The PAXpocalypse List: The Best of PAX East 2016

paxpocalypse-east-header

Believe it or not, we’re not living in a post-apocalyptic hellscape (depending on your political affiliation, insert your own Trump/Hillary joke here). But you’d never know it if all you had to go by was the 2016 PAX East show floor, which was overrun by dozens of titles that took place after the collapse of society… and a lot of them were pretty good.

But what if some disaster did befall the world and force PAX East attendees to forever wander the halls of the Boston Convention and Exhibition, feasting on whatever mac and cheese bowls or turkey legs they may find? That’s where Warp Zoned’s PAXpocalypse List comes in, because these are the games we’d keep playing if we could never venture outside again… (more…)

Pre-production on The Last of Us 2 will begin after release of Uncharted 4 DLC

thelastofus-logoIt’s no secret that Naughty Dog wants to make a sequel to The Last of Us, but development on The Last of Us 2 was put on the back burner as the studio completed their next adventure with Nathan Drake. But now that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is finished, Naughty Dog is ready to start pre-production work on a sequel to Joel and Ellie’s cross-country trek. But first, the team will have to complete work on Uncharted 4’s single-player downloadable content.

Naughty Dog’s Creative Director, Neil Druckmann, told GamesRadar about the studio’s current timetable earlier today:

“Before my partner, Bruce [Straley] and I, my directing partner, came on to Uncharted 4 we were working on prototypes for different ideas within The Last of Us universe,” says Druckmann. He also teases that “without going into specific genres [there were] ideas outside the The Last of Us,” as well.

However, according to Druckmann, “all those things were left on hold when we had to come onto Uncharted 4 to direct the project.” Which obviously leaves the question: when will he and Bruce get back to thinking about clickers? “Our next focus is the single player [Uncharted 4] DLC and then, once we have enough resources, resurrect all those prototypes; see where we’re at, see where the teams at, what they’re excited for and go from there.”

Because of the nature of prototypes, it’s important to remember that Druckmann and his team might never give the green light to The Last of Us 2. And as he eludes to above, the developer could move on to a brand new intellectual property after the completion of Uncharted 4’s DLC. Whatever happens, I’m sure we’re all eager to find out what Naughty Dog is up to next.

No more delays… development is officially complete on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

uncharted4-header

It took a little longer than expected, but Naughty Dog announced this weekend that development on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is complete (or “gone gold” as they say):

Since the beginning, Naughty Dog has referred to Uncharted 4 as the “final game” starring Nathan Drake, which has caused many people to wonder if this is the end for the roguish adventurer. But like superhero comics, death is rarely final in video games.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was originally expected to launch for the PS4 last Fall, before being pushed back to March 18, then April 26, and now finally to May 10.

Uncharted 4 gets delayed two more weeks to May 10

uncharted4-header

Uh oh, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has been delayed again. According to the PlayStation Blog, Nathan Drake’s next adventure won’t be available for the PS4 until May 10, 2016.

This is the latest in a string of delays for the game, which was originally expected to launch in Fall 2015, before slipping to March 18, and then April 26. But this latest delay doesn’t appear to be a development snafu, but rather because Sony wants to have a worldwide release date for the highly anticipated title:

In an effort to meet the considerable worldwide demand, and to ensure that all gamers worldwide have the opportunity to play the game on day one, we have chosen to postpone the launch of the game by two weeks to allow for extra manufacturing time.

Therefore, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has a new worldwide release date of May 10, 2016.

And in case you missed it, Naughty Dog unveiled a new Story Trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End just a few days ago.

Latest trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End reveals more story

If you’re trying to steer clear of any spoilers, be sure not to watch the latest trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. It doesn’t really give away much that you haven’t already gleaned, but avoid it if you don’t want to know anything at all. I’ll admit: I teared up. I don’t want Nathan Drake’s story to come to an end, in any way.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be available April 26, 2016 for the PlayStation 4.

A Day-By-Day Guide to All of 2016’s New Video Games (April – September)

2016videogames-header

The Spring and Summer months are currently less dense with new releases than the first three months of the year, but that should change fairly soon, especially since publishers have staked a claim to every week from the beginning of April to the end of June with at least one big new release dropping every seven days.

Are you ready? Because here… we… go… (more…)

Commemorate final game in the series with this Limited Edition Uncharted 4 PS4 Bundle

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be out on April 26th, and Sony just announced a gorgeous 500 GB Limited Edition Uncharted 4 PlayStation 4 Bundle via the PlayStation Blog. It’s gray blue with an image of Drake silk-screened onto it, and comes with a matching DualShock 4 and, surprisingly, a physical copy of the game. It will have the phrase engraved in Drake’s ring – “Sic Parvis Magna,” which means “Greatness from Small Beginnings” – in gold on it. If you pre-order the bundle, you will also get “a voucher for an Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Outfit, Golden Weapon Skin, and Uncharted Points to use in Multiplayer Mode.”

If you already have a PlayStation 4, fear not – the special DualShock 4 will be available in early March, and they’ll also be releasing a limited edition gray blue wireless headset as well, which will also have “Sic Parvis Magna” on it in gold.

They’ve announced prices for everything as well. The PlayStation 4 will be $399.99, the controller will be $64.99, and the headset will be $99.99. Pre-orders started yesterday.

It’s hard to not get choked up watching that video and hearing those familiar voices say, “One last time?” I’m going to miss Drake and Sully so much! Get in on the action on April 26th.
