Latest Pokken Tournament trailer introduces Shadow Mewtwo
Shadow Mewtwo makes his Pokken Tournament debut in the latest trailer for the Pokemon-themed fighting game, but don’t expect much else from the video embedded above. The “new” trailer is virtually identical to the announcement trailer that was first released by The Pokemon Company back in August. But if you can’t get enough of Pokemon beating the snot out of each other, the Play button is ready and waiting.
Bandai Namco’s Tekken team is currently hard at work on Pokken Tournament and the fighting game will launch exclusively for the Wii U in Spring 2016.
Pokken Tournament is coming to the Wii U in Spring 2016… anybody surprised?
About a year ago, Bandai Namco announced Pokken Tournament, a Tekken-styled fighting game that starred characters from the Pokemon franchise. At the time, the publisher said the game would only be available as an arcade machine, but we all knew that was a half-truth at best.
Today, the other Pokeball opened as The Pokemon Company announced that Pokken Tournament will receive a worldwide release on the Wii U in Spring 2016.
You can check out the announcement trailer above to get your fill of Pokemon-on-Pokemon violence, and be sure to stick around for the whole thing. The closing seconds of the trailer give us our first glimpse at “Pikachu Libre,” a never-before-seen evolution of Pikachu dressed in Lucha Libre garb. Pikachu Libre will make his debut in the Wii U version of Pokken Touranment.
Nintendo has been very quiet on the subject of Pokken Tournament ever since it was announced, but presumably they’ll have some part to play in publishing the game.
Pokken Tournament, the Pokemon fighting game, has a new trailer
Pokken Tournament, the Tekken-like Pokemon fighting game from Bandai Namco, will be available in Japanese arcades this Summer. We still don’t know if the game will ever be released in America or if a Wii U port is in the planning stages (though I’m pretty confident both will happen at some point), but the publisher has recently released a new Japanese-language trailer.
Watch Pikachu and the rest of his Pokemon pals battle it out in the game’s arenas and bask in the knowledge that Nintendo still has a few unannounced Wii U games planned for release this year. Yup, I would be utterly shocked if Pokken Tournament isn’t released for the Wii U this year or sometime in 2016.
Pokemon Company announces Pokken Tournament, an arcade-only fighting game
Last week, The Pokemon Company promised a “shocking” announcement related to the long-running franchise. This morning, we got our first glimpse at their new project and, I have to admit, I’m pretty shocked.
The Pokemon Company is teaming up with Bandai Namco to produce a Tekken-like 3D fighter known as Pokken Tournament. Katsuhiro Harada, the Producer behind the Tekken series, will oversee the game, which will be available in Japanese arcades beginning next year. A Wii U launch wasn’t announced, but it’s certainly a possibility, especially since Nintendo and Bandai Namco are already working together on this year’s Super Smash Bros. 4.
You can find the teaser trailer for Pokken Tournament embedded above.
