Ubisoft delays Gods & Monsters, Rainbow Six: Quarantine, and Watch Dogs Legion
Ubisoft had previously announced plans to release storybook adventure Gods & Monsters, co-op shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Quarantine, and the massive Watch Dogs Legion during the first three months of 2020, but that packed release schedule underwent a shakeup this afternoon.
After disappointing sales of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, the publisher decided today to devote more development time to all three titles. Each one will now be released sometime during Ubisoft’s next fiscal year, which falls between April 1st of 2020 and March 31st of 2021.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot released this statement about the delay:
In this overall context, we have decided to postpone the releases of Gods & Monsters, Rainbow Six: Quarantine, and Watch Dogs Legion until [April 1, 2020 – March 31, 2021]. While each of these games already has a strong identity and high potential, we want our teams to have more development time to ensure that their respective innovations are perfectly implemented so as to deliver optimal experiences for players.
Ubisoft also said that they plan to release two additional “AAA” games during their next fiscal year, though the titles went unnamed. We know that the company is currently hard at work on Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Skull & Bones, but neither has a confirmed release date as of right now.
Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds receives four nominations in Game Critics Awards’s Best of E3 2019 Awards
The Game Critics Awards‘s judging panel, which has expanded to 64 publications this year, has announced the nominees for the Best of E3 2019 Awards.
This year, Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds lead all games with a total of four nominations, including one for “Best of Show.” The RPG will be competing against Gearbox’s Borderlands 3, id Software’s Doom Eternal, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake, Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs Legion for the big prize.
A quartet of other games also seemed to strike a chord with panelists, and also receiving three nominations apiece were Remedy’s Control (“Best Original Game,” “Best PC Game,” “Best Action/Adventure Game”), Bithell Games’s John Wick Hex (“Best Original Game,” “Best Strategy Game,” “Best Independent Game”), Nintendo’s Luigi’s Mansion 3 (“Best Console Game,” “Best Action/Adventure Game,” “Best Family/Social Game”), and MachineGames’s Wolfenstein: Youngblood (“Best PC Game,” “Best Action Game,” “Best Online Multiplayer”).
The complete list of nominees for the Best of E3 2019 Awards can be found after the break, and you can learn all about the winners beginning tomorrow, June 27. (more…)
Ubisoft will unveil Watch Dogs Legion at E3 2019
Thanks to a new tweet on the official Watch Dogs Twitter account, we now know that Ubisoft will unveil the third game in the franchise at the E3 Expo next week. Featuring the tagline, “God Save the NPCs,” it’s a safe bet that Watch Dogs Legion will be taking the franchise to London.
This mini-announcement jibes with a recent report from Kotaku about Watch Dogs Legion. According to Jason Schreier, the game’s tagline is quite literal, as players will be able to take control of any character they find on the streets of London:
Watch Dogs Legion is set in London, as we confirmed a while ago, and here’s the really interesting gimmick: You can play as any NPC you recruit in the game. From the product description:
“Play as anyone, Every individual you meet in the open world, has a full set of animations, voice over, character traits and visuals that are generated and guided by gameplay systems.”
I’ve heard the same, and also that you’ll see different things at different points in the game depending which NPC you’re playing as.
We’ll learn more about Watch Dogs Legion during Ubisoft’s E3 2019 Press Conference on Monday, June 10.
