Well, this is an interesting development. Nintendo has announced that they’re working on an adapter that will allow GameCube controllers to be used with the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. 4:

Super Smash Bros. 4 will be available for the Wii U by the end of the year, but it’s currently unknown if the adapter will launch alongside it or at a later date. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about it during this year’s E3 Expo, which begins on June 9.

Super Smash Bros. 4 will be playable at more than 100 Best Buy stores next month

bestbuylogoAs promised, Nintendo has announced further details about the Super Smash Bros. 4 “Smashfest” that will be coming to Best Buy stores across the country next month. More than 100 Best Buy stores will play host to the same Super Smash Bros. 4 demo stations that Nintendo is bringing to this year’s E3 Expo on Wednesday, June 11 (from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM) and Saturday, June 14 (from noon to 5:00 PM). A complete list of every participating store can be found on Best Buy’s website.

In addition to the demo stations, Best Buy also wants to sell you a copy of Super Smash Bros. 4. So the first 70 people who pre-order the game at each store will receive a “rare collectible Super Smash Bros. gold coin.” Each pre-ordered copy of Super Smash Bros. 4 will also include a $5 My Best Buy Rewards Zone gift certificate.

Super Smash Bros. 4 will be available for the 3DS sometime this Summer with the Wii U edition scheduled to launch by the end of the year.

Continue Countdown #3 – CoD Advanced Warfare, MS @ E3 2014, Mario Kart 8, More

The film industry uses the opening of blockbuster season to signify the start of Summer. Meanwhile, the video game industry sets its seasonal clock by Activision and the announcement of the next Call of Duty game. This year’s entry stars Kevin Spacey and the staff of Warp Zoned took the time to debate his inclusion in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in the latest episode of “Continue Countdown.”

After that, the trio of Editor-In-Chief John Scalzo, Staff Writer Mike Ryan, and special guest Adam Woolcott talked about the expunging of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, and the unearthing of Atari’s E.T. landfill. Next, they examined Microsoft’s Xbox Originals film production plan and their possible E3 2014 announcements before turning to Nintendo and Fatal Frame 5‘s Japanese exclusivity, Mario Kart 8‘s free game deal, and Super Smash Bros. 4‘s Best Buy debut. Finally, we say goodbye to Bob “Mario Mario” Hoskins.

Play Super Smash Bros. 4 at Best Buy during E3 2014

nintendologo

It looks like Nintendo’s low-key E3 showing was a hit last year as the consolemaker plans to expand on the festivities for this year’s Expo… while still remaining low-key.

Instead of a Nintendo Direct video presentation, this year, Nintendo plans to offer a “Nintendo Digital Event” on Tuesday, June 10 at 12:00 PM (Eastern). Nintendo is calling the Digital Event “a new kind of video program that will reveal and provide further detail about the gaming experiences on the way for Nintendo platforms in 2014 and beyond.” So basically, it’s exactly like a Nintendo Direct video, only bigger.

Nintendo will also add a second video program to their slate of E3 programming, “Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3.” The Treehouse team is the company’s main product development team and they will provide “in-depth game demos live and unscripted from Nintendo’s booth” throughout the entire E3 Expo.

Finally, Nintendo will install a playable demo of one of this year’s biggest games in Best Buy stores across the country. I speak, of course, about Super Smash Bros. 4 for the Wii U. A list of participating Best Buy stores will be viewable via e3.Nintendo.com very soon.

Continue Countdown #2 – The Evil Within, Borderlands: Pre-Sequel, Super Mario 20, More

The second episode of Warp Zoned’s “Continue Countdown” is now available to watch through our YouTube channel. It’s a PAX East kind of show as Editor-In-Chief John Scalzo, Staff Writer Mike Ryan, and special guest Adam Woolcott discuss the blandness of The Evil Within, the bizarreness of The Behemoth’s Game 4, and the baffling choice to put Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The trio also delves into the Console War Between the PS4 and Xbox One, next-gen remakes like The Last of Us Remastered, and whether the inclusion of Marvel characters will affect our decision to purchase Disney Infinity 2.0. Finally, they looked at yet another piece of Beyond Good & Evil 2 concept art, the release date gap between the 3DS and Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. 4, and the quasi-announcement of Super Mario Bros. 20.

Direct from Nintendo… Super Smash Bros. 4 launches for 3DS this Summer, Wii U in Winter

They’re still not ready to reveal the final title, but Nintendo has confirmed that Super Smash Bros. 4 will be available for the 3DS this Summer with the Wii U release to follow sometime in the Winter. The news comes via a new Nintendo Direct video that included a multitude of other announcements:

  • New Characters! Greninja, the final evolution of Froakie from Pokemon X/Y, will be included in a Smash Bros. game for the first time. It will be joined by returning favorites Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, Yoshi, and Charizard.
  • Smash Run Mode! “Exclusive to the 3DS, four players have five minutes to enter a dungeon and explore the surroundings, fight enemies and obtain power-ups to enhance their fighters. Once the five minutes are up, all four fighters enter a battle arena using their newly equipped items and power-ups.”
  • Custom Movesets! Players will be able to create custom movesets for all characters.
  • Online Play! Online multiplayer will be included on both systems in two flavors… “For Glory” is a straight fight in Final Destination stages with no items, elevated areas, or platforms. “For Fun” includes random stages, items, and power-ups.
  • Unique Stages! While the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game will feature similar stages, they will be unique on each platform. Wii U stages will be based on home console entries in a franchise while 3DS stages will draw inspiration from the handheld entries in the franchise.
  • Bosses! Some stages will have boss characters that can be drawn into the fight. For example, the Rock Monster (AKA the Yellow Devil) will guard Dr. Wily’s Base.
  • System Link! The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. 4 will link up with the Wii U version in some way. More details later.

That’s all for now, but the complete Nintendo Direct video can be viewed above.

Gonna Fly Now! Little Mac joins Super Smash Bros. 4

After taking out Mike Tyson, putting Mr. Dream to sleep, bashing Nick Bruiser, and saying night-night to Mr. Sandman, Little Mac has made quite the name for himself in the World Video Boxing Association. Naturally, he needs a new challenge, so he’s gonna fly now to Super Smash Bros. 4 for the 3DS and Wii U.

Super Smash Bros. 4 still doesn’t have a release date, but with the inclusion of Little Mac (and Mega Man), it now has my pre-order money.
