Madden NFL 13, Walking Dead Episode 3, Rock Band Blitz, more added to PS Store
As has been their custom all Summer long, Sony dumped another massive amount of games onto the PlayStation Store yesterday.
This week, PS3 gamers can download digital versions of Madden NFL 13 and Record of Agarest War Zero. Several previously bundled HD remakes can also now be had separately from the store including Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD, Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal.
Wait, we’re not done yet! Also available this week is Harmonix’s controller-based rhythm game Rock Band Blitz, The Walking Dead: Episode 3 – “Long Road Ahead” from Telltale Games, Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, and the PlayStation Move party game Lights, Camera, Party.
Sony also added a lone PS2 Classic to the store yesterday, Double Fine’s psychotic platformer, Psychonauts.
Finally, Vita owners will also get a chance to download Madden NFL 13 and the PSone Classics on Vita patch is now live, but it’s not exactly perfect. Vita support has officially been added to just thirteen PSone games.
A complete list of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog and more information on all of these new games can be found after the break. (more…)
The Walking Dead now available on App Store
Telltale Games has announced that the first episode of The Walking Dead has shambled onto the iTunes App Stores. Like it’s PC and console counterparts, “A New Day” is available to download now for $4.99.
According to Telltale, the remaining episodes will be added to the App Store “periodically” as in-game downloads. Each additional episode will also be priced at $4.99 with a 25% discount available for players who purchase an “Episode 2-5 Bundle” multi-pack.
The Walking Dead: Episode 2 Review: A Satisfying Second Course
The strength or weakness of an episodic series is its ability to keep the player interested in doing the same things in new situations after a significant break. Enabling the player to care about the characters is another important factor as well. These are things previous episodic Telltale games have stumbled at a bit. Sam & Max don’t exactly change, nor are we embroiled in their dramatic arcs. Marty and Doc seem to be fairly static characters as well who are on a mission specifically to prevent or reverse any change that might occur. But the characters in The Walking Dead are involved in a drama that pulls the player forward in a way that Sam & Max and Back to the Future never quite managed. (more…)
Walking Dead: Episode 2 now available on XBLA; coming Friday to PC, PSN
Telltale Games has announced that Episode 2 of The Walking Dead, “Starved for Help,” is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Gamers will have to have Episode 1 installed before they can play Episode 2.
“Starved for Help” will also be available on the PC and PSN this Friday. All three versions of the game have been priced at $4.99. In the meantime, you can check out the brand new trailer above.
The Walking Dead: Episode 3 will be available in late July.
Telltale sells one million downloads of The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead has been extremely successful for Telltale Games. How successful? It’s only the best-selling game the company has ever produced. According to the publisher, the first episode of the series, “A New Day,” has been downloaded over one million times on the PC, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade.
And after it scored a seven out of seven in our review, that’s none-too-surprising.
“Premiering The Walking Dead game series to record numbers across so many diverse platforms is a tremendous achievement that shows the value of bringing strong storytelling and game play together,” said Dan Connors, CEO of Telltale Games. “The tailored narrative design puts gamers in control of their own story within the universe of The Walking Dead in a way that appeals equally to hardcore gamers and to more casual gamers who are fans of the franchise. The most exciting aspect of getting off to such a great start is that this is just the beginning of the five episode series. The Walking Dead fans are going to experience some really great moments in the months ahead that are uniquely influenced by the choices they make throughout the season.”
The second episode in the series, “Starved For Help,” will be available in June.
The Walking Dead: Episode 1 Review: A New Day For Adventure Games
In a world where nearly every medium is overwhelmed by the undead, yet another zombie game seems gratuitous. Is there really anything more to say about the living dead? Telltale seems to think so. And, from the first episode of their new game series based on Robert Kirkman’s massively successful comic, The Walking Dead, I can’t help but agree. (more…)
