The Golden Pixel Awards 2012: Gaming’s Best, Worst, and Everything Else
Welcome to Warp Zoned’s second annual Golden Pixel Awards. It was definitely a good year for gaming. With the fight over Mass Effect 3‘s ending, the resurrection of Sleeping Dogs, and the launch of the Wii U, we were treated to 12 months of interesting stories.
So sit back and relax as we reward the best (and worst) games of 2012 with a series of accolades based on their rather unique accomplishments.
The Apocalypse List
The bombs have fallen, the economy has collapsed, food is scarce, the zombie hordes are scratching at your door, and you’ve boarded yourself up in a bunker that’ll stand for a hundred years. What better way to spend your time in “The Vault” than by playing Warp Zoned’s favorite games from 2012? It doesn’t matter if you call it a “Top Ten List” or “Our Favorites From 2012,” but these are the games we plan to keep playing even if there was no game industry to keep making games. (more…)
New Releases: Walking Dead Complete Season, 007 Legends for Wii U, More
Telltale’s episodic adventure game based on The Walking Dead has finally been collected and compiled for a disc-based release and it’ll be available in stores this week for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The timing couldn’t be better, especially after its big win at the 2012 Spike TV Video Game Awards on Friday.
Also available this week is the Wii U version of 007 Legends, the adventure game Haunted for the PC, and a Pets and Vets Bundle for the DS.
That’s it for this week’s new releases and that’s likely it for 2012 as well.
The Walking Dead shambles away as the big winner at the 2012 Spike TV VGAs
The tenth annual Spike TV Video Game Awards have been handed out and The Walking Dead has come away the big winner, trouncing more ambitious (and expensive) titles such as Halo 4 and Mass Effect 3.
The episodic adventure game based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book series won Game of the Year, Best Adapted Video Game and Best Downloadable Game. Developer Telltale Games also won Studio of the Year while Melissa Hutchinson was honored in the Best Performance By a Human Female category for her role as Clementine.
The other big winner of the night was thatgamecompany’s Journey, which nabbed three awards: Best PS3 Game, Best Independent Game, and Best Original Score. Gearbox’s Borderlands 2 also took home three awards: Best Shooter, Best Multiplayer Game, and Best Performance By a Human Male (Dameon Clarke as Handsome Jack). The viewer-voted Best Character award was also given to Borderlands 2’s Claptrap.
Hit the jump for a complete list of winners from this year’s Spike TV Video Game Awards, which also includes XCOM: Enemy Unknown, New Super Mario Bros. U, Sound Shapes, and many others. (more…)

2012 Spike TV Video Game Awards nominees announced
It’s hard to believe that Spike TV has been handing out their Video Game Awards for ten years, but that’s exactly what will happen when the 2012 edition of the awards shows airs on Spike TV (and simulcast on Xbox Live) this December.
Once again hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, this year’s “Game of the Year” will come from a list that includes Assassin’s Creed III, Dishonored, Journey, Mass Effect 3, and The Walking Dead. Journey actually scored seven total nominations, making it one the most honored games at the 2012 VGAs (an honor it shares with Halo 4 and Borderlands 2).
This year’s slate of “Spike TV VGA World Premiere Trailers” (always the highlight of every VGA show) will include several unannounced projects as well as hugely anticipated 2013 releases like The Last of Us, Gears of War: Judgment, and South Park: The Stick of Truth.
The 2012 Spike TV Video Game Awards will take place on Friday, December 7. The complete list of nominees can be found after the break. (more…)
Walking Dead Collector’s Edition includes 1088-page comic compendium
Telltale’s season one compilation of The Walking Dead will arrive in stores for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on December 4. But if you happen to find yourself inside a GameStop between now and then, you can also pre-order a special Collector’s Edition of the adventure game.
Priced at $69.99 and available only by pre-ordering, The Walking Dead: Collector’s Edition includes a PS3 or Xbox 360 game disc, a colorful box with artwork by Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard, and an exclusive edition of The Walking Dead: Compendium One. Compendium One is the 1088-page collected edition of the first 48 issues of the comic series and this exclusive version of the book includes a new cover with art by Adlard.
Compendium One‘s retail price is $59.99 by itself (though you can get it from Amazon for under $35), so this Collector’s Edition is a pretty good deal if you want to explore the origins of the comic series. Though exclusive cover art has certainly lured a comic fan or two to unnecessarily empty their wallet over the years.
XBLA Today: Walking Dead Episode 4, Naughty Bear 2, Worms Revolution
We’ve got two new Xbox Live Arcade titles to play with this week, including Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise, a sequel to the semi-popular teddy bear death simulator…
When the Bears of Perfection Island went on holiday to Paradise Island, Naughty Bear was not invited! Naughty Bear manages to secretly travel with the other bears, duct-taped to the exterior of the bus. With a list of bears who wronged him in hands, Naughty is ready to make them pay, one by one.
And Worms Revolution, the latest in the super-popular strategy series:
Worms Revolution sticks an exploding sheep under worm-on-worm conflict and blasts it squarely into the 21st century. With 32 single player missions, 20 single player puzzles, online or local multiplayer for up to 4 players, 3 multiplayer modes, customisation, worm classes and dynamic water!
Both games are available to download now for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15). Also available today, for 400 Microsoft Points ($5), is Around Every Corner, the fourth episode of The Walking Dead:
In the wake of terrible loss, the group arrives in Savannah in search of salvation from the horrors around them. Stalked by an unseen human threat and the constant menace of the undead, learn to deal with an increasingly paranoid group and how to protect Clementine.
PSN Today: Dishonored, Retro City Rampage, Walking Dead Episode 4, more
It’s another massive day for the PlayStation Store as Sony has added 15 titles to their digital marketplace.
The highlight of this week’s crop is most certainly Dishonored, Bethesda’s Victorian-era steampunk stealth game. But a slew of interesting titles became available today including the top-down madness of Retro City Rampage, the violent toys of Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise and the lumbering undead of The Walking Dead: Episode 4 – Around Every Corner.
More information on all of this week’s new additions can be found after the break and (as always) the PlayStation Blog has a fine rundown of this week’s new game add-ons. (more…)
