The Last of Us Remastered is still coming to the PS4 this Summer with a graphics upgrade and all the downloadable content from the PS3 release. But now naughty Dog has given us visual proof in the form of a teaser trailer. Enjoy!
Sony officially announces The Last of Us Remastered for PS4
After that rather embarrassing PlayStation Store leak this morning, Sony has officially gone ahead and announced that The Last of Us Remastered will be released for the PS4 this Summer.
The Last of Us Remastered will be developed by Naughty Dog and will include all of the downloadable content currently planned for the PS3 edition including the “Left Behind” expansion, the “Abandoned Territories” map pack, and the upcoming “Reclaimed Territories” pack. The PS4 edition of the game will also feature 1080p visuals and optional commentary from Creative Director Neil Druckmann, Troy Baker (Joel), and Ashley Johnson (Ellie).
If you’re interested in pre-ordering The Last of Us Remastered, you’ll net yourself a few in-game bonuses including:
- 100 Supply Points (XP) for use in Factions mode
- Two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie which will be unlocked after you complete the Single-Player Campaign
- Increased Crafting Speed for use in the Single-Player Campaign
- Increased Healing Speed for use in the Single-Player Campaign
- 9mm Reload Speed Increase Upgrade for use in the Single-Player Campaign
- Rifle Clip Capacity Increase Upgrade for use in the Single-Player Campaign
And if you pre-order the digital version from the PlayStation Store, you’ll receive all of the above as well as a trio of bonuses for the game’s Factions multiplayer mode:
- Early Access to the Brawler Survival Skill
- Early Access to additional Loadout Points
- Early Access to the Jeep Cap and Surgical Mask
On the PlayStation Blog, Naughty Dog has promised they will reveal more details about The Last of Us Remastered soon.
Sony confirms The Last of Us Remastered to be released for PS4
A banner ad currently in rotation on the PlayStation Store has confirmed that Sony and Naughty Dog will bring The Last of Us to the PS4 in an enhanced edition known as The Last of Us Remastered.
The PS4 edition of the game will be priced at $59.99 and will be available through the PlayStation and as a retail disc release. However, when it will be available is the big queston as clicking on the banner ad returns a “Page Not Found” error. It’s also unknown if The Last of Us Remastered will include the Left Behind expansion, but I’m going to go out on a limb and assume it will as including downloadable content is par for the course for this kind of re-release.
Keep your eyes peeled to the PlayStation Blog, I’m sure an official announcement with all of these details is imminent.

The Last of Us wins Game of the Year at 2014 GDC Awards
The 2014 Game Developers Choice Awards were handed out last night and The Last of Us took home “Game of the Year.” Naughty Dog’s unquestioned dominance in this year’s awards season really makes you wonder, does it ever get boring for Neil Druckmann and company? I’m guessing no, but after winning several BAFTAs, multiple DICE Awards, the Writer’s Guild Award for Videogame Writing, and a Warp Zoned Golden Pixel Award, it stops being surprising. In addition to being selected as “Game of the Year,” The Last of Us was also honored with the “Best Game Design” and “Best Narrative” awards.
But The Last of Us wasn’t the only winner last night. Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was picked as the “Best Handheld/Mobile Game” while IGF darling Papers Please took home the award for “Best Downloadable Game” as well as the “Innovation Award.”
The only other multi-award winner of the night was BioShock Infinite, which was recognized for its sights and sounds with the “Best Visual Art” and “Best Audio” awards. Finally, the low-key Gone Home (and its developer, The Fullbright Company) was picked as the “Best Debut” while the bombastic Grand Theft Auto V took home “Best Technology.”
The full list of this year’s winners can be found after the break. (more…)
The Last of Us takes home Best Game at 2014 BAFTA Awards
The 2014 BAFTA Awards were handed out yesterday in London and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us was crowned the big winner of the night. The Last of US was declared “Best Game” by the British Academy and also took home four additional awards: “Action and Adventure,” “Story,” “Performer” (for Ashley Johnson’s portrayal of Ellie), and “Audio Achievement.”
The Last of Us, an American game, shared the spotlight with two distinctly British titles. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V (“Best British Game,” “Game Design,” and “Multiplayer”) and Media Molecule’s Tearaway (“Mobile & Handheld,” “Family,” and “Artistic Achievement”) won three awards apiece.
The remainder of the awards were split between a handful of games and you can check out the complete list of winners after the break. (more…)
Sony is bringing The Last of Us to a movie theater near you
Screen Gems, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures, has revealed (via Deadline) that they will distribute a film adaptation of one of 2013’s best-loved games: The Last of Us. The company will partner with Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures to produce the film and they have given huge amounts of creative control to Naughty Dog, the development team behind the game. Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells, Christophe Balestra, and Bruce Straley will serve as “creative architects” on the film along with Creative Director Neil Druckmann, who will also write the screenplay.
Casting for The Last of Us will be crucial to the film’s success as fans have fallen in love with Joel and Ellie and the actors who provide their voices (Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, respectively). It’s unlikely that they’ll reprise their roles in the film as Baker has never acted in a live-action production before and Johnson is more than a decade older than the teenage Ellie. Ellen Page, who turned 27 a few weeks ago and bears more than a passing resemblence to Ellie, is likely also too old to portray the teenager.
A search for a director has also begun and Raimi would seemingly be a perfect fit, though its unknown if he’ll have anything to do with the film besides offering his services as a producer. Plus, he’s got Army of Darkness 2 currently in development.
In recent years, Screen Gems is probably best known as the studio behind the Resident Evil film series, so they’re certainly familiar with adapting beloved game franchises.
Grounded: The Making of The Last of Us documentary is available from Amazon for free
The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s immersive, third-person action survival game, took the world by storm last year. It was almost universally loved and won many awards. But the Dogs were coming off of years of making Uncharted games, and it wasn’t the easiest road.
Grounded: The Making of The Last of Us is a documentary that follows the developers on their journey to create this game. It was previously available to Season Pass holders, but right now, it’s available for free on Amazon. It’s 95 minutes long, and will fill that hole you’ve had since you finished the Left Behind DLC.
UPDATE: The entire film has been posted to YouTube as well. Watch it right here after the break. (more…)
