Hey dollface, check out this new Twisted Metal trailer featuring Dollface
Twisted Metal‘s own version of Dr. Doom, Dollface, is the star of the game’s latest trailer. The character’s creepy backstory is intercut with new gameplay footage featuring the Juggernaut, Murder Balls and the Meat Grinder. Enjoy!
Twisted Metal was delayed a few weeks ago and will no longer make its original Fall 2010 release date. But thankfully, David Jaffe recently revealed that Valentine’s Day 2012 is going to be totally twisted.
Twisted Metal aims to make yours a bloody Valentine’s in 2012
David Jaffe, Co-Founder of the Eat Sleep Play development studio has posted a video message on the PlayStation.Blog with a very special message for Twisted Metal fans. In the grindhouse-quality video, Jaffe announces that Twisted Metal is currently being polished and will be released on February 14th, 2012. He claims that it is a “very romantic game” and that “nothing is more romantic than blowing your significant other up with a maniacal, demonic ice cream truck.”
Jaffe also announced that they will release a trailer later this week that features the character Dollface and some new gameplay. There is even a teaser for the trailer at the end of the announcement video. Yes, a teaser for a trailer.
Twisted Metal demo, Uncharted 3 3D trailer included on Priest Blu-ray
Recently, a Resistance 3 demo was featured on the Blu-ray version of Battle: Los Angeles. Now, a 3D trailer for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception will appear on the Unrated 3D Blu-ray version of Priest while the 2D Blu-ray disc will include a demo for Twisted Metal.
Priest is a a movie based off of a series of Korean graphic novels involving vampires, so we’re not sure what that has to do with treasure hunting or car battling. But movie aside, fans will be able to witness Nathan Drake in all his 3D glory for the first time, and Twisted Metal’s demo will let players in on a bit of action behind the wheel – though the demo won’t show any of the new changes that forced the game’s release date delay.
Jaffe explains Twisted Metal delay, says $60 is a “s**t ton” to ask for a game
David Jaffe has never been shy about being vocal, no matter what the topic. In this case, though, it’s about why Twisted Metal got delayed. Jaffe explained that Eat Sleep Play needed more than four to six weeks to finish up the game and give gamers what they deserved. Jaffe’s full explanation is here:
No real way to ship Twisted Metal sooner than the date we are currently shooting for (early 2012)…Sorry for the delay. But the extra months are really needed for polish and we feel we need more than 4-6 weeks (which would see us hitting shelves in your suggested November time frame) of polish/tuning. Also hitting smack dab in mid Nov/Mid Dec is a bad time to release this game (although that was not the reason we delayed AT ALL…we WANTED to be out in Oct)…but the extra time gives us more time to balance weapons, tune vehicle handling, tune the EXP progression for levelling up, etc…I assure you, better to be a LITTLE ANNOYED in the short term versus hate us forever for shipping a game that’s not up to your understandably high expectations. ANY money is a lot to ask from someone for entertainment. 60 bucks is a S**TE TON to ask for so if we are going to charge that, you deserve our best…even if it takes a little longer than we anticipated.
Some examples of stuff we’re not happy with yet- which should allow you and others to really peek behind the scenes at the kind of stuff this kind of extra time will allow:
1. Iron Maiden has a few boss attacks that don’t have strong enough telegraphs (aka- the player isn’t able to clearly, consistently tell when she is going to launch the attack)
2. Iron Maiden has an attack that- even if you can see it coming- the player is not really sure how to avoid it besides using a shield (and we want the player to always have another defensive ability beyond a shield)
3. We are not 100% happy with the XP rank up tuning….we don’t want you to be able to hit the level cap too soon but we also don’t want the level cap to be so hard to reach that only super amazing hard core can reach it
4. There are 1-2 online trophies that will motivate players to take actions that go against the more team oriented aspects of some of the modes and thus will piss off other players so we need to rethink and replace those
5. Pick up placements for split screen local gaming needs more attention
6. Pick up regen timing needs some tuning…So imagine about 250 of those sorts of things. Could we ship without change a single one? Totally and it would still be a really fun game. But it would not be good enough for us. And certainly not for you.
I know there are a lot of people who hate on Jaffe, but I have to admit – I love the man, and I have more respect for him after this decision. While developers aren’t shy about taking our money without any remorse, at least some of them know that they owe it to us to make the best game possible.
Twisted Metal will be shipping in 2012 for the PlayStation 3.

Eat Sleep Play blasts Twisted Metal with a delay
David Jaffe and his cohorts at Eat Sleep Play have some bad news for you: Twisted Metal has been delayed. The development team wants more time for “tuning and polish,” so the game will now be available sometime in the first few months of 2012. Twisted Metal was previously scheduled for an October 4 release date.
Jaffe assured gamers that this delay was the right move and confirmed that attendees of PAX Prime (in Seattle) and Gamescom (in Germany) would get a chance to play Twisted Metal later this month:
It sucks bad when games miss their announced launch dates. We’re gamers too and we know how annoying it is. It’s disappointing and frustrating and it really takes the wind out of your sails if you’re a fan that has been looking forward to playing a title for a long time. Thing is, you gotta trust me when I tell you that – with this extra time for tuning and polish – the game is going to be so much better than it already is. And if you played Twisted Metal and liked it at E3 or Comic-Con, or if you get to play it (and you enjoy it) at one of the August shows, just imagine how much more fun the final game will be with some extra time, polish, and love.
He even quoted Shigeru Miyamoto’s oft-cited saying in regards to the delay: “A late game is only late until it ships. A bad game is bad until the end of time.” We’ll see, Jaffe, we’ll see.
Sony’s E3 2011 showcase to include at least four surprises
Sony has launched their official E3 2011 website with the tagline “It Just Keeps Getting Better.” While most people expect Sony to be in damage control mode at this year’s expo, the console-maker does have a pretty stellar lineup of stuff planned for the big show:
- The Next Generation Portable (NGP)
- Infamous 2 (PS3)
- Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (PS3)
- Resistance 3
- Twisted Metal (PS3)
- Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (PS3)
Sony also plans to surprise gamers with at least four additional announcements. We can only speculate what they might be but the publisher has plenty of other games in the pipeline including the recently announced Starhawk, The Last Guardian, the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection and Sly 4.
It could be all of them. It could be none of them. We’ll find out for sure on Monday, June 6.
Extended Twisted Metal trailer released, Axel’s wheels available for pre-order
If the last trailer wasn’t enough to get the blood pumping, here’s an extended clip showing the disturbing tales and visceral car combat for the upcoming Twisted Metal reboot. In addition, you can snag the iconic vehicle of former tournament competitor, Axel, when you pre-order at participating retailers. Twisted Metal relaunches on PlayStation 3 on October 8.
Twisted Metal gets October 4 release date, new trailer
GameTrailers TV has unveiled a world premiere trailer for Twisted Metal and in addition to all of the explosions, gunfire and general mayhem, it also includes a release date. It looks like David Jaffe’s reboot of the classic car combat franchise will be released for the PS3 on October 4th.
There was previously some confusion over whether Twisted Metal would be released in the Spring or the Fall, so let’s hear it for Sony for finally picking a real release date for the game.
