Donut County, Sundered, Road Redemption, more coming to Xbox Store this week
With the end of the year almost upon us, a growing black hole is coming to suck up all your free time. Coincidentally, the black hole at the center of Donut County slid onto the Xbox One as part of this week’s Xbox Games Store update.
Xbox One owners will also be able to download Sundered, a Lovecraftian-themed MetroidVania, and Road Redemption, two-wheeled combat from Pixel Dash Studios and EQ Games.
You can learn more about the rest of this week’s additions to the Xbox Games Store after the break. (more…)
PS Store This Week: Sundered, Pyre, Super Cloudbuilt, more
The indie titles keep coming on the PlayStation Store, and this week’s update includes three titles of particular interest…
Sundered is a side-scrolling MetroidVania from Thunder Lotus Games, and it’ll be available for the PS4 this Friday. Incorporating some terrifying Lovecraftian themes, players will fight for survival (and their sanity) in this hand-drawn adventure.
Also available for the PS4 this week is Pyre, a team-based Action RPG from Supergiant Games. Players will compete in a series of mystical competitions to help win freedom for their exiles in the Campaign, but they can also fight it out with friends in the Versus Mode.
Finally, Coilworks’s Super Cloudbuilt will bring a futuristic platforming (with a dash of parkour) to the PS4 this week.
You can learn more about all of these titles (and a few other new releases) after the break. (more…)
Thunder Lotus Games will unleash Sundered on July 28
Thunder Lotus Games has announced that PC and PS4 owners will get the chance to experience the Lovecraftian stylings of Sundered.
Featuring hand-drawn artwork similar to the developer’s first game, Jotun, Sundered is a Metroid-Vania that features procedurally-generated areas and a choice-based upgrade system (dubbed “Resist Or Embrace” by the developer) that can radically alter your abilities.
You can get a look at both halves of Sundered in the Launch Trailer embedded above.
Sony will bring 26 playable PS4 games to PAX East 2017
Sony has announced (via the PlayStation Blog, naturally) that they’re bringing 26 PS4 games to this year’s PAX East convention.
By giving attendees more than two dozen demo options, Sony will be able to showcase a wide variety of titles at their booth including AAA blockbusters (Gran Turismo Sport and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy), highly-anticipated indie offerings (Cosmic Star Heroine, Tooth & Tail, and What Remains of Edith Finch), and a few PlayStation VR curiosities (Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin and Farpoint).
Here’s a full look at the 26 PS4 games Sony will bring to PAX East 2017 (though a few of them are also in development for the Vita):

Thunder Lotus’s Sundered will be released in July 2017
Thunder Lotus Games has announced that Sundered, their upcoming MetroidVania-style side-scroller, will be released for the PC and PS4 in July 2017. The developer also confirmed plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign on Monday, January 16, to help with development costs and to gather feedback from their fans.
Sundered will include a procedurally-generated world map and random monster placement to encourage replayability. And like Thunder Lotus’s last game, Jotun, it’ll feature hand-drawn art for both the characters and the environments.
In case you missed it, you can get a sneak peek at Sundered’s visuals by viewing its Announcement Trailer, which was first revealed by Thunder Lotus last September.
Thunder Lotus announces Sundered, a Lovecraftian MetroidVania for the PC and PS4
Thunder Lotus Games recently launched Jotun for the PC, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One. The overhead action RPG features hand-drawn graphics and a storyline inspired by the Norse mythology. Yesterday, they announced their newest retro-inspired project, Sundered.
Infused with Lovecraftian themes, Sundered is a side-scrolling exploration shooter (or “MetroidVania,” if you prefer) where players will be asked to explore “ever-changing caverns teeming with eldritch horrors” and “harness the power of corrupted relics to defeat gigantic bosses.” Within its series of procedurally-generated levels, players will help Eshe navigate a ruined world as he fights for survival… and his sanity.
Sundered’s debut trailer has been embedded above, and it’ll be released for the PC and PS4 sometime in 2017. But in the more immediate future, attendees of this weekend’s TwitchCon will be able to try out a playable version of the game at Thunder Lotus’s booth.
