation Blog:

Shakedown Hawaii brings the Vblank open world universe into the 16-bit era, powered up with destructible environments and an arsenal of supercharged weapons. Taking place some thirty years after the events of Retro City Rampage, the game follows The Player as he comes out of early retirement to rebuild his neglected corporate empire.

The footer of the official Shakedown Hawaii website confirms that the game will also be available for the PC (via Steam) and at least one unnamed Nintendo platform.

More than 113 games will be playable at PlayStation Experience 2015

playstation-header

The 2015 PlayStation Experience is just a few weeks away and Sony has unveiled (via the PlayStation Blog) the semi-complete list of games that will be playable on the show floor. I say “semi-complete” because the consolemaker also revealed they have plenty of new game announcements planned for the next edition of their yearly showcase, many of which will also have demos available.

The list, which is available after the break, is mostly populated with this Fall’s biggest PS4, PS3, and Vita releases. But it also has a few unannounced titles, including New Hot Shots Golf. Actually, I’m not sure if this is the first mention of a new Hot Shots Golf game or not, but its inclusion is a nice surprise to me… and that’s something.

The 2015 PlayStation Experience will be held on December 5th and 6th in San Francisco. Tickets are still available and can be purchased through PlayStation.com. (more…)

Far Cry: Primal takes the series to the Stone Age on February 23, 2016

One of the most common complaints you’ll hear from gamers nowadays is that more first person shooters should step away from the “modern warfare” setting. Ubisoft heard their cries and is using the next entry in the Far Cry franchise to get as far away from modern as you possibly can.

Far Cry: Primal will take players back to the Stone Age, forcing them to come face-to-face with long-instinct beasts like the woolly mammoth and sabertooth tiger. Taking control of Takkar, players will have to hunt these animals in order to survive and build a better life for his tribemates:

Gamers play as Takkar, a seasoned hunter and the last surviving member of his hunting group. Arriving in the majestic and savage land of Oros, players will pursue one single goal; survive in a world where humans are the prey. They will meet a cast of memorable characters who will help them push back and tame the dangers of the wild. Players will journey as the first human to tame the wilderness and rise above extinction. Along the way, they will have to hunt for food, master fire, fend off fierce predators, craft weapons and tools partly from the bones of slain beasts and face off against other tribes to conquer Oros.

Ubisoft has also announced plans to bring a demo of Far Cry: Primal to the PlayStation Experience in San Francisco this December. If you don’t think you’ll be able to make your way to Sony’s big show, Ubisoft is offering to send two people to the City by the Bay through a contest on the official Far Cry website.

Far Cry: Primal is currently in development at Ubisoft Montreal, and is is expected to be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 23. A behind-the-scenes video detailing some of the early design work has been embedded after the break. (more…)

Sony will host PlayStation Experience 2015 in San Francisco this December

Sony packed the inaugural PlayStation Experience with a ton of announcements and gave attendees of the two-day convention a chance to play dozens of upcoming PS3, PS4, and Vita games for the first time. While many assumed the event would be a one-time thing to celebrate the platform’s 20th anniversary, Sony has other plans. Earlier this week, the consolemaker announced that PlayStation Experience 2015 will be held in San Francisco on December 5 and December 6.

The convention will be held at the Moscone West, a tri-level exhibition hall that’s about a mile from the Bay Bridge. So it’s safe to assume that a huge number of titles will once again be on display this year.

While Sony isn’t ready to talk about which game will be on display, they have begun selling tickets to the event at the official PlayStation Experience website. Two-day passes have been priced at $75 (discounted to $60 if you buy before September 20) while single-day passes are $45 (Saturday) and $40 (Sunday). A “Capcom Cup VIP Package Add-On” is also available for $75 if you’d like front row seats for the finale of the Capcom Pro Tour.

More information about this year’s PlayStation Experience can be found at the PlayStation Blog.
