Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will get a Survival Mode this December
Nathan Drake may have rode off into the sunset at the end of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, but that doesn’t mean that Naughty Dog is done with their swashbuckling action game. Announced today on the PlayStation Blog, Uncharted 4 will receive a downloadable Survival Mode expansion in mid-December.
The wave-based Survival Mode will offer a co-op experience for up to three players as they defend their base against Shoreline mercenaries and Pirate Warlords:
Across 50 waves and 10 maps, you’ll face off against Shoreline mercenaries, heavily armored Brutes, Snipers, Hunters, and more that will only get more precise, more aggressive, and better equipped as time goes on. Every 10 waves culminates in an intense boss battle, including our all-new Pirate Warlords. Inspired by the story of Uncharted 4, some of the Founders of Libertalia have arrived to hunt you down with powerful Mystical attacks. Don’t miss Henry Avery himself as the Djinn-wielding Warlord boss in the video above.
But Survival requires more than just dispatching enemies. To reach wave 50, you’ll need to work your way through objective modes where victory depends on defending a particular area, collecting treasures within a time limit, or taking out marked enemies. We might even throw a curveball at you from time to time, like when an active modifier makes it so only pistols, headshots, or melee attacks do damage to enemies. As you take out enemies and complete objectives, you’ll earn in-game cash, which can be used to unlock and equip weapons and gear via arsenal crates around the map. You can buy everything from Heavy Weapons, long guns, Mysticals, and more.
Sony hasn’t announced a price for Uncharted 4’s Survival Mode yet, but if you’re planning to attend this year’s PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, you’ll be able to test out the downloadable expansion at Naughty Dog’s Booth.
Mages of Mystralia will cast a spell on the PS4 (and maybe the Xbox One) in Spring 2017
Earlier this week Borealys Games announced their upcoming action RPG, Mages of Mystralia, will also be released for the PS4 in Spring 2017. Already in development for the PC, the announcement was made on the PlayStation Blog, along with the release of a new trailer and a bit more information about the game’s backstory:
To feel powerful and wise, you must first know what it’s like to be weak and unwise. In Mages of Mystralia, you play as Zia, a young girl who discovers one day that she has the gift of magic. In the Mystralia universe, magic is known to exist, but it is rare — and illegal. Zia goes into exile on a quest to learn the ways of magic and master her skills. Along the way, she discovers runes which can be combined in different ways to create new spells.
Mages of Mystralia’s spellcasting is said to give players “potentially millions of ways” to craft new spells, and PS4 fans will get the chance to test out a demo of the game’s magic system next month at the PlayStation Experience in Anaheim.
Dan Adelman, Mages of Mystralia’s PR Guru, also revealed that Borealys is in discussions with Microsoft to bring the game to the Xbox One. While Adelman didn’t have anything official to announce just yet, he said on Twitter that the talks have produced “positive vibes all around.”
Persona 5 pushed back to April 4; Dual Japanese/English audio announced
Today has been a big day for fans of the Persona franchise… and not all of it has been good news. That’s because Atlus announced today that Persona 5 will miss its previously-scheduled February 14 launch date. Instead, the game will now be available for the PS4 and PS3 on April 4, 2017.
However, it’s not all bad news. Atlus also announced that everyone who purchases Persona 5 will have the option to download a Japanese voiceover for the game. And whether you buy Persona 5 at launch, or years from now, Atlus will offer the Japanese voiceover as a free download.
But wait, there’s more. The publisher also unveiled a new trailer for Persona 5, “Learn How the Phantom Thieves Live Dual Lives,” which has been embedded above. And if you want to outfit your PS4 in Persona 5’s rather distinctive red and black color scheme, a free Theme is available to download today only from the PlayStation Store.
Finally, Atlus is hosting a Persona 5 livestream on Twitch, so tune in now or catch up with the replay later. And if you’re planning to attend next PlayStation Experience event in Anaheim, be sure to head down to the Atlus Booth to try out a playable demo of Persona 5.
These are the publishers and developers attending PlayStation Experience 2016
The 2016 PlayStation Experience is roughly three weeks away, and Sony wants to prepare all their fans for the big show with the announcement of a “near-final” list of publishers and developers that’ll be attending.
According to the PlayStation Blog, 67 companies have signed up to showcase their wares at the Anaheim Convention Center on December 3rd and 4th. We don’t for sure what games each of these companies will have on display, but it’s easy to assume that Polyphony Digital will deliver an update on Gran Turismo Sport, Guerrilla Games will show off Horizon: Zero Dawn, and SIE Japan Studios will offer one final tease for The Last Guardian.
Here’s a look at the complete list of exhibitors scheduled to appear at the 2016 PlayStation Experience (so far)…

It’s an impressive list, but I’m sure you’re asking yourself, what’s Naughty Dog up to? And where’s Insomniac and Sucker Punch? Sony surely has a lot of surprises up their sleeve, but like Veruca Salt, I want to know now.
Akuma is coming to Street Fighter V in 2017
Capcom has been adding new characters to Street Fighter V since its launch in February, and Season 1 concluded a few months ago with the launch of Urien. But during the conclusion of the Capcom Cup North America Finals at Red Bull Battle Grounds last night, the publisher kicked off Season 2 with a huge fan favorite… Akuma.
Akuma has always been a mysterious character, and the short teaser embedded above is all we have to go on right now. However, Game Informer discovered something interesting about the kanji emblazoned on Akuma’s costume:
One curious thing to note: The symbol on Akuma’s back this time around is not the traditional “Heaven” Kanji, but the one for “god” over the one for “man” – the same combination that appeared when he transformed into his ultimate form, Shin Akuma, in Capcom Vs. SNK 2. This could hint at what his abilities in Street Fighter V might be.
Akuma will be available to download sometime in 2017, but if you plan to attend the 2016 PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, you’ll be able to test out the character in Capcom’s Booth on December 3rd and 4th.
PlayStation Experience 2016 will invade Anaheim on December 3rd and 4th
For the third year in a row, Sony will host a PlayStation Experience event for fans in December. This year, the platform-specific game show will travel to Anaheim, California on December 3rd and 4th.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the 2016 PlayStation Experience will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center, and tickets are available to purchase now through PlayStation.com. Fans who purchase a Two-Day ticket before October 16 will be able to lock in their spot for $60. But all Two-Day tickets sold after that date will be priced at $75. Saturday-Only and Sunday-Only tickets are also available.
It’s unknown what Sony and their third-party partners will bring to this year’s event, but a teaser video included quick glimpses of Horizon: Zero Dawn, The London Heist, Shadow of the Colossus, and Gran Turismo Sport. Fans will also be able to check out the PS4 Pro on the show floor, as well as PlayStation VR, developer panels, a merchandise booth, and the PlayStation Showcase keynote.
