Get introduced to the world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in this gameplay trailer
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s May 19 release date is getting ever closer. To get gamers in the mood for all the witchin’ they’re about to do, CD Projekt Red has released a new gameplay trailer for the game. Introducing players to the world of the Northern Realms, the trailer explores the mountains, seas, and pubs that Geralt of Rivia will traverse to complete his mission:
In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt you become Geralt of Rivia, a monster slayer for hire. You take on the greatest contract of your life — tracking down the Child of Prophecy, a living weapon that can alter the shape of the world. Your journey will take you across the Northern Realms, a vast continent filled with merchant cities, mysterious islands, dangerous mountain passes, and forgotten caverns to explore. Hundreds of armor and weapon upgrades await you, with lethal sword and magic skills at your disposal.
The developers have previously described The Witcher 3 as 20% larger than Skyrim, but it’ll become even larger than that after the release of the two “massive” expansions that were announced earlier this week.
CD Projekt is developing two “massive” expansions for The Witcher 3
CD Projekt Red says they want to bring back “a time when add-on disks truly expanded games” with the announcement of two “massive” expansions for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt…
Hearts of Stone will take Geralt on an all-new, 10-hour-plus adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt, where he’ll try to complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed.
Blood and Wine is a 20-hour-plus tale that will introduce the all-new in-game region of Toussaint, will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.
As you can see, when CD Projekt Red says massive, they mean massive. But massive takes time. The developer plans to release Hearts of Stone in October while Blood and Wine will be available sometime in early 2016. CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski believes it’ll be worth. He said, “Both our expansions offer more hours of gameplay than quite a few standalone games out there.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 24.

Insert Quarter: Broken Games Are Still Broken
Insert Quarter is our showcase for some of the best and most interesting writing about video games on the Internet.
Yes, we’re still talking about games that were shipped to stores broken and still haven’t been fixed after nearly half-a-dozen patches apiece. In light of all the problems that Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Halo: The Master Chief Collection has caused for Ubisoft and Microsoft, respectively, Joystiq’s Richard Mitchell looked at what companies are trying to do to prevent this from happening in the future. And the answer seems to be… “not much.”
Sony will gladly take your $60 to pre-purchase Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End through the PlayStation Store, and that’s because they’ve added a disclaimer stating they don’t have to refund your money if it gets canceled. But on the other hand, CD Projekt delayed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt when it became obvious that they wouldn’t be able to ship the game in February as originally planned. Even though the average gamer now expects the games they purchase to be patched many times over:
What’s really alarming, however, is that this process is standard practice now. Not only do we expect games to have problems at launch, but we tolerate it. We shrug our shoulders, saying “that’s just the way it is,” while developers and publishers take advantage of one of the most passionate audiences in existence.
That’s unacceptable.

CD Projekt moves The Witcher 3’s release to May 19, 2015
According to CD Projekt, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the “most important” game they’ve ever created. Naturally, such a complicated endeavor can quickly spin out of control, requiring additional effort to get all the pieces in place. And it looks like that’s exactly what happened to Geralt’s latest adventure.
After previously pushing the game’s release from “Late 2014” to February 24, 2015, the developer has announced plans to delay The Witcher 3 yet again. The game will now be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 19, 2015.
In a statement to fans, CD Pojekt’s board offered an apology for the delay and said, “We set the release date too hastily.” You can find the full statement after the break. (more…)
