Street Fighter V: Karin joins the fight + Capcom Fighters Network community tool revealed
And then there were 12 (well, 13 if count Blanka’s unofficial reveal). During this week’s Tokyo Game Show, Capcom revealed that Karin Kanzuki (who was last seen in Street Fighter Alpha 3) will be joining the cast of Street Fighter V.
Karin is held in high regard by the Street Fighter community and actually came in seventh in a Popularity Poll held in 2013. And believe or not, but she was also the most popular character among Japanese respondents. Capcom considers Karen a “well-rounded” fighter with a wide variety of attacks at her disposal:
About Karin
Behind Karin’s golden locks and razer-sharp wit lies a true martial artist trained in the unique “Kanzuki” style of fighting. Utilizing her new dash move allows her to close distances quickly with her opponents and go in for quick high-low attacks or throws. Her well-rounded skills allow her to possess a full set of tools and deploy a wide array of strikes and maneuvers that will have opponents feeling the pressure. For fans who’ve longed for her return, or for those just looking for a quick fighter with lots of versatility, Karin is a welcome addition to Street Fighter V!V-Skill: Meioken
Karin lunges forward with a devastating palm strike that dissipates projectiles and knocks down the opponent if it connects, all while helping to build her V-Trigger gauge. By holding down the buttons, players can charge the move for a split second, giving it better hit and block properties.V-Trigger: Kanzuki-Ryu Guren No Kata
Karin channels her inner Ki to unlock the true potential of the Kanzuki fighting style, giving her access to the Guren Ken attack, which in itself possesses over half a dozen different follow ups and variations. After the initial Guren Ken, she is able to transition immediately into an overhead attack, a low sweep, a flying throw, another quick set of strikes, or even a backdash to bait out counterattacks. This gives her immense flexibility in controlling the flow of the fight, ensuring that she comes out on top.
The Capcom Fighters Network (CFN), a community management tool for Street Fighter V, was also unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Game Show. According to the Capcom-Unity blog, players will be able to use CFN to see where battles are happening with a “heat map,” view player profiles and detailed match statistics, designate another player as a “rival” and monitor their performance, and search for match replays. A few screenshots showing CFN in action are available at the publisher’s community site and it looks like it could be a great way to analyze your Street Fighter V performance.
Street Fighter V will be released for the PC and PS4 in Spring 2016.
The wind-controlling Rashid is the second new character to be added to Street Fighter V
After revealing Necalli, Street Fighter V‘s first original fighter, Capcom promised that three additional new characters would be part of the game’s final roster. Yesterday, the second original character, Rashid, made his debut at the Games 15 event in Dubai.
Introduced by Street Fighter Series Producer Yoshinori Ono, Rashid is a Middle Eastern character who can control punishing gusts of wind. He is also said to have “an affinity for technology” and a “casual” fighting style. You can take a look at Rashid’s parkour-inspired moves in the trailer embedded, while the Capcom-Unity blog has revealed a bit more about the character, including his V-Skills and V-Triggers:
About Rashid
Joining the series from the Middle East, Rashid is an easy going and laid back character that has a very keen interest in technology and the latest gadgets on the market. His fighting style takes cues from parkour and he mixes it up with his unique ability to harness the power of wind. Always first in line to buy new tech, he uses these devices to research and create his fast-paced acrobatic moves, leaving his opponents in the dust and wondering what’s coming next.V-Skill 1 (MP+MK): Front Flip
Rashid performs a high flying flip over the opponent. Pressing kick during the Front Flip results in Rashid performing a divekick.V-Skill 2 (Down+MP+MK): Rolling Assault
Rashid closes the gap between himself and the opponent with a quick front roll. Pressing kick during Rolling Assault results in Rashid kicking upward at the opponent.V-Trigger (HP+HK): Ysaar
Rashid throws out a slow moving whirlwind that closes in on the opponent and causes damage to them if they touch it. While the whirlwind is out, Rashid can use it to increase his movement on any attack that propels him forward.
