Fear the infected in the latest gameplay video for The Last of Us
The Last of Us is creeping ever closer to its Spring release date and, on the most recent episode of GameTrailers TV, the developers at Naughty Dog revealed the infected for the first time.
Known as “runner” and “clickers,” the infected in The Last of Us are shuffling monsters that are also quite deadly. Check out the interview/gameplay video above and continue counting down until May 7.
God of War: Ascension buyers get first crack at The Last of Us demo
Good news everyone! Sony is planning to release a demo for The Last of Us before the game’s May 7 release. And there’s even more good news if you plan on purchasing God of War: Ascension… you’ll receive early access to the demo!
According to Sony, the demo content is still “to be determined,” and it’s unknown whether the demo will include a single-player level or a multiplayer preview or both.
I guess what we’re saying is that this isn’t the last you’ve heard of the demo for The Last of Us.
The Last of Us multiplayer mode, pre-order bonuses announced
If you watched the 2012 Spike TV Video Game Awards, you know that Sony has given Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us a May 7, 2013 release date. But did you also know it’ll include a multiplayer mode?
Naughty Dog has been dropping hints about a multiplayer mode for awhile now, but now it’s finally a sure thing. The news comes via the announcement of a pre-order bonus pack for the game offered through GameStop. Players who secure their copy of The Last of Us early will receive access to the Survival Pack, which will include the following multiplayer-specific swag…
- Bonus Experience Points
- Multiplayer Melee Attack Booster
- Extra In-Game Currency
- Special Customizable Character Items
- Special Bonus Skins for Joel and Ellie (Unlocked Once Single-Player Campaign is Completed)
If you prefer to buy your games elsewhere, other retailers will be offering the Sights & Sounds Pack as a pre-order bonus. It’ll contain a downloadable soundtrack, a PS3 Dynamic Theme, and two PSN Avatars (Winter Joel and Winter Ellie).
More details on The Last of Us’s multiplayer mode will be revealed soon and don’t forget to watch the Spike TV VGA trailer again.
Spike TV VGAs: The Last of Us will be released on May 7
For the first time, we get to see the characters we know from The Last of Us interact with other groups of survivors. “Once upon a time,” a character says as the trailer begins, “I had somebody I cared about. And in this sort of world, that’s only good for one thing: getting you killed.” There’s more gameplay, more gamescape, and more of those crazy rage monsters. Naughty Dog has hit it out of the park yet again.
I can’t wait until The Last of Us’s release on May 7.
2012 Spike TV Video Game Awards nominees announced
It’s hard to believe that Spike TV has been handing out their Video Game Awards for ten years, but that’s exactly what will happen when the 2012 edition of the awards shows airs on Spike TV (and simulcast on Xbox Live) this December.
Once again hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, this year’s “Game of the Year” will come from a list that includes Assassin’s Creed III, Dishonored, Journey, Mass Effect 3, and The Walking Dead. Journey actually scored seven total nominations, making it one the most honored games at the 2012 VGAs (an honor it shares with Halo 4 and Borderlands 2).
This year’s slate of “Spike TV VGA World Premiere Trailers” (always the highlight of every VGA show) will include several unannounced projects as well as hugely anticipated 2013 releases like The Last of Us, Gears of War: Judgment, and South Park: The Stick of Truth.
The 2012 Spike TV Video Game Awards will take place on Friday, December 7. The complete list of nominees can be found after the break. (more…)
Naughty Dog shows more of The Last of Us at Gamescom
Naughty Dog has unveiled a new trailer for its survival action-adventure The Last of Us specifically for the Gamescom expo taking place in Cologne, Germany. It starts with a new cinematic before launching into previously seen in-game footage, cut to the warbling vocals of Hank Williams Sr. It moves with a tenacious pace, as the song cuts us with its apt lyrics, although I personally would like to see it edited to Hurt by Johnny Cash.
Actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson will be in attendance at this year’s Gamescom, explaining the depths they had to go to in order to convey their performances as the post-apocalyptic survivors Joel and Ellie. There will also be a playable demo, so expect to see more about The Last of Us in the coming days.
Meet Bill the survivalist in the newest trailer for The Last of Us
Naughty Dog’s Comic-Con panel included another trailer for The Last of Us, this time introducing us to Bill, a survivalist and someone who owes Joel a favor:
The masked man turns out to be a new character named Bill, who knows Joel somehow and, as you can see in the cinematic, owes him a favor. What for? Well, we’re not talking about that yet but you’ll definitely be hearing more about Bill and what makes him tick in the months rolling up to launch. For starters, we also revealed that Bill is voiced by accomplished Hollywood actor, W. Earl Brown.
Bill and Ellie don’t get along at first, but the cinematic does set up a fetch quest for some car parts. And don’t worry, the infected appear to be right behind them.
The Last of Us will presumably be released sometime in 2013. Not that any of us want to wait that long.
Someone recreated the “Truck Ambush” trailer for The Last of Us in LittleBigPlanet 2
One of the big things that Naughty Dog has done with The Last of Us so far is emphasize the brutal nature of the world that Joel and Ellie live in. So what better way to find the humor in apocalyptic fungus than by recreating the especially violent “Truck Ambush” trailer in LittleBigPlanet 2?
There are some days when I just love the Internet.
