XBLA Today: ToeJam & Earl Collection, Karateka
A pair of remakes come to the Xbox Live Arcade today.
First up is the Sega Vintage Collection: ToeJam & Earl, which collects the Genesis classics ToeJam & Earl and ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron for the nice price of 800 Microsoft Points ($10):
Join aliens ToeJam and Earl in their adventures across space in classic titles ToeJam & Earl and ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron! This classic journey of two funky aliens has been updated for release on Xbox Live Arcade! Earn all new Achievements, complete challenging new game trials, and take on zany Earthlings with a friend in two player co-op across Xbox Live!
Also available this week (and also priced at 800 Microsoft Points) is Karateka, a remake of Jordan Mechner’s first game:
From Prince of Persisa creator Jordan Mechner, the original side-scrolling karate classic comes to XBLA with art by Jeff Matsuda (The Batman) and music by Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin (Civilization IV). Fight to save the lovely Mariko from the evil warlord Akuma and reunite her with her True Love!
ToeJam & Earl boogie to PSN, XBLA this November
Sega announced recently that classic 16-bit characters ToeJam & Earl will be crash landing onto the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network on November 7th. Don’t get your hopes up for a new outing, though; we’re just getting emulated versions of ToeJam & Earl and its sequel, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron. The two titles will be available separately on PSN for $4.99 each and available as a bundle, Sega Vintage Collection: ToeJam & Earl, on XBLA for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Per the Sega Blog:
In the original ToeJam & Earl, players have to help the alien duo explore the craziest planet they’ve ever visited: Earth! After a rough crash landing, pieces of their spaceship have been scattered across a giant, constantly-changing landscape. Help them avoid hazards and collect all the pieces so they can get home to planet Funkotron.
Genesis sequel ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, meanwhile, has our alien heroes return safely to their home planet only to discover that their ship had stowaways! Funkotron is now infested with wild Earthlings who need to be put into jars and shipped back home.
I know a lot of people are looking for a new TJ&E; let’s hope enough people purchase these re-released games to warrant a new title.