Capcom previously announced plans to include 16 characters in Street Fighter V when its released for the PC and PS4 in Spring 2016. Rashid is the 12th character announced so far, after Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Cammy, Vega, M. Bison, Birdie, Charlie Nash, Necalli, R. Mika, and Blanka (who remains officially unannounced, though he was all but confirmed two months ago). So that means there’s still four more character reveals to come, including two more brand new fighters.
Rainbow Mika joins Street Fighter V and will be playable at PAX Prime this weekend
Capcom has announced that Rainbow Mika, or R. Mika as she’s more commonly known, is the latest character to be added to Street Fighter V. Not only that, but the wrestler will be included in Street Fighter V’s playable PAX Prime demo, which will available in Capcom’s booth (#3103) this weekend in Seattle. If you’re unfamiliar with R. Mika (her only previous appearance is in Street Fighter Alpha 3), here’s what Capcom had to say about her on the Capcom-Unity blog:
As an aspiring young wrestler, Mika dreamed of one day becoming a star in the ring, much like her idol Zangief. Training under the strict tutelage of her coach, she traveled the world engaging in random matches with street fighters in order to spread her name and popularity. R. Mika’s wrestling prowess will be on full display in Street Fighter V, as she dazzles opponents with a wide variety of high-flying moves. This time around, her wrestling tag-team partner Nadeshiko assists in the fight! By calling Nadeshiko at the right time using R. Mika’s V-Trigger ability, players will be able to set up sneaky attacks and punishing command grab mix-ups that are sure to deliver devastating amounts of damage. Players who enjoy putting on a stunning display of fear-inducing close-combat guessing games will find R. Mika a colorful and rewarding way to play.
V-Skill: Mic Performance
R. Mika pulls out her trusty microphone and gives a heart-pumping monologue to the crowd. The longer the buttons are held down, the more powerful her normal and special throws become! During her monologue state, she is able to absorb one hit from the opponent and can also cancel the speech at any time by letting go of the buttons, causing her to fling the mic at the opponent.V-Trigger: Nadeshiko (3 Variations)
Now this is wrestling! Depending on the direction held during the V-Trigger activation, R. Mika’s faithful tag-team partner will deliver a surprising, high flying attack at the opponent from different angles: neutral (body splash from above), hold back (dropkick from the front), hold forward (dropkick from behind). The different variations keep opponents guessing and afraid to hit buttons, perfectly setting up R. Mika’s damaging command throws.
Street Fighter V will be released for the PC and PS4 in Spring 2016.
Vega claws his way into Street Fighter V and is playable at Gamescom 2015
Vega’s vain and dandyish style are on full display in his debut trailer, as Capcom has confirmed the character has officially joined the ranks of Street Fighter V‘s roster. Announced as part of the publisher’s pre-Gamescom activities, Capcom has even given “The Spanish Ninja” a no-claw fight style for the first in the franchise’s history:
Vega brings with him a brand new set of tricks, as well as a new appearance. Still possessing his trademark speed and quickness, he now has access to two distinct fighting modes: claw or no-claw. With the no-claw style giving him access to command grabs as well as new attack properties, players will need to toggle between both styles to pull off that winning KO at the end of the fight. Vega’s powerful V-Trigger is the Bloody Kiss, which sees him throw a rose at high velocity towards his opponent, before he charges at full speed right behind it, delivering a series of brutal attacks. This Spanish matador is definitely a fighter to keep your eye on, if you can.
Vega will be part of Street Fighter V’s playable Gamescom demo, which is available at Sony’s booth (C-020) in Hall 7. We’ll all get a chance to play the game when its released for the PC and PS4 in Spring 2016.
Capcom postpones first Street Fighter V beta test
Street Fighter V‘s first beta test began last Thursday, July 23, but players struggled with poor connections and server issues. Yesterday, Capcom announced (via the Capcom-Unity blog) that they would postpone the rest of the test due to these issues:
Capcom offers its sincerest apologies to everyone who participated in this first beta test. While the purpose of a beta is to work out these type of issues, it was very clear that the issues we faced were more severe than we were prepared for. After three days of testing, while we were making progress and collecting valuable data, we felt the majority of players were not having a good experience, and the best course of action would be to take the servers offline for extended maintenance. We will be postponing our first beta phase until we believe the experience is going to be a positive one for players.
After they get the kinks worked out, Capcom plans to offer at least three more beta tests before Street Fighter V’s Spring 2016 release. As a further apology, Capcom will also offer every player who missed out on the beta a “worthwhile in-game incentive.” Capcom will announce dates for future beta tests and more information about the “worthwhile in-game incentive” sometime in the future.
All Street Fighter V updates will be obtainable for free with in-game currency
In addition to announcing a brand new character that goes by the name Necalli, Capcom also confirmed that Street Fighter V won’t receive any “Super” or “Ultra” disc updates. Instead, players will be obtain the base game (which will include 16 characters, four of whom will be new) with a one-time purchase and receive all subsequent updates as downloadable content. Best of all, these updates can be obtained for free with the use of an in-game currency earned through gameplay.
Taking inspiration from a variety of free-to-play games in the mobile marketplace, Capcom will include “Fight Money” and “Zenny” currencies in Street Fighter V. Fight Money is earned through playing the game and can be exchanged for post-launch content such as characters and costumes. Meanwhile, Zenny is premium currency that can be purchased using real money for immediate access to any post-launch content.
This means that Capcom is not planning to release multiple characters in a single post-launch batch. Instead, the publisher will add new characters to the roster on a “continuous basis.” More information on Capcom’s ambitious plan for Street Fighter V’s post-launch content can be found at the Capcom-Unity blog.
Street Fighter V will be released for the PC and PS4 in Spring 2016.
Capcom adds new character Necalli to Street Fighter V
Street Fighter V finally received its first original fighter this weekend with the reveal of Necalli, a mysterious and savage fighter who reminds me a bit of Blanka. How mysterious is he? Capcom is still keeping his origin and storyline under wraps:
Possessing a wide variety of savage and close range attacks, all of Necalli’s moves have been forged through the heat of battle to ensure he’s inflicting maximum pain upon his opponents. Making full use of the Battle System mechanics, Necalli’s V-Skill allows him to pound the ground with both fists, creating an explosion that damages the enemy whereas the powerful V-Trigger allows him to channel a mysterious energy that changes his hair color and alters his personality for a short period of time. Capcom will be revealing more information on Necalli’s origin and storyline in the coming months so stay tuned for more details.
A trailer that showcases some of Necalli’s skills, which Capcom released as part of this weekend’s EVO event, has been embedded above. The character will be one of 16 (12 returning and four new) that will be available during Street Fighter V’s initial launch. Necalli joins the previously announced Ryu, Chun Li, M. Bison, Charlie Nash, Cammy, Birdie, Blanka, and Ken… so six more characters (three of them brand new) will be announced at a later date. As you might have guessed, more characters will eventually be added to Street Fighter V as post-launch downloadable content.
Street Fighter V will be released for the PC and PS4 in Spring 2016.
Ken (and his new ponytail) joins Street Fighter V’s roster
Capcom has announced that Ken Masters has become be the seventh character to join Street Fighter V‘s roster of playable characters. He’ll join the previously-announced septet of Ryu, Chun-Li, Charlie Nash, M. Bison, Cammy, Birdie, and (unofficially) Blanka.
While Ken is still clad in his familiar red karategi, the character got a haircut (check out that ponytail) and a set of fiery new combos. According to Capcom, he’ll also perform plenty of “tricky mix-ups and flashy combos” on his opponents, which you can see in the trailer embedded above.
Ken, and the rest of the revealed Street Fighter V roster, will be playable all this weekend at Capcom’s booth (#215) at the San Diego Comic-Con. And don’t forget, every PS4 owners who pre-orders Street Fighter V will gain access to the closed beta, which is scheduled to begin on July 23 at 9:00 PM (Eastern Time).
Street Fighter V will be released in Spring 2016 for the PS4 and PC.
